Hi,
2002 citroen c5 2.2 Hdi
the car is working well at the mo except if I hold the foot brake down for 3 or 4 seconds when stationary I get ESP/ASR fault and the brake warning light comes on. Doesn't seem to do it while I'm driving but every time if I'm stationary
I had the sticky handbrake issue (which I hoped was causing this also) so I have recently changed the handbrake cable (what a job that was) and the caliper and that's now fine but this ESP/ASR fault still persists
What do I need to look for, is it likely to be an actual problem with the brakes? Any little tests I can try to work out what's faulty?
thanks in advance
Al

Re: ESR error
You could have a faulty ABS sensor on one of the wheels that is causing an intermittent warning, or the brake switch possibly.
Getting it on a Lexia is you best bet to identify the problem area though.

Re: ESR error
Do you have the Auto box? and if so is it preventing gear selection to 'Drive' or 'Reverse' intermittently? Another member has these symptoms and changed the brake switch (despite it testing as ok) and that solved the problem - but I wouldn't start replacing parts until you have it diagnosed, just another avenue to follow.

Re: ESR error
thanks for the replies. I have a spare brake switch (the 3 brake lights are currently working) so I'll try replacing the other brake switch next to the one that does the lights and see if it's that - I'm suspicious of that as the problem started shortly after I replaced the brake switch when the brake lights were not working, then if that doesn't fix it I'll find someone with a lexia. It's a manual so at least it's not the auto box
