Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

After slagging off the EGS gearbox after a 15m drive , which was rather unfairly presumptious of me .

Having the use of a 1.6 HDI Grand Picasso for a week or so has made it second nature to use , and is an absolute bonus in stop - start traffic .

The gizmos are there for gizmos sakes mostly , and are mostly all duplicated on the steering wheel...

Hi, I recieved the new hp pump from Pleiades, fitting was easy enough, it`s been a nice day, and it`s good to be able to do things again.
Anyway, after ten mins of running it still has`nt preasured up, I primed the intake pipe! So I`m at aloss for the moment.I will try to-morrow with more LHM down the pipe.

Also, the steering has no preasure!...

Odd C5 electrical fault

Hi

I have a very odd fault with a C5 estate 52 reg 2L diesel.

Every time I unlock the doors, open a door or switch the engine on, the rear wiper starts. It stops after a few seconds.

Everything else works ok and it isn't serious, just puzzling.

Can anyone offer a clue as to whats causing this mysterious fault?

Com2K is the indicator / wiper switch assembly. The do fail more often than people would like although to be fair they are a lot better than the first (year 2000 ish) few ones when they switched to muliplexing, they will have all been changed a few times though.

Fluid Compatibility - Dee Rear Gaiter

I've a pair of new rear gaiters for saloon; long since lost their bags and sticky labels. My Dee has leaky gaiters and is a red fluid car.

Only relevant markings on these pieces, seem to be a dab of white paint.

Does this help tell if they are they green or red fluid gaiters?

I am pretty sure that at the time of D series switch over from veg to mineral fluid, white coded seals were supplied to be compatible with either. Long time ago though!

Hi all, I replaced the ar link and the horrid rattle has gone. Now I'm getting a similar sounding rattle at slow, near full lock driving over pot holes. We're talking car park speeds.
I feel its a track rod but can't replicate it at all. Could be a lower ball joint.
Anyway, this being an early car it has the different anti roll links. I wondered...

That is the question........what to look for and any warnings.

Just looked at a Xsara hatchback 1.6 petrol automatic, looks and runs perfectly, 2001 model. This is for my wife who needs an auto car, also has leather interior so she is already sold on it.

We are in France so system is slightly different and dealer is working from a locked...

Finally took 'er indoors to drive the car and it failed the test, did get her outdoors for a while though.

When I drove it last week a bit of a thump from 2 to 3 but I was willing to let it go as it was first change from cold so maybe ok. When my wife drove went thump on the return journey, so warmed up. So that was that, could just be low fluid...

i dont run a bead of weld all the way round the outter race just two shotr runs of mig at opposite sides, this is usualy enough to not only heat the race up but also gives you something to drift it out by,

the only thing you dont get in the overhall kit's is the shim washers, there is usualy one or at least the remains of one in each arm,...

Last few days I noticed a weird occurrence, no brakes. I press on brake pedal and the car just keeps on going. Only happened a few times and all those times just when I haven't been driving it too long, in the mornings. Any ideas why this happened? Cheers!

That'll be down to rear corners but if they are flat or ruptured than that may well cause the same effect Richard spoke of. Change 'em all, give the brakes a good bleed and all should be good again.

On inspecting the wires I also came across the wires for the CD changer and I traced them back to the head unit and they were connected.I will be taking delivery...

oily residue in header tank

I have a berlingo 800D LX 1.9 Diesel and have noticed an oily residue in the header tank.
The vehicle seems to drive ok with no loss of power and the temperature gauge sits just under half way, could this be a head gaskett issue?
There is no signs of water in the oil and no yellowy sludge on the oil filler cap.

Oil: 80PSI hot/revving

With that difference in pressure, even a pinhole will allow decent flow rapidly. You only need a fine level of corrosion, and ingress of oil will take several days/weeks/months to be seen.

Testing is better done with the cooler off, water gallery pressurised to 100PSI (air) in...

