Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi...Again. Well I started to do my front brakes and pads on my Xantia (W reg 2l HDI) and guess what! The bloody retaining pin just will not budge....at all. Any advice would be much appreciated as this is really making a mess of my weekend. Thanks.

This is a three Weetabix job :wink:

Judiciously soak the ends of the in in Plus Gas (not WD40 - it's rubbish for this work) and then use a properly sized pin punch and a good sized engineers hammer. A toffee hammer won't do. You need a big 'un.

The using good blows the pin will come out. The secret is in using a correctly sized pin punch...

Hi
Can anyone help on here i have just bought a citroen c5 estate on an 04 plate.
the problem being the rear window does not open and the rear wiper is not working either!
i have checked the fuses and also taking off boot panel to check plugs/cables and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong.

Any help would be great and thanks in advance.

Right, the old girl is doing me proud at the mo....

Drove up from Plymouth to Nottingham yesterday with three of us on it and my foot down. Got back on £40 which works out as 44 mpg which I'm happy with. (I do have a lead foot!)

She rides great, stops well, the engine is sweet (except a rattling bottom pully) and the performance is great....

I've just bought a late 2004 UK-spec. Xsara Picasso Excl. and now need to register it in France. This will entail getting headlamps that dip in the correct direction for here. Some cars' headlamps can be adjusted to dip either way - does anyone know if this applies to the Piccy?

Pretty sure you will need to change the lights for LHD ones - they're simple old school incandescent jobbies - and not all that great at that as they use H4 bulbs, so the dip goes off when you go to main :roll:

Back again...

1995 ZX 1.9D, now on 136K. Since going into partnership with the car at 98K, I've been changing the oil every 4500 miles using Shell Helix 15W/40 and Purflex filters.

Recently, there was a post - which I now can't find - where someone said they change their oil every 3000 miles. This got me thinking (always a dangerous moment)...

How things have changed, before the modern diesel era I used to run quite a few cars fitted with Perkins 4/108 engines, you had to change the oil every 2,000 miles or when you unscrewed the drain plug nothing happened, I used to put a pint of diesel in the oil and run the engine to get it thin enough to come out!

Afternoon fellow Citroenites,
the xant needs a new ball joint on the passenger side (advisory on mot), nosing through seems a std ball joints about a tenner and lemforder ones are about £17 ish, (ebay) Are the Lemforder ones worth the extra over the standard in terms of lasting??
dont mind paying the extra if its going to outlast a generic one!...

hi all sometimes when i go to start car all i can hear is a click from the starter it could take maybe 3 or 4 turn of key before it turns i just guess it could be earth wire or a wire going to starter any ideas thanks sean also what do i need to take off to acess the starter its xsara dw8,

Ha nothing exciting here..........

On long trips out I find my left leg gets tired and needs to stretch but can not due to the foot rest. I have removed the pad from behind the carpet and can now stretch my leg oh joy!!

my citroen c3, loss of power while driving then cuts out, engine management light comes on, car will restart a few minutes later and drive ok then cut out again and restart, error code P0608 showing
no problems starting car and will sit and idle on driveway without any cutting out, only seems to lose power and cut out while driving

thanks for the advice, i been advised by a garage that the ECU is faulty and needs a new one, big money, but it seems to me that the ecu is doing its job and entering its backup mode overriding a faulty sensor

Are the unions used on the 2 CV the same as on the Xantia. They appear to me to be the same.

3.5mm union M8 x1.25 & 4.5mm M9 x1.25

I've just had a quick look at this 2005 C4 1.6 petrol, well.......you can hear it before you see the thing! There is a high-pitched sound from inside the car that drives you nutty within a minute. I thought at first the 'lights on' buzzer was stuck, but it isn't that. Tried everything electrical, car starts and stops normally, no difference when...

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie to this forum (suggested by a mate) and I have a question about my dpf. I own a Xsara picasso 1.6 hdi 110 bhp 2006 reg exclusive. It's got a dpf which I want to have removed and remapped ecu. It's done 78,000 miles but the limp mode light hasn't come on yet so I want to get the job done pretty soon.

Is the large tray that sits under the engine necessary?

Mines come away at the back and the bolts that hold it on have rusted solid and many have come away so I've just removed the whole thing. No more oil trap/tool thief/nut and bolt hider.

It won't cause any problems?

Will make the oil change much easier!!!!

Can anybody help me please.
I am trying to repair my daughters car. It has poor acceleration. I think limp mode.
It is a 02 registered Citroen C5 HDI
The engine management light is not on when running.
I have been useing a lexia diagnostic tool.
It indicates 3 problem areas.
1. Instrument panel fault
2. Radio post- equipment fault
3. Suspension...

Today has been one of those rare days when I've driven all three of mine back-to-back.

Normally, only Rattiva is used reglarly and the other two rest. The Activa has been resting for some weeks...

So, three Xantias, they all look very similar, especially Rattiva and New V6 both being Mauritius Blue Exclusives they look identical from a distance....

OK Jim, ref recent correspondence we've had, you said my high tick rate could be due to a Hydractive fault.

Currently, I'm stuck in hard on the Xantia (sounds a bit rude that, says the missus) and the back end drops quickly once the engine stops. Regulator ticks about every 5/6 seconds.

