Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi all

As above really, when turned on the aircon works fine, change the fan speed, direction settings etc. Turn it off though and the 'off' button lights up but the fan keeps running. Anyone had this issue beofre?

You are correct in saying that the fan should not operate when 'off' is selected. Unfortunatly I don't know why yours is still doing so.
Can you use the fan -/+ button at this point to reduce the fan speed or have these been disabled by using the 'off' button?

They are not bad cars at all. I didnt like the looks at first, but the longer i own one the more i like it.

Infact, after giving someone a ride out in the Xm and then in my C5, they said the C5 was a much nicer place to be. More refined, less noise and it felt more...

Hi has anyone had the same problem as me with the rear tyres, I drive a new berlingo van 1.6 hdi diesel short wheelbase. The tyres on the rear have worn out before the front which is strange, The original tyres were michelins and lasted 20 k miles the front lasted 29k miles. the rear tyres were badley worn on the outside edge the front tyres wore...

Looks like you have already found the link.

With the scenic there were tolerances, if the toe in on the rear was within the set limits then it was fine, even if the tyres lasted 20k. Few cars were not in the set limites and had new rear beams fitted.

Its the same on a lot of cars now, very little can be done. :?

I still hear a droning noise when my 90Hdi is idling and the engine is warm.

I'm pretty sure it's not fans, although it does very much sound like that. Certainly rad fans are not on.

A clue? The noise stays at constant pitch if I rev the engine.

Hi all just whanted to ask does an air leak in the fuel lines cause lumpy starting and white smoke when the engine is cold.
Im currently having to prime the bulb everytime the car is left for more than four hours and when priming you can hear air leaking from around the nuckle joining the pipes coming from the primer to the pump.

Sods law. On my way to the MOT station and the car has started squealing under breaking and stays squealing for a second after the taking foot off brake pedal.

So decided to head back home. I'm hoping it is just the pads - either worn or slipped. There's no warning lights on the dash, do the C5 have brake pad sensors? I'm slightly concerned that...

I'm a Ford man through and through. I've had 5 Mondeos and currently in my garage sits a 3 year old 3.0V6 GhiaX that's covered just 19000 miles. I've had it two years.

One other thing is the weight.

I've just got the V5 back and got a bit of a shock.

The Mondeo 3.0V6 GhiaX has a kerb weight of 1495kg according to Ford's brochure.
The actual cars Mass in Service on the V5 was 1475 kg so fairly close.

The C5 2.0HDi Auto Exclusive has a MINIMUM kerb weight of 1609kg according to Citroen's brochure.

Can someone with access to the live Citroen.Service please advise me of price/availability for Part. No. 4023 H2. That's the Activa-specific power steering supply pipe, the one with the flexible bit in the middle of it..

Mine's weeping at the rigid to flexi joint by the gearbox...

Richard, i asume by 2.0HDi your meaning the 8v 90s and 110s and not the 16v 138?

The 1.6 and later 2.0 16v HDis needs the corrct oil too, or this car cause problems too. I wouldnt stick to the long service intervals either, the 1.6 should have frequent oil changes to avoid oil starvation to the turbo.

I've got a creaky rear radius arm - probably the bearings drying out though the wheel isn't leaning yet.

What sort of a job is it replacing the bearings once the arm is off?

Hi folks

Is there a cheap way of testing the coolant for combustion products from a blown head gasket. The cheapest test kits seem to be about 30 pounds. Are there any cheap kits or tricks that people know? Is there a fluid that will do the job?

I've released the tension on the belt, slid the belt off the camshaft sprocket and the diesel pump sprocket, turned the diesel pump sprocket clockwise a bit and locked it with the bolts. I'm now trying to get the belt back on the top two sprockets. It went dark so I had to give up until tomorrow.

Hi all, new member here so please bear with me, I hope to purchase an '01 C5 and have a strange question before doing so. Is it possible to disconect the odometer and still drive the car. I think I have read on here that the speed sensor sends info to the suspension and gearbox (auto), but what about the Odo?

See you got one recently too - love the car :D, was lusting after them for 18 months before making the jump. Big change from my previous 97 Xantia TD ! Speed limiter is a godsend :wink: Only thing I notice is the wind noise that comes in when you hit 60 (mph) - you'd think the window was slightly open - but its not :(

It looks like my radiator could be failing if not already have failed in a small way near the top.

I got the radiator fitted last year when i had another tct engine dropped in the car but i know if i call the place that fitted the rad and parts they will say that i need to come in, pay for them to check it and also replace it with another part,...

I agree Peter. as fuel there would be say, 30-40 quid and then another hours labour on top and antifreeze if they charge for it would be another 5-10 quid.

where as i could fit it myself in an evening, 2hours tops maybe, buy the antifreeze myself if i must and do the job from there for a lot less.

Its buying the radiator i don't want to have to...