Front Hydractive Electro Valve Fault

Recently got a Lexia and I am showing 3 faults that I can’t shift. :(

One is a permanent fault on the front Hydractive Electro valve. The car is in permanent hard mode. I have done the diode mod and both front and rear valves are showing electrical continuity and a resistance of 4.5 ohms. If you do citrobics, during a rise or fall the rear valve...

Help!!-during a cambelt/tensioner change this morning someone forgot(!) to remove the locking pin in the cam pulley and tried to turn the engine on the starter....result is 5 broken cam followers(rockers).
Has anyone had this situation occur before?-or low spead cam belt break-i'm trying to find out if there is any liklyhood of piston/valve...

Even if any rocker rollers found their way into the sump it's unlikely they would cause a problem as the gauze on the oil pump pick up would prevent them passing. Almost certainly they would just lie harmlessly on the bottom of the sump.

Brakes - Shuddering

Hi All,

I'm going to have at a look at my brakes all round as I'm getting a shuddering when I brake with reasonable pressure.

I changed the front discs and pads summer last year but I intend to clean the usual point where the caliper meets the support bracket and smear it with a little copper grease.

Also check the rear discs for any warping....

From an engineering POV, that still doesn't cut it. It really sounds like a backformation by someone who is either being a selective triumphalist (aka cheerleader) or hasn't seen enough other designs.

Renault dealt with the problem by having the rear brake cables placed in such a manner that ride height left no change to the tension upon them....

Hi guys, clambered under the car yesterday to sort a couple of exhast issues and also to look for the oil leek that the mot flagged up,
lookint from the back of the engine up, (laid under the car, feet poking out the front) there was definiately a leek on the left hand side of the block up the top, the manifold had some oil on it and looks like...

Removing Xsara front inner wing liners

Hi, the Mrs' Xsara is doing funny things with the charging so I want to check the belt tension. As per the haynes manual I've removed wheel/jacked up. But I can't figure out how to remove the plastic liner - it has plastic push studs of some sort, but they won't prise out with a flat blade screwdriver, there's no 'inner' peg to pull first...

Also, buy a trim clip tool - it's sort of like a tack remover. Does a good job.

A little heat adds to recoverability . Maybe try a hairdrier, as we seldom break the clips here in our warmer climate.

Xantia 2000 year model, AL4 Problems

I have a Xantia 2000 year model, 2.0L Petrol with AL4 and have following problems:
1. S and Snow marks flashing at the same time during warning up the engine (shift position is in P). This occurs only sometimes and disappears after restart the engine. So far this error never occurred while the car is moving.

I'm after some advice re. a dilemma I now have with my '95 ZX 1.9D.

Car is low mileage (less than 50k miles), and in immaculate condition with no rust whatsover on the body or underside. The interior is mint as well. In fact, the car is in the same condition as most ZX's would have been when they were less than 2 years old.

and ZX 's are very much under rated,

the only bit i dont like is that orible tourtion bar suspension,

a second hand gear box should be now more that £150 quid and no more than £250 to fit, you might have to add a new clutch into that whilst the box is...

Just another tale of woe or stupidity.

I've just changed the copper washer and plastic seal on the injectors when torquing down the nut, I snapped the stud #-o .

Anybody else done this and how easy is it to remove.

Now the stoplight issue is hopefully sorted :P one other job I want to do is change the gearbox oil.

What do members here recommend and are there any things to be aware of?

The car is a 1994 1.9d 5 speed manual.

i have a 06 dispatch 2.0 hdi ,im having mega problems with the offside sliding door ,the vehicle as central locking and motion controlled locking (taxi) it locks and unlocks no problem but on occasions while driving along the o/s door opens itself :shock: when you stop and slide the door shut it catches no problem and stays closed until it decides...

My lovely 2002 C5 V6 Exclusive auto let me down today for the first time. It suddenly lost power and up popped the AntiPolution Fault and Catalytic Convertor Fault, accompanied by the usual beeps. The car now runs very rough and virtually powerless.

