PSA Engines in other marques

Post by spider »

I was thinking about this a while ago. Do we know what other manufacturers used the PSA group engines (I'd guess mostly XUD and HDi's) in their vehicles ?

I think Ford use the small HDi in their Fiesta ?

Didn't Skoda (or FSO?) use the XUD9 in one of their pickups and possibly early Felicia ?

Would be nice to know what other manufacturers used these range of engines (consider it a question from the curious) :)

There are loads, mainly diesels.

Ford now use the 1.6HDi 110 and 2.0HDi 136 in their Ford Focus and Mondeos. I think slightly tweeked perhaps but mainly the same.

The new fiesta also uses the 1.6HDi engine, which in its Econetic version is extremely economical and i think road tax free.

The new mini has the 1.6HDi engine too and i think its 1.6 petrol is shared with PSA too. The first BMW Mini (before it got a bit bigger a few years ago) had the 1.4HDi 90 PSA diesel.

The 2.7HDi from the C6 is also in Jags, though im not sure if this engine is all PSA? This is also in some Landrovers too i believe.

Oddly, the garage i use, who is heavily into remapping, had a previous shape Suzuki Grand-Vitara in for a 'map, he discovered that the engine is the same one in my C5, the 2.0HDi 110 8v.

Before long, cars will all be the same under ths skin, so many manufacturers already share chassis and engines anway, buyers will just chose on looks alone.

I think some Rovers, 200 & 400 used some of the XUD engines.

yeah older LDV's used the XUD engine,

some fiat vans i am sure shared the same engine if not the body of the pug expert/citroen relay.

also the 3.0litre HDi is also in some Jag's and Landies/Rangies.

The later rovers moved to BMW engines IIRC.

Also the 2.4 litre engine in the Landies is a ford diesel that was developed IIRC with PSA, as were the units in the transits we see knocking around these days.

The FSO Polonez used an XUD9.

The Rover 200/400 from 89-95 used XUD7 and XUD9 lumps, they switched to the Rover L series after that period. Only the revised LR Freelander badged TD4 and R75 used a BMW diesel.

The MINI One also uses a 1.4 variant of a PSA engine. The previous generation MINI uses a 1.4 HDi engines shared with the Ford Fiesta at the time (2001-2007)
2003 Ford Mondeo ST220
2002 Ford Fiesta Zetec S
2001 Ford Puma 1.7 VCT

This can go on forever, as PSA stuff was used all over the place!

That shouldn't be a hard list to conduct either.. Let me have a think.. :wink:

Thanks for the replies so far :)

It's always nice to know where else these excellent strong engines were fitted (and not just as an alternative "go look at a... as a potential source of parts" when you're at the scrapyard)

It's just nice to see them where you would probably not expect to.

KP: Ford 2.4 in trannies we hear knocking about im sure has NOTHING to do with PSA what so ever! Its FAR too noisy for a PSA engine!

Tata and Sierra/Granada engines were NOT XU Family, but the older OHV units from Peugeot only, as fitted to the 504, 505 and 604 models.

From what I can see, XUD, in all guises, thats 1.8 D, TD, 1.9 D, TD and the 2.1 12v and 2.5 12v units were in as follows:

* Auverland A3
* Citroën BX
* Citroën Visa
* Citroën C15
* Citroën ZX
* Citroën Xsara
* Citroën Berlingo
* Citroën Xantia
* Citroën XM (2.1 12v and 2.5 12v versions)
* Citroen Xsara
* Citroën Synergie/Fiat Ulysse/Peugeot 806
* FSO Polonez/Caro
* Lada Niva (europe only)
* LDV Pilot and LDV 200 vans (1905cc N/a)
* Peugeot 205
* Peugeot 305
* Peugeot 306
* Peugeot 309
* Peugeot 405
* Peugeot 406
* Peugeot 605 (2.1 12v version)
* Suzuki Baleno (Europe only)
* Suzuki Vitara (Europe only to 2000)
* Talbot Horizon
* Rover 200 (89 to 95)
* Rover 400 (89 - 95)

As for HDi story - thats a bit more complicated!

The HDi is on its third generation ALREADY!

The original HDi units of 8v 2.o and 2.2 16v units were PSA's OWN design.

Fitted:

Citroen Xantia S2
Citroen Xsara
Citroen Berlingo S2
Citroen C5 S1
Citroen C8
Peugeot 206 S1
Peugeot 306
Peugeot 406
Peugeot 607
Peugeot 806

Then the second generation, which was then Co ddeveloped with Ford, which also bought the 1400cc 8v and 16v versions, then went into

Ford Fiesta (some)
Ford Focus (some)
ford Mondeo (some)
Citroen C range (all of course)
Suzuki Vitara (2000 onwards - 2009 (8 v unit)
Some Jaguars, Its the 2.2 16v unit, not the 2.od
The useual Peugeot range too
Volvo V ranges YES REALLY! Volvos used PSA units again, so long after they dropped PRV V6 in the mid 90's

The V6 HDi, which IS despite arguments, a Ford design, is in

citroen C6
Jaguars
Landrover Discovery 2 onwards
Peugeot 607

Then theres the THIRD generation, designed in conjunction with BMW

This sees the egnines in the New Mini, and in most of the 4 pot BMW cars. This range is too new for me personally to know what is in what.. All I know is that its in conjunction with BMW, and the smaller engines are in the Small PSA cars, BMW Mini and probably 1 series.. and likely 3 series. And of course the useual Fords

So theres a bit of reading, I havent really researched ALL of this, Im only really interested in First generation..

Anyone know any better then this? Id be interested really! :lol: :wink:

The Peugeot 206 also had the 1.9D engine, missing from your above list :)

Oh yes, i forgot about the Volvos, i knew at least the C30 uses the 1.6HDi engine.

Chris,

Is the 1.9D the DW 1.9 that looks like the XUD by 206 years?? I realise I ommitted that engine altogether! But did include the HDi 2.o in the 206..
