I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

The headgasket on my girlfriends Peugeot 206 1.1 is going/has gone. How easy is it to do a headgasket changed on these? Are they a difficult engine to work on? Ive done a few Rover k series engine headgaskets, so should I be able to do the 206 or are they more difficult?

Are there any special tools needed to do the job? Is there any guide, or...

all the TU lumps i have seen with excessive mayo in the coolant has been down to sunk liners,
the usual failure i see is just oil leaking from the front corner cam belt end of the head joint,

if there is oil from the bottom of the head but not up the front of it, then this is definitely gasket failure,
as there is a small triangle section bonded...

Although slightly off topic, it was not that long ago (certainly early 90's I remember) diesel was a fair bit cheaper than petrol.

It should be cheaper too as far as I understand it its easier to produce it in needing less refining, someone correct this point though if I'm wrong.

Today the mechanic I used to work part time with, called up to ask when I was taking away the newer toy (my shiny blue 605). Reckoned he'd finished servicing it.

It turns out he'd backed it into something; the repair will be about $600 - my estimate - and more frustratingly the damage was in one of the most untouched areas.

Possibly ignition too, although its generally not recommended to spray into there unless you 'really' need to.

all, can someone give me a reason why the group 35 coupe is cheaper to insure than a group 25 TD xantia? (coupe is 97 and xant 99)

I have put both cars through the comparison sites, and that is the unbelievable truth. ?

It's that time of the year again :(

Just wondered who would be best for insuring my Xantia? I've just received my comprehensive insurance renewal figure of £352. I've tried the usual comparison sites with nothing better thus far. Admiral came out at £540 :o

What are you guys paying?

I'm 41 - self employed - drive less than 4K a year......

Complete nonsense, if an aftermaket radio is fitted correctly it wont cause any problems although you will loose your radio display on the multifunction screen & the remote controls at the steering wheel without an additional adaptor.
You are right enough though that you would probably run into some problems on models with built in satnav but not...

That coffee should have a standardised measurement of strength on the retail packaging, like caffeine content in mg/kg dry weight or something.

Similarly, liquid forms (as bought in cafés, or iced coffee) should have caffeine in mg/litre. A bit like cigarette strengths.

Then coffee addicts could select best bang for the buck . :twisted:

I have heard similar. The software update will kill the EGR and Vauxhall themselves supply a genuine blanking plate.

However, I've also heard the auto's cannot have that update as they have a different ECU, anyway lets not worry about that (yet)

Washed the car last Tuesday, usual stuff hosepipe and bucket.

Opened the bonnet and gave the engine a quick spray too, not much just a bit to get rid of dust. Obviously I did not have the engine running as we know petrol engines will stop at the mere suggestion of water near the coil pack, a diesel will lovingly take a big drink and bend things....

Upon starting it must of got some of this in with the air, obviously not much or it would hydraulic = bang = bent rod ? = expense.

I was thinking about this a while ago. Do we know what other manufacturers used the PSA group engines (I'd guess mostly XUD and HDi's) in their vehicles ?

I think Ford use the small HDi in their Fiesta ?

Didn't Skoda (or FSO?) use the XUD9 in one of their pickups and possibly early Felicia ?

Would be nice to know what other manufacturers used...

After a years lay up the Activa is (hopefully) going for an MOT tomorrow. :?

Exhaust has been done so I just hope it passes, though after a year of non use I don't hold out much hope if I'm honest.

OK, firstly I realise there are going to be some differences between countries - but what is really sought here, is a Plain English explanation of something.

What I am wondering, is if one wants to lightly use the internet via portable computer (as opposed to a smartphone) pretty much anywhere in an urban environment - what technology is...

Sims have several services that can be assigned to them such as voice, data and blackberry.
So for a dongle sim they just activate the data service.
Another network's sim with data service can be used instead as long as the dongle isn't locked to one network.
Whether it is locked or not is down to the network provider's policy.

I'm looking at a UK donor car to be (rapidly) dissected for spares then shipped as parts. The prospect has MOT but no mention of tax.

If my agent-designate were to buy it, would he/they be able to drive it to the place of dismantling without further costs (fees), or must it be towed?

Would it be smarter to make the bill of sale to myself or...

like in surance is a must so is the MOT, if you aint got a valid MOT your insurance will be vouid,

also i belive they tot up your unpayed fines then come looking for you, then throw the book at you,

In a dilemma as to what to do next. Here goes had a 406 p reg upto feb 09, since i ve had 4 motors and not 1 equalled it. All had good reason for buying and for getting rid of. Bought an 06 punto had it 10 weeks and then got a brand new 09 corsa diesel, had that for 10 months and traded in for an 08 1.8 tdci...

Stick with your C5 search, there are many good ones around, all have a good spec and if you go for either the 2.0HDi 8v in the C5I or the 2.0HDI 16v in the C5II they are generally reliable and return great economy with good performance, especially the 16v.

I looked at 406s a while back, they are nice cars but like you, I didn't want an estate...

In these days of expensive fuels, why is diesel so much more expensive than petrol ? when i had my first diesel a bx, diesel was cheaper roughly 5p a ltr less than petrol, now i am seeing it averagly 7p ltr dearer than petrol???? Yet diesel is less refined than petrol hence why the V5 calls it heavy oil.
I want to do my bit to sticking two fingers...

It's been a genuine 6 month winter here in Scotland. The snow came in Nov and it is still here in the hills and below freezing at night.

Yep,

An interim replacement for the Alfa 147 has been sourced. I hope to pick it up in a few hours. Didn't want an Mi really; just that all the regular 405s are gone or overpriced.

Have to stop buying stuff; run out of fingers and thumbs now. :?

Pics in a day or so - it's really poor weather here and I don't fancy my chances of nice...

Eighteen months later... Paris now has private plates (GEB-987), and I've just rebushed and repainted the lower control arms in VHT satin black epoxy enamel. Combined with new balljoints (courtesy of Malcolm), new antiroll bar bushes and new droplinks I hope this will take some of the jitters out.

Also has new brakes hoses all 'round, an Aldi...

Years ago (60's maybe earlier) I'm not quite old enough to remember, a lot of cars had paper oil filter elements.

Then we went onto the nice cartridge spin on's in most cases.

And over the past few years, manufacturers have moved back to paper elements, possibly as a cost saving measure (lets not talk about the mess) , back to where we started...
