Making a pressure gauge

Making a pressure gauge
Hi all, I'm making a pressure regulator tester and am after a few pointers on how to attach the pipe to the gauge, I've got a friend who's a welder. I've got plenty of Citroen pipe which have fittings on the end to screw into the pressure regulator. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'd imagine somewhere like Pirtek could make an adaptor up easily enough.
Re: Making a pressure gauge
If you know someone who has a lathe or a pillar drill you could make up something to do that in an afternoon. Just need to find out what the thread size is on the Citroen fitting and off you go.
Short piece of bar stock, drill all the way through, drill and tap 1/4" BSP thread in one side and the Citroen fitting size on the reg on the other.

Re: Making a pressure gauge
Could I just braze the pipe onto the bottom of the gauge?

no reason why not, but obviously remove the fitting from the gauge beforehandcc101 wrote:Could I just braze the pipe onto the bottom of the gauge?

Re: Making a pressure gauge
That's a glycerine damped gauge with a rubber seal visible in the photo. You need a mechanical joint onto it, brazing will damage it.

Re: Making a pressure gauge
If you go to your local plumbing supplier you will probably be able to get a fitting to screw on which will accommodate a small copper pipe, you could then solder a hydraulic pipe to it.

Nice! Did you have the pipe made up? I would have been wary of brazing it. I'd imagine it would make a loud bang if the joint failed.

I think Jim's are brazed.
Re: Making a pressure gauge
I had a local hydraulic specialist make it up for me with industrial fittings the rubber hose is good for up to 400 bar, charged me 15 quid to make it up!
