C5 2.2 hdi front brake calipers

Post by Millerboy79 »

Hello guys,
I'm plainly being stupid but I'll ask anyway. I'm trying to change the pads on the front, however I'm struggling to get the pistons back in far enough. The handbrake is off, and I'm turning the pistons to retract them but they only seem to go so far, which isn't far enough. What am I doing wrong?

Are the brakes powered by an LHM pressure system on the C5 or a traditional brake fluid system?

They are traditional brakes. DOT 4 fluid.
Have you tried cracking a bleed nipple?
It is not recommended that fouled brake fluid be forced back through the ABS system. Let it run out (catch it with a small hose into a pop bottle or similar)

They must be winded in and in Xantia clockwise to get them IN.
I remember reading in one of the threads that C5 brake pistons of right and
left side have different directions (clockwise/counterclockwise).

Did you remove the master cylinder cap?

hi, done my pads yesterday. The drivers side has to be turned anticlockwise while force is applied and the passenger side goes clockwise (If I remember rightly).

My handbrake was sticking and worn the pads out on one side, managed to free off the arm on the caliper and now all good.

ps, I did remove my cap on the brake fluid reservoir.

Cheers guys,
I had the cap off and was applying pressure while turning. I'll try cracking the bleed nipples off today and see if that helps.

Hello,
It would appear mine needed the bleed nipples slackening in order to get the pistons to retract fully, all done now. Next up is wiring because neither side has an intact loom for the wear sensor!!
Cheers