Don't know if that's what you call it but I am sure you will know what I mean, anyway mine was acting up so I replaced the battery, by the way contrary to what it says in the Haynes Manual there is only one battery, I then turned on the ignition and and pressed the lock button to program it the problem is that sometimes it locks the car and and...

Paul, its me again I took the circuit board out of the housing but couldn't see any bad solder joints I also have a second key which I checked as you suggested but still the same, sometime it works and sometime it doesn't and that's right next to the car it used to work from about 10 or 20 feet away and that's after initialing as the hand book...

The last Xantias with the 110 engine had a certain level of electronic technology, ecus etc. Can anyone tell me whether this was carried straight over to the C5, or is the C5 is burdened with much more in the way of additional electronics & sophistication?

As the number of Xantias dwindles, I'm thinking we'll all eventually be forced to accept...

When it was available I ran the C5 on on Morrisons Biodiesel. It ran just the same as normal fossil diesel. Even after the remap. I ran the A Class on it too for a few tankfuls.

My local Morrisons have now done away with the Bio diesel which I suppose is in response to the environmental impact it was has - food prices and such.

The nearside front sphere on my 2004 C5 Hdi Estate has developed a leak - fluid on drive the giveaway.
Is this a DIY job or is a diagnostic computer required to access the suspension ECU to enable the suspension to be depressurised.

Hi I have a 2004 C8 2.2 HDI; when I start the engine the revs struggle to increase sometimes I cannot rev over 3000 rpm
If I disconnect the battery or even leave idle. It will eventually rev up to 5000 rpm stationary.
The engine warning lamp is now permanently on, when I drive the car has no power like in limp mode. I do get the error message...

Ok i think i was on the wrong side of the vehicle in my previous post, this unit.. is it a large-ish black plastic unit with what looks to be a small radiator at one end? the plastic unit forms a sort of air duct & so i think it is indeed a rather elaborate radiator although exactly why they need them I'm not sure (i think the citroen dispatch...

Following the advice of forum members I hunted down Plusgas ( A mission in its self), Got the tools out with a heat gun and dived in. Loads of Plusgas on the back of the bolt and heat along the lenght of the top bolt, within minutes the bolt was out enough for the caliper to move. :P Putting the bolt back in slightly I moved on the second , Same...

Sept. 2000 90Hdi saloon, 50500miles, recently had new tyres fitted and while work going on I had a peek at the front pads/discs.

Oh dear!

Pads very thin (probably explains squeaks) but more alarming, discs worn.

Have got new Citroen pads ready to fit. Really need to do this before I can get to fit new discs.

Can I expect any real problems if...

U This is easy with a wind back tool but if you don't have one the square end of a 3/8 drive extension inserted into the gap between the raised centre and the outside of the piston , driven by a ratchet will do the job :wink:

Does anyone know if the genuine Citroen alloy roof bars have the same locking type channel as the Thule Aero bars.

I have two Barracuda bike carriers that have square feet that sit in the roof bar channel and lock down. These work fine with Thule Aero bars and genuine Ford alloy bars but can't tell from the photo's if they will fit the...

hi all,im just new here,so please be gentle.after try unsuccesfully for three days to find a return valve for power steering the one on the passenger side bulkhead with the two metal connectors and with the rubber hose that goes to the steering rack i wonder if some kind soul can tell me where to get one,ive tried dealers and online breakers all...

sorry for the late reply but the small aluminium box is on the passenger side under the bulkhead above the nearside drive shaft,im still being told that it is a return valve and if taken off for a length of time the whole front end wouldhave to be fork trucked up,sorry for this but im a numpty im at a loss now as one dealer sent me a abs box and...

Hi all,

I have completed the change over and new timing belt fitted and no change to rough idle.

I am wondering what role the idlling Actuator (1239 in wiring diagram) plays and could this be a possible cause of my problems.

I see in the service handbook for my Xantia that

the corrosion guarantee includes the free repair and/or replacement of corroded body parts (perforation of the bodywork and underbody caused by corrosion which starts on the inner surfaces).

This guarantee is for 6 years for commercial vehicles and 12 years for other vehicles, with no mileage...

I looked at this last week, since our 7 year old Picasso has rotted a sill out - clearly from the inside out. The Xantia handbook states inspection required at 4, 6, 8(? maybe not sure) and 10 years required. Charge time is 0.6 hrs - plus any remedial work identified :lol: I'm sure our Picasso didn't go in for its 6 year inspection, so I'm sure...

I need to get mine booked in for its cambelt and waterpump to be changed, now on 72K miles, dont really want to leave it much longer.

I think the later diesels, 2.0HDi 16V and 1.6HDi, are supposed to go for 150K miles without a belt change. :shock:

1996 Citroen Xantia 1.9 Diesel.
Oil level warning light flashes for around 30 seconds after starting engine.
Changed changed oil filter and replaced oil to correct level.

I can't easily see the oil level sensor.

