Engine oil

Post by garrydog »

I am about to change my engine oil on my C5 2.0 HDI can anyone please recommend the best oil for the car,is it better to use a cheaper oil and change every 6000 miles ,or use an expensive oil ( synthetic) and use this oil to the full service period?
Thanks.

I usually use Total 5-30 fully synthetic in our 2.0HDI 110.

Yep, 5W-30 is what Citroen spec for the HDi engine, see the link for a fully synth at a decent price.

Changing it regulaly is more important than the cost of the oil. I use the cheapest I can get with the correct specification which I have found to be Morris's semi synthetic which was about £10.00 per 5 litres, the last lot I bought had gone up considerably, I think about £15.00 but hopefully it will go down again.

I must be looking in the wrong place then 'cause when I tried to match the spec of the recommended Total Quartz 9000 it came out at £53 for 5L.
I paid £26 for the Total. (5L)

The spec in the book is API CD/CF and the Morris's equals or betters that.

You can buy Morris oils online via their website, but in common with others, the price has risen further recently.
