Hi,
My 2005 1.6 Hdi (137,000 miles) broke a valve. Cylinder head, piston and bore damaged. My mechanic suggested a used replacement engine. I have had an offer of a low mileage 2010 1.6hdi at a good price. What I want to know is will this much newer engine be a straight replacement for the 2005 one or are there going to be problems with electrics and sensors etc.
Thanks,
Nmet

You would need to find out the exact engine type code to know for certain. Even then you could find Citroen have changed certain parts for different manufacturers and consequently have changed some plugs/leads. Can you not view the engine and do a direct comparison (take photos)?

I would want to know what ECU was used on the new engine and a check of sensors would be good too.
I think that you do need to be sure that the engine will work with your ECU, changing the ECU is likely to be a bigger minefield than changing the engine.

Was this due to cambelt failure?nmet wrote:Hi,

I recently fitted a Ford Focus 1.6 HDI in a Picasso, engine codes were identical, but fuel pipes and pump fittings were different, we got it all working in the end, but believe me it was a BIG job, the 1.6 is a very fiddly little unit.

No, new cam belt at 127K. car regularly serviced by dealer at 10k intervals. I think I was just unlucky!