In the Haynes manual is says:

Oil level sensor - The sensor is on the front side of the cylinder block, just to the right of the oil...

Hi, I've just changed the regulator sphere and the car rarely ticks now and if i sit in the boot and do the test it rises fine, but, overnight she's still a sinker! if i start up wait for stop light to go sometimes i start off and there are no breaks till i press hard then it nearly puts me through the windscreen! it did this before i changed the...

I have just bought a new sender unit to try and sort out an inaccurate fuel gauge but there is no hole to fit it in - there is a hole under the seat for the lift pump but not one for the sender unit - does this mean mine has a combined unit?

on service citroen it shows two units fitted into the fuel tank,

one is the rheostat, the other they call a fule tank cover,

this sendor might not be the same part No. as the one you purchased,

and as Spider says it dose show two units fitted one each end on the tip of the tank,

refering to KannyW's picys i always remove the outter skin of the bottom lip back to one layer of metal, other wise when/if welding to multiple layers of metal with rust in between, it will not weld very easy,

Anyone had reason to buy fuel injector o rings? I looked at the price of them on Cit Service and they list as over a fiver so I was wondering if that was for one or for a set of 6?

So I've found the Bosch part no.s for the injector o rings and filter basket and 'Mr Injector' is on the case, but no where can I find the o ring that seals the fuel rail to the cylinder head, it's not even shown on the Citroen Service site part finder. I can only assume from this that they are an integral part of the fuel rail :? Unless anyone...

Hi all

I have already introduced myself on the Introduction page but not had much chance to discuss my car as had problems from day one

Its now been repaired after it's Head Gasket Failure and I hope it will now serve me well for many years to come

Hi Guys,

Last night they had a little piece on veggie oil and set me thinking!

Is it possible to add straight rapeseed (not veggie oil, rapeseed being slightly thinner) to a ZX 1.9TD (Bosch Pump)?

Thought I would mix anything up to 50% diesel/50% Rapeseed oil?

Will this make the pump work harder?

Does it have any benefits? I heard it can...

Maybe i've been blind to the fact the SVO is quit a bti cheaper than diesel and that my car will run perfectly ok if not better using it, i dont do too many miles anymore but definatly some savings to be made, oh and saving the enviroment and all that!

I shave squeezed that little rubber balloon under the bonnet to not effect.

Have to replace both rear ABS sensors on my VSX and found These on ebay.
The price seems good and he also seems to supply fronts and rears for MK1 and MK2.
Any thoughts on quality

i could do with some advice on running veg oil whats the best way wvo or svo what needs to be done and how. i've checked up on the pump side of it and mine is fitted with the bosch pump (mk1 xantia td 1995) this seems to be the prefered pump:?

I thought I'd read that it was under the rear seat behind the driver... now I'm thinking it's under the bonnet.

Ok, I finally got around to this job.

I took the seat out, as well worth it.

Not a lot on it really, just a fragment of crud. More crud at the bottom of the tank, but couldn't get to it, so left it there. Looks like dead flies etc.

I also changed the fuel filter.

Getting the ring off was a pain, as the flat bladed driver I used did chop off...

I knew about the fuse for the radio, but not the other one....just swapped over the bottom fuse on mine and the 12V accessory socket in the passenger footwell is now live all the time. Cool - means I can charge the camping lantern when we're away without having to leave the igniton on for hours. Learn something new every day.... :lol:

My ageing ZX diesel estate has seen better days and I'm considering a Xantia HDi estate as a replacement.

The ZX was my first Citroen and has served me well on a very tight budget. I'm a bit concerned that the Xantia with it's proper Citroen suspension will cost me loads if/when it goes wrong.

The 2.1 is even better, almost as good fuel consumption as the Hdi and much more reliable, easier and cheaper to repair.
2.1's are OK provided you wear ear plug's.

You've obviously never driven and XM :D

I agree, they are very quiet once under way, though at idel they are a little noisey but not overly so.

I can certainly vouch for them...

hope you can shed some light on this.
recently the auto wipers havent been working, when i set the stalk to auto the wipers just cycle every 5 seconds, whether wet or not. is this a common fault? any ideas?

got a replacement sensor yesterday and i instantly saw the problem. no sticky pads on the sensor, i swapped them over and bam, auto wipers ahoy :D .

Hello guys! New to the forum as have been the owner of my first french car, a c6, since november 09!

Yes you are correct. I've had a look in at them today (had posted on another thread). A rod linked to the lower arm connects to the little wiper/lever on the potentiometer.

Obviously as the lower arm moves it sends the rod up and down in unison.

The potentiometer is mounted on the arm at the point where there is little or no movement and...

I had this fault on my Xantia when i bought it (recently), it was the forward o/s/f suspension bush, i replaced the worn bush with a gsf one (about £9.00) but that was about as much use as a chocolate fire guard! so as the rear bush was also split i fitted a 2nd hand suspension arm & this cured the fault, apart from the anti...
