Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi lads
swapped ecu and bsi and now lexia cant access any of the ecus thanks to citronut i have tracked down the vin and rpo for the ecu combo but it just wont communicate :grr: its driving me nuts the rear wiper wont work the rear windows wont work and a few other bits aswell its like as if half of the loom is cut off

sorry just copped post all is working perfect you have to replace the ignition lead as well. turned out the battery fuse on the bsi was blown that's why it wouldn't connect to lexia.

Just planning a heater matrix replacement on my 1995 TD SX and will be changing all of the dash bulbs.

I know they are 1.2w 286 bulbs but there are posts which say 'capless' ie just the bulb itself and other posts which say that Mk1 xantia bulbs are hard soldered into their base so you need 286T bulbs ie inclusive of the base.

Anyone know what...

The heater panel on the S2 Xantia has a pair of capped bulbs, with the caps being about half the length of the removable caps used by the other dashboard lights. Replacing these bulbs was done by dismounting the heater control, and then popping off the top cover (but I cannot remember details, as it was a couple of years ago when I had to do this).

I am getting ready to dump the green shell which will free up space for me to bring the Activa S1 donor into position.

Over time I will still like to keep moving it about every now and again, to do this I will need/like to keep it high on the suspension.

So the question is....How/What can I use to keep it up off the deck ?

The bit about hitch hiking really chimed with me. I can't comment on the 50s and 60s, but it was still alive in the 80s. I hadn't thought about it before, but I realise now that it's dead now. I can't remember the last time I picked up a hitcher.
Shame really, it used to be a very civilised way of getting from A to B, whether you were the driver...

Just giving my Xantia some appreciation here!

Low cost reliable steed and despite a minor mishap with a ball joint and a bust gear linkage has been pretty good to me. I've treated it to lots of new bits (full exhaust, suspension pipes, spheres, timing belt etc) as a prevention is better than cure type of thing and it has so far been A1.

Very odd if i sit idle the sounds gone.
When i drive its like something is catching on the wheel.

Had two tyres changed on the passenger side but i seem to remember one of the alloys had then balance weights on the inside on one of them.

Feeling the front wheel and the gap between that and the bit thats on teh car is very little..

Have just got my 1.9td R reg xantia thru it's mot and the radiator has now started leaking badly and draining in 30mins or so .
So i bought some K-seal and put it in and ran the car for a while .The leak seemed to have stopped , but upon returning to it an hour later it is dripping from two places (previously only 1 place).

Don't use those normal little halogen bulbs you get in supermarkets.
They melt the holder and cause a smoky look to the whole headlamp.

I have a fluid leak at the rear of my C5 from a unit that is between the 2 rear wheels midway between them it has three pipes going into it and a bleed nipple, I think this bleed nipple is for depressurising, I do not think the leak is from this unit more like something is leaking down on to it. Dropped my C5 in to my friend Mr. Woods for a service. He offered to put it on his rolling road to check the output and seeing as this was the car's first service since I acquired her last year, I thought why not?
The good news is that even after 200,000 kilometres the engine was putting out 161 bhp and about 245 FtLb of torque . The bad news was...

Fuel economy has improved too. The trip computer was giving me a respectable 5.8 l/100 km (48.7 mpg). Post remap, it's reading 5.2 l/100 km (54.32).
I know that the trip computer is not that accurate, but it does give a reasonable idea of my fuel economy.
A few days on and the car is just so much more driveable. I don't have to down-shift to...

I have a 2.2 hdi C5 that has developed some starting problems. The engine turns over and over and over making no attempt at starting, and then at the last minute fires up.
I changed the diesel filter and it seemed to cure the problem but a few hours later the same problem exists! It does appear as if there maybe there isn't enough diesel getting...

I would get it on Lexia or something that can read live data & see what the fuel pressure is on cranking, should be at least 110 bar. Also check you can see a good engine RPM on cranking.

I cleaned and bled the brakes for the impending MOT retest but noticed during trying to bed the brake pads in again, that the n/s front will lock up under heavy braking. I have ABS and that shouldn't happen.. the ABS light goes out as normal on startup and doesn't reappear.. any ideas?

It could well be like many modern gear knobs. They are pushed onto a splined shaft. They just need to be pulled off, but beware, if you get hold of it and lift as hard as you can, the natural trajectory will be somewhere around your forehead!
The old screw on ones with a locking nut underneath seem to be long gone.

Hi, i have a problem with leaking rear shock on my xantia. The oil is filling the rubber sleeve that goes on the shock, and overflowing form the plastic black pipe underneath the car. First i changed the rubber seal that goes around the piston on the shock, for secondhand one that didn't leak. Had no luck. Than i got whole different shock also...

Hope you're enjoying the long weekend!
Just discovered while investigating a clunking noise from the rear of my C5 that the bump stops on both sides are missing. Judging by the mud and dirt they've been gone some time...!!!
Looking on service citroen the part number I think is 5166 76

Hi all, I have a Citroen Xsara 2.0hdi (Y reg )but last week the temperature gauge stopped working but I have done 400 miles since it packed up and no problems.

Just an update on the situation,

Replaced the cooling fan as the old one was siezed and blew the 50amp fuse, this is working now as when i removed the temperature sensor plug it came on full power.

I replaced the temperature sensor and left the car running but it got very hot but the fan didn't start up.?????????? Any ideas

Hard mode lock and fast Pump Tick rate (every 5-7 secs for 10-15 secs)

Well, with Jim's assistance (well he did it :) ) I have the suspension mod fitted, pump still ticks fast, stuck in hard mode, valves click after 30 secs (ish)

Xantia TD SX 95 reg....

