Replacing Front wheel Bearing

Post by panda666uk »

My Wife's MK3 Dispatch failed its MOT on a front Wheel bearing, I've ordered a new bearing cause I'm not paying £200 for the garage to do it ! Is there a cheapish bearing removal kit out there which I can buy to do the job myself ?

Thanks

Have you got access to a bearing press?

Ooo one of those jobs then !, No but could ask the local Citroen specialist who are always helpful, I presume the whole strut needs to come out then ?

Thanks

I know when my rear wheel bearing went the guy i got to do it had a nightmare and it took 2 of them and a press to remove it, it was shot to bits and only started making a noise a few days before!

Also £200 seems a bit excessive.

Yeah £200 is steep went to two garages as well . Got the bearing for £46 from GSF just need to fit it ! Even if I take the strut out and take it somewhere where they'll charge 30mins labour to take the old one out and put the new one in for me is better than £200.

You need only remove the hub carrier, leaving the driveshaft, caliper/carrier, wishbone and strut in situ.

if it has been in for the MOT and failed you only have 10 working days ( not including weekends and bank hol's ) to get back for a free re/test, regardless of how much is left on the old MOT

These days, when you take your car in for an MoT IF there is an old one still "valid" it IS cancelled, you have a car without an MoT at the moment.

Checked a few sites and the old valid MOT still covers me. Also I'll have it done with in the 10 working days anyway.

Please only post the facts, I work at an mot station and the old cert still stands. Good luck fixing.

At my last MoT, this is what I was told (as I was 2 months early to match up to the tax date )....sorry but as I was told this by the tester, I assumed like you, he knew what he was talking about.
His main point was that as it has to all be recorded to the DVLA....etc etc..

It was the tester at my place that said the current cert was void if a new fail was issued. I was unsure so contacted vosa who said old one still stands.
