Can anyone offer any recommendations for clutch replacement on this beastie (pref with a Southampton outlet)? So far I've had quotes of £400 & £320 from a local independent and a national clutch franchise. I'm not contemplating the DIY option, I reckon I'll loose a whole weekend and most of the skin off my knuckles - boy do I miss my rusty Allegro...

Had my road test today and failed on the smoke. Im wondering what the problem could be, have a 95td 175k so I guess its not the the most enviro frendly but the test has the car at its extreme. Im wondering if there is something I can do to help me pass the test without messing with the pump etc. Maybe a magic potion of some kind ?????

Hi there,
Can anyone tell me what triggers the light to show the handbrake is on?
The reason I ask is as follows.
As many of you know my car leaked, so I've had the carpets out this week drying them off - I had to lift the centre console slightly to get the carpets out, and I've left it like this until I put the carpets back in. However, the...

I have recently bought a xantia td est with 125k recorded, having run a bx rd est to 200k with few real probs. however I now find that even though the bx is still returning 45-50mpg.... the xantia is is at times returning less than 30mpg...! something I was not expecting.
On starting there is a little smoke from the exhaust, with the associated...

Hi all, i'v got a oil leak that i can't trace, it pool's behind the starter motor,at first i thought it was comeing from the dip stick tube but on checking with a mirror there's no oil that i can see above, could it be blowing back from the sump, it's not a huge leak but i would like to cure it. (8v 2.0 )

I mentioned on here a couple of weeks ago that my 93 Xantia was making a hissing noise (like its drawing air in) when still every few seconds. Had the accumilator sphere replaced and LHM renewed and filters cleaned. It now seems to do it intermittently - last night it was quiet, tonight it was doing it again every few seconds. Its not leaking LHM...

r reg axantia ,lately i cannot alarm the car with the keyfob, all activates ok, but the alarm will go off at various times ie 2 mins or sometimes even hours , meaning i dare not alarm it during the night or, if i have to leave the car for any length off time.

Hi again
The problem with the '94 Xantia 1,6 is it cuts out when idling. I suspected the idle stepper motor and replaced it, but the problem is still there.
Between the trottle body and the engine, on the inlet manifold, there are 2 pipes, one goes to the the fuel pressure regulator and the other to a valve that is mounted on the car body near the...

Hi All
I'm afraid I need some more of this forum's wisdom!
After a brief smattering of what could be called snow in the midlands (also shown by the fact the country has ground to a halt! ), my trusty ZX ('94 TD) has failed to start today for the first time.
Basically the car cranks over v..e..r..y slowly and doesn't fire up. All the suitable...

Hi
I will be needing to replace all the pads on my Xantia Activa very shortly as they are all badly worn in one way or another.
With regard to the front calipers, the outboard pads are worn much more than the inners ~ I had the same thing on my AX GT.
(both use single piston sliding calipers: I don't know if this has any influence but one of the...

I have a problem with the air supply inside my 97 xantia td.
No matter what setting I have put it at on the slider air is blown out at the same slow rate. It doesn't stop at the off position.
Any ideas?
I'm also going through about a pint of water each week with no leak noticeable.

The one key supplied with my latest ZX is a copy and not a very accurate one! While it works OK in the ignition it is very sticky in the drivers door and won't open the other doors. The central locking works OK but I have no plip.
I remember ordering replacement plips years ago, from Citroen for my wife's ZX, and paying over £100
Maplin...

Can anyone tell me how a xantia with hydractive II should behave when the suspension ECU is disconnected?
The front seems fine, if a little harder than normal (what I would expect) but the back is almost rigid.
This leads me so believe that the hydractive sphere is doing all the work at the back, hence why the ride is rubbish.
All spheres have...

my wife has a 93 2.1 td auto xm with a driveshaft shot.typical of citroen there are more than one type that fit this car.does anyone know how i verify the correct one so that i can order one from andyspares.thanks for any help.

Hi
I have a 1994 Xantia that has the 6th sphere between the rear wheels.
This sphere is supposed to maintain the height of the suspension constant, even after the car has been switched off, and it does this, but once the car is re-started after a couple of hours, it acts a bit weird. After the car starts, the red stop light comes on for about 15...

Hello Folks,
Apart from wise advice on changing coolant with deionised water and decent glycol, does anyone have any suggests to stop the electrolytic effect on my 2.5 XM? I have just replaced a small radiator after 40,000 miles. A bit too soon, I think.

Reading ALAWS recent post about starting problems on his ZX TD has got me worried. his cars symptoms are identical to mine. At Dave Burns suggestion I have got a set of beru plugs & will fit these as soon as I can. However the NGK's in the car are almost new & tested ok so could some electrical fault be restricting the current getting to them? I...

The air flow slider on my Xantia (98 new shape), the one that changes the flow from outside the car to in or circulate the air inside the car all the time has suddenly come loose I mean it just slides back and forward with no resistance, I didn’t feel anything snap it just felt like it came loose. Is it attached to a cable that could have snapped,...

IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VALEO AND LUK CLUTCHES WHICH IS
BETTER?
GEORGE

Tonight whilst out driving the Xantia ('93 1.9TD) the drivers side wiper shot off over the lip of the screen. Got the car back in the garage and removed the scuttle panel (and the 5ton of dead leaves and compost contained underneath it!) and the idiot who had it previously has used a pair of elastic bands to hold bottom mounting from the linkage...

does anyone know if the clutch kits sold by andyspares come with the
bolts to hold the cover onto the flywheel
thanks

In the Xantia owner’s handbook, it mentions a pollen filter in the ventilation system, and that it requires “periodic renewal”. However, its location and method of access is not disclosed. Which leads to the inevitable question “Where is de Pollen Filter ?”

On my late ’94 Xantia, the coolant temperature alarm is lighting up intermittently, while the temp gauge is is showing a “normal” temperature of 82 to 87 degrees. This is a manual gearbox version, and the original thermostat is stamped with 89C. I’ve tested the thermostat in a water bath with a candy thermometer, and it reaches full open at 89...

Well at 110K the 1.9 NA Diesel engine in my 89 BX seems to be at the end of its life? The second cylinder is stuffed, the is oil seemingly coming through the injector, and the rocker leaks way too much. It blows when first accelerating in any gear, and seems to be loosing a little water. As i see it the rings have either come off or slipped, hence...

For no apparent reason, whilst I was driving yesterday, the rear suspension went to the 'high' position. The front suspension responds correctly when the adjuster lever is set to either low/normal/high position.
In terms of ride comfort, the consequence of this malfunction is less of an issue when the car is driven on a open road (non-urban) with...

Hiya,
(For those that didnt read earlier threads, my sunroof drain blocked, car filled with water, remote locking no longer works).
Thanks for all your advice. I've removed the front passenger seat and found it was wet under the front carpet was well, so will be drying it this week. I also located what is presumably the connection for the remote...

I recentley bought a 1993 Xantia 1.9td sx.The alarm is switched off by the key switch under the bonnet, when I switch it on the alarm sounds straight away. The central locking works ok with the remote.Has anyone out there any ideas. Also from a previos post the whining noise was a front wheel bearing (now fixed)thanks for the advise.

I am going to replace the NGK plugs in my 1.9 td SX to hopefully cure the poor cold starting performance.
Having had a brief look it's clear that I'm going to have to remove some of the trunking in order to get at them.
what I'd like to know is how the bit that runs over the top of the motor & down to the turbo is secured. as far as I could see...

Hello
My wifes 95 Xantia 1.9td has developed a strange fault with the power steering. When turned to the left or right wether stationary or driving it is unbeleivably hard then suddenly goes easy for about 1/4 turn then goes very hard then very easy almost like it has lots of really tight spots mixed with power assistance in between. Any one had...

Thinking about lifting ZX/Xantia TD engines comp with gearbox...
Have a block and tackle to a strong beam that does the job but also may need to use one of those smaller folding engine cranes soon.
Wonder what the engine/gearbox weighs?
David

Please can anybody help with this problem.
I have a 1996 ZX TD volcane which has just aquired a starting problem when cold.
This has just instantly happened, no gradual decreasing in starting performance.
Basicly the car takes about 5-10 mins to fire up when cold. The starter is winding the engine over fine, but there is only the occassional sound...

A simple job, replace the bulb in the dash.
Yeah, right !
I have the wneel off, the top and bottom panels off, the intrument assembly unscrewed..
But I can't get it to move enough to get the speedo cable out !
My hands are rather large ( about the size of an MOT Cert ), the only way I can get access is from underneath, where there appears to be a...

Well, my lifestyle guru ( as she'd call herself ) has been given an AX 1.0 debut ( Injection ) for nowt.
Its an M reg, with 100k, fully serviced and almost mint condition.
However, we have what I think is a problem..
As you will recall, I have a Xantia Td, the brakes are great.
The breaks on this AX are very poor, I have nicknamed it the Barney...

Can anyone advise on the following.
I have recently bought a 96 1.9 td Xantia estate with 126k on the clock. Today it has developed a problem with the remote locking. On pressing the button on the fob in order to lock the car, nothing happens. The small red light on the fob illuminates, but there is no response from the locks, even when I try to...

Hello, I have a single point injection ax1.4i tzx, it is using loads too much fuel, and constantly kangarooing and stalling at all speeds, the fault light come on when this happens, but the nearest citroen place is a long way, and the local garage,s computer fault finder would not work on my car for some reason.
I have replaced fuel filter and...

Hello there
My 1997 Xantia 1.9td has developed a strange knock from the o/s front wheel. On inspection if you jack the front up and put a bar under the wheel the strut moves up and down as if there is no resistance at all and I get a knocking noise. The n/s in comparrison moves up and down about 1 1/2 to 2 inches before resistance is felt. I am...

I need to get to my A/C evaporator to investigate my thus far undiscovered leak. I assume i'll have to remove the dash completely, if so any tips?