Hi ... this car has had the problem of the rear end dropping almost immediately after turning the engine off. ALL six of the spheres have been changed recently and still she drops down. As i understand it this is not right so what else should i be looking at as a starter? Apart from this the ride is ok but is it fixable?

Could possibly be the doseur, it's worth checking that return line as well.

You can check all of the returns easily at the LHM tank :)
It won't be the doseur, as the anti-sink valve isolates that (unless both are faulty). With the engine running and the car at normal height there should be no significant flow in the return line(s) from the back...

Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6L HDI Diesel Hatch Back 5Door

Broke Vaccum hose connector on Vaccum pump on side of engine when my hand slipped when working on Fuel filter and snapped it.
Orderd a new vaccum pump as i had problems with brakes.
Now i have damaged connector on vaccum pump hose and i need a replacement female connector.
Hose looks plastic...

I had a new clutch put in recently and have been left with the following problem. 1st gear can be engaged( at a real push) and 2nd gear goes in but does not seem to be fully engaged. I was thinking that air may have got into the slave cylinder but man says push rod never dropped out when he moved it. Has anyone had similar experience or any ideas....

I agree with what you say. I cannot find anything external causing the problem so looks like must be inside. Not sure about the C5 engine and transmissions being similar to mine but I'm sure there are more knowledgeable people on here who do. Thanks for your offer to drop in, would welcome a second opinion from someone and have a look over a C5.

I'm sure some of you have seen the Prestige on ebay.

It was originally listed as an auction with a buy it now price of 99p - which I assumed was obviously a mistake and it would be pointless anyone doing the BIN because it would only end up as a protracted argument escalated to eBay - no-one comes out a winner, so why bother starting it!...

My 2001 citroen c5 2.0hdi seems to struggle when pulling my caravan the oil temp guage starts creeping up to the red,then when im not towing a few days later it flashes up anti pollution fault, then corrects it self a few days later,thought of getting it chipped for more power and torque
Is this a good idea?

Agreed, there should be absolutely no need to chip it. I have exactly the same year car/engine and use it for towing a loaded car trailer (heavier than a caravan) and it's fine, plenty enough grunt, no problems.

You say the oil temp gets high, what does the water temp do? Is the oil level ok? (check it on the dipstick, don't just rely on the...

The back box on the 2.0 8v auto is blowing and has a hole in the casing, no drama.

It looks a bigger bore than my 1.8 8v.

Looking on eBay and they are about £35 but most are listed for activa or 2.1TD though.

When iI fitted a TD rear silencer to a 2.0 it was unpleasantly resonant at light throttle and on over-run. So try to find a petrol box.

Mr auto seems to have some at a similar price.

Hi, I have a C5 VTR PLUS NAV HDI (2010), wiring breaking up inside the gaiter at the tailgate hinge. I dont want to tape it up I want to have a replacement loom, or at least a competent repair. Anyone had this problem before?

Recently a problem has started to annoy me - the rear wiper comes on when it hasn't been directed to. Even opening the rear lid can start it going. If I'm at the boot end, then just pushing the wiper to its rest position stops it and it might then be ok for a week or two. It has been known to come on when the ignition key isn't in the ignition!...

Hi folks. Just been checking Fred's front brake pads. Found horrid LHM leak. It's a rubber to metal pipe on the side of the shock absorber. The splatter has gone all over the wheel arch, wheel, cv.

Can't work out how to post pics from iPad but will try desktop if pics help.

Anyone know what the pipe is please and any advice greatly appreciated....

Well finally got 1 pipe and 1 clip. Citroen gave me €1.50 off as there should be 2. Don't know how they balance the books! Hope to get the pipe for other side next week.

Anyway...pipe fitted. Lovely to have an easy job.

The old girl is making a bizzare noise. on idle, normally after a cold start, theres a rattle that sounds like its coming from behind the dash. lightly pressing the clutch (not engaging it) stops the noise. release the pedal and it comes back #-o

car drives perfectly fine otherwise, clutch feel is exactly the same as it was when i bought the...

Hi, you ALL know how much I love my Xantia ('s). But I might need to sell her. I want to know how well they hold their value these days? I paid £415 for mine, it's a silver V reg HDi 110 Exclsuive, and it's a good car. It a beasty workhorse. But it does need droplinks, new spheres, bottom arm, and very likely new sills to pass the MOT in December,...

My berlingo 1.9d 2004 battery keeps going flat, tried another battery and that went flat. The battery light come on when i 1st put the ignition on, but is not coming on when the car is running so i am assuming its not the alternator.

Is this sorted? If not try this. Sit in the van with the key out of ignition switch and listen. Sometimes the intermittent rear wiper goes faulty. You might hear an intermittent click of the wiper powering up (relay). Remove the rear door panels and disconnect the connector to the motors and check again.

The rev counter has always been intermittent and usually comes back to life during a long enough journey, likewise the a/c. I had it re-gassed last month and it's been working fine but today it didn't come on despite the fans kicking in as they should when you press the air con button.

Sometimes it seems that the a/c springs into life at the same...

I am putting a Xantia turbo diesel engine into a C15D van but I need to understand the principles of operating to make the clutch bracket. It's a pull type with the integral clutch release bearing.

Looking at the gearbox from the front of the van or car, does the lever on the pivot shaft need to move forward (away from the gearbox) or backwards...

I have a T reg Xantia 2.0HDi. I am getting a vibration (like a wheel vibration which it isn't, had them done) above 50 mph when I back off the accelerator. I have noticed in the Xant that I occasionally hear a buzzing relay down in the passenger footwell area? Random buzzes etc from time to time, especially after a recent start. Any suggestions as to what it might be?