Its a great idea, (could work more often) if your just lifting a few things into the boot and dont require the opening of the full lid, if someone has parked to close and prevented the boot from being open. I find it especially useful if you have dogs, as the window can be opened to let in air, get leads on or whatever while they are still secure....

I just took the nearside front wheel off my Xantia hdi as i can hear a drubbing noise coming from the front. Happens when you knock it out of gear too so i guess wheel releated.

Bearings seem fine but...

Hiya folks. Im think bout changing my xpic 2.0hdi. For something bit newer. Cant decide whether go for c5 tourer or c4 grand pic diesel of course. What are you thoughts on both??

thanks for replies folks, my xpic is the exclusive, dont know if i could live with less lol, the more i look at the 2008+ c5 the more it moves me, little thing (or is it??) like no spare wheel is bugging me with the grand pic.

I am about to change my engine oil on my C5 2.0 HDI can anyone please recommend the best oil for the car,is it better to use a cheaper oil and change every 6000 miles ,or use an expensive oil ( synthetic) and use this oil to the full service period?

I own a Xantia S2 1.8 16v with automatic transmission that has , apparently, immobilizer problems: when you put the key in the immobilizer light starts blinking and the engine doesn't starts. According to my mechanic it's something to do with the ECU since he can't detect it with Lexia. All this was caused probably by me when i plugged and...

Autodata indeed doesn't have the schematics. I went to the local dealer and even it doesn't have it - it appears that my model is extremely rare. FML

I currently live in Romania, i can't send my ECU there since, from what i read on their site, they work exclusively inside UK.
I can't even buy a sh one from Ebay since most sellers there again...

Yes Im one of them, I wanted a PAS feed pipe... about 2 years ago, Im still waiting for a price.

However, The car was soon sorted by myself with another.. so Im not bothered now. But not a good service really. They used to be brilliant, when it was in full swing about 8 years ago.

Citroens that run on bio-ethanol ?

Looking for a car and found an ad. for a Renault 1.6 petrol which said it used Bio-ethanol, here that is 0.90 instead of 1.65 Euros.

I tried finding info for a 2001 Xsara 1.6 petrol but no info on running on Bio-ethanol. It doesn't help that I don't know what the difference is between that and petrol (apart that it comes from plants ?)

Hi folks

Are all C5 diesels fitted with auxilluary heaters, if not how do you know if one is. I have one in my 406 but there is no reference to it in either the handbook or manual.

Are all the C5 seats the same, if not which ones are best?

Nope, the front wings are steel Paul. Not many cars have plastic wings, though they seem a good idea to me.

Are you certain Chris, they seem awfully flimsey to me for steel... plastic wings are GREAT... Press them, lean into them, they bend in and wow, pop back to shape... lol.. Makes much sense really. they are NO and NOTHING to do with...

The concensus on here seems to be that Beru are the best, but on a well-known auction site there are all sorts available; NGK, Bosch, etc.
I will be screwing mine back together as soon as the bits arrive from the UK and at least one GP is u/s so will treat it to a new set. Go for the Beru, or any other favourites out there?

Hello,
I changed my drivers side driveshaft at the weekend, I'm just a little concerned that when I pulled the driveshaft out I didn't lose a drop of gearbox oil! Not even a trickle. I did mean to check the level but the sleet kind of put me off!!! Is it normal to lose no oil? The box isn't notchy, everything selects as it should! But no oil...

Hey up peeps,

I'm having trouble finding the gearbox oil filler/level check bolt? Anyone know which one it is on the manual 2.2 hdi gearbox? I've found the drain plug, and I'm aware I can fill it through the reversing light switch hole but I obviously need to take the level bolt out so I don't overfill it,

Following the drain and refill I can report that the gear change is exactly the same as it was before the change, and because I'm tight I chucked the 75w90 in, I shall report back if it stiffens up, oo-er missus!