Could this be an internal leak? What do I need to look...

Thanks for the handy tips, Mandrake! Though now I'm loath to take down the damn thing again, it will have to wait. Anyway, before I refitted the exhaust and everything else that's in the way, I checked leakage with a clear hose to the valve's return line. Not a single drop in soft or hard (engine running, fuse F34 removed) mode. I wish I had done...

Removing the front struts off my Xantia and realised that my socket set does not go high enough to remove the drive shaft nuts.

Done a search and looks as though its a 35mm, just wanted to get confirmation that its correct, before I order one of these

Right today I pulled up in Wigan and turned the car off for about 5 mins, when I got back in to move it, it wouldnt go, basically when you turn the key to position 1 the battery light comes on as usual,but nothing in position 2 ie no glow plug lights, I have no gauges, fuel or temp, the radio works clock etc, the car will even turn over in...

Thanks guys I will check the above, it wasnt an intermittant problem, it never happened before, as I say, its typical of a fuse blowing, does anyone know which fuse or relay is for that pos 2 on the ignition switch (if there is one?).

The igintion switch/barrel looks a bit of a PITA to get out, I did get it most of the way out yesterday, there...

Im trying to get a bit of info as to why a 1.9TD might not be starting. Its a 1996 estate TD with Bosch pump and 108K miles.

It was running fine until a few days ago when it was difficult to start, once it did start it would cut out even at higher revs but would always restart. Now it wont start at all. The owner said the dashboard lights were...

Hi all,
Changed a front fog light on my xantia monday, when i jacked car up to remove front wheel for easier access to wheel arch liner and bumper bolts i noticed that some water leaked out from somewhere, pretty sure it was coolant, i reckon there was about a pint fell out from somewhere!! finished changing fog light, put front bumper back on...

Thanks for the replies chaps! will just have to keep an eye on it for now, it just seemed strange that leak disappeared just as quick as it appeared, dont think i had disturbed anything coz i,d only got as far as taking front wheel off when i noticed leak!!!

When I was doing my suspension work on the Xantia I noticed that the drivers side back arm bearing is failing.

I've done a couple of BX back arm bearings so it shouldn't be a problem to do. On the net I've found a kit from AEP for around £30

Is this an ok part for a good price?

The bearings are POA on GSF at the moment, so I bought the Xantia kit from AEP for convenience. The old bolts and stepped seats from the other side were fine so I kept them and I ended up with an extra spacer tube because the Citroen dealer cocked up the order.

The N/S one clicked intermittently for about a year before I worked out what it was...

Had a look today and only code is for a glow plug, reset fault and it came back on as soon as engine was started. Not causing starting problems so won't worry for now. May try known good MAF sensor to see if problem goes.

hi ihave an 1.8 16v xantia 1996. ive a starting problem, it does not happen all the time but when i turn the key its like i have a flat or low battery the starter motor hardly turns the engine. I ve had the problem before, so i checked all the earths i could find cleaned them and still the same, i solved the problem with a jump lead from battery...

Hi Im new to this board.

Have got a serious issue with my 1.4 2001 Xsara It cuts out for no apparent reason. It will start and run for anything up to 10 mins then cut out... and wont restart for ten minutes. then the same thing happens!

I have had it connected to a computer and no faults or errors are showing up! Its as if the car is out of fuel...

Fuel cut of switch is inside engine bay, if i remember correctly left hand side with a red cap. I had one of these cars for several years and never encountered nor heard of any such problem, check that connections on the fuel filter are secure (in front of right hand rear road wheel) and that these pipes are not split or damaged this was a common...

There's not that much that will stop them - despite ours needing continuous attention it only stopped once when the LP fuel pump went. If it's got a light coloured dashboard make sure you take sunglasses -the reflection in the screen is terrible, verging on dangerous!

If you have not seen this car, then give the sills under the front doors a good...

At starting from cold the suspension does not rise at all, on driving there is considerable bounce and the steering is a bit heavy with under performing brakes. Car has been little used for over a year. As its all three thought it might be a weak pump ?

Hi all. I have a W reg turbo diesel Xantia. I recently had to replace the drivers door so disconnected the negative terminal, changed the door, replaced the wiring and window actuator (Nightmare). Excellent :-D The dead give-away was the gauges going haywire. They always do that on a MK2 when battery volts are very low and in extreme cases the tacho needle can get stuck, buried in the red-line...

Yes, they do have an immobiliser. It's RF activated via a coded chip in the key blade...

So I have the usual corrosion issue and now have new bolts to replace the snappage bolts. I was wondering what the thoughts were on cutting the bolt head off to ease the stretch, slide the caliper off then work the bolts out while they then have no tension.

Seems a plan since I already have the new bolts waiting.

Any probs with this you think?

If so what type, how mcu and where did you get them from.

One thing that is annoying me on the Picasso is the wind noise when window open.
Also, i am a smoker, i know i should give it up, lol, I must admit since owning the Picasso i smoke less as it.s almost impossible to flick ash out of the window when travelling.

I have a 50litre 2hp SIP compressor which has a leak in the regulator area - I undid the joints and resealed using ptfe tape but accidently overtighted and cracked the union :x

What is the best way to join unions to minimise leakage - is it ptfe or another jointing compound?

Will order a new regulator on fleabay today.
