Xantia idle problem

Post by Smalltower »

Hi again
The problem with the '94 Xantia 1,6 is it cuts out when idling. I suspected the idle stepper motor and replaced it, but the problem is still there.
Between the trottle body and the engine, on the inlet manifold, there are 2 pipes, one goes to the the fuel pressure regulator and the other to a valve that is mounted on the car body near the right front strut, in the engine compartment. If I disconnect this pipe, the car idles perfectly. Can anyone tell me what this valve is for ? It seems to have a diaphram that probably gives some electrical feedback to the ECU, but what for ?

Initially it didn't, but today it did, and it stayed on (probably because the pipe is disconnected). I have also dicovered that my exhaust has a hole in it (fron the noise of course), do you think this could have anything to do with the problems I'm having ?
