Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Really simple. Can I get some point by point instructions on how to change a front spring and a wheel bearing on a 2003 Picasso 1.6 LX ?

If you are changing a front spring, you will need to change the spring on the other side as well. Springs settle over a period of time and will reduce in length(height).

If you donot, you may find the car takes on a weird aspect. :shock: The corner with the new spring may be higher and that may upset the cars handling!

Back on the road again. Driving beautiful, but....my rides been pimped !

After starting, activa kicks in balancing the suspension for about a minute, and she jerks and jumps quite fiercly at the rear offside, as though somethings sticking, before settling down. Also does it sometimes when stopped at lights/junction. Citroen garage...

Hi

I have a Picasso desire diesel 2.0 HDI o5 plate.

It sounds rough when idling and car judders a bit. Apart from that starts 1st time every time and is OK when driving.
The citroen main dealer charged £80 to have a look and said diagnostic computer showed no fault so they would replace injectors to see if that is the problem and if not...

HI

I have managed to evacuate all the gas in the system, there didnt seem to be hardly any pressure anyway.

It seems quite easy to get the compressor off- Aux drive belt and four bolts, plus inlet and outlet of A/C system .. i think

Does anyone know where I could get hold of the seals to repair the aircon?

Thats an interesting discovery you have there.

I fitted a system from a T reg HDi Xantia to my L reg 1994 TD Xantia.. The system worked perfectly in the HDi, but after fitting it to my TD, with a new set of seals, I then discovered when I tightend up the Compressor mounting bolts the body Leaked as you found... but when I slacked them it...

Hi, I have a 96 Xantia 1.9TD which has a leaky camshaft oil seal. I've replaced that oil seal 3-4 times and after a few weeks it will leak again. It happened ever since I sent my car for an engine overhaul. Now even the top engine cover leaks oil, even after changing the rubber gasket. Any suggestions?

Hi everybody. I've just bought a 1999 Dispatch 1.9d with an intermittent starting problem. When starting (after glowplug lights gone out) it will fire then instantly die. and will take several tries before it fires. Seems fairly clear it's a fuel starvation problem. Two possibilities; air ingress and/or blocked tank filter.

Assuming your Dispatch has an XUD9 engine (1.9) with a Bosch injection pump (like a Xantia):

- There's no separate fuel lift pump - the whole fuel system from tank to injection pump is under negative pressure (the Bosch pump sucks fuel...

Doing a normal update of the internet of version 45, not paying close attention and downloaded and installed version 46.

Hi,

I am running a dual boot.

I did try VM but found lexia ran considerably slower under VM and that dual boot was the better option.

I agree about updates - initially they seemed perhaps of little value but harmless !

I think my problem was that I did not spot that it was a V46 update. I had previously had no problems with V45 updates.

Hi,
I have now noticed the red alternator charging light flickering on and off recently. When it stays on, it is only half the brightness as it is when ignition turned on but no engine running.
I have checked all the leads I can get to for tightness, also the auxiliary belt is nice and tight.
Any ideas anyone.?

Had a day away from the car today. I have noticed that the alternator is covered in oil. Been like it for a while. I am wondering if the oill has got in the nator and gummed up the brushes, and commutator, and made it die that way. Just a hope. Still need to get it off the car.

Hi,

X Reg Picasso 71K miles, 1.8 petrol

I have just driven the car to the garage as it was making a continuous screeching sound. I thought it was just a slipping belt and/or needing a cambelt change.

The garage just called and said it was the clutch release bearing and a new clutch is needed - £650! all in.

Is this too much and how come I...

I don't think there's anything wrong with the diagnosis, this is the usual cause of clutch failure on citroens and peugeots (and fiat puntos) which use the very small release bearing. The symptoms you describe are 100% consistent with this fault.

My aircon went just before xmas. I say went, but it was still connected to the drive permanently for some reason so the bearings went and it is still whiring away whenever the car is driven so Ive limited that to short journeys.

What I think I need to do short term is switch to a non-aircon belt, that way I can have it de-gassed and drive it...

I assume it was done by the rediculously parked curtain-sider van that I parked next to as it's not there today.

It was the only bay left for me and I was concerned this might happen as he'd parked in a corner bay and would have to turn tight to get out.

Hi,

I have a X reg Picasso 1.8, 71K miles.

Over the last few weeks there has been a metallic rattling at low speed, low revs and sounds just like a piece of heat shielding rattling (or something else fairly flimsy rattling), but I can't find anything loose. The sound is not as bad when engine is warm.

No idea what i'm on about?

For 30 years the Swedish magazine World of technology as put cars through the elk test. Max passengers, max weight, and then they send the cars down the track to simulate an emergency high speed maneuver to avoid the elk . This is the test where they turned over the Merc A-class.

Hello Guys,

I’ve got a query, does anyone know what would cause uneven front / rear braking, or in other words over heavy rear braking on a Mark 2 Xantia. The brakes were working fine and the pads are fine all round.

I think I’ve noticed the suspension being slightly off balance as well when driving along, but that maybe in my head.

Bought this new for my Picasso HDi 90 at a cost of £440. Did exactly what they said it would, massive boost in torque and power. It basically turns your HDi 90 into a 110+ and the HDi 110 into a 135+.

Also used it on a Xantia HDi 110 and Peugeot 406 HDi 90.............worked perfectly on those as well. Not had an HDi for a while so its been...

1) Recently hit a big pot hole and exhuast snapped just before the back box (luckily as can replace cheaply) however i have put a exhaust join over the snap and tied it up with metal wire.

The car will run for say a 10 minute drive then go very sluggish and start jerking and miss fireing. could this be because the exhaust it hanging lower than it...

I've just managed to stupidly cook the engine in my Xant. By the time I noticed the temp gauge was on the rise it was too late, the yellow warning light on the gauge came on (but not the big red STOP light). Once I'd managed to stop safely it was rather hot. Attempting to use the heater to add to the cooling resulted in no hot air, so not much...

You just CANNOT go wrong with the Engine in Luton, its just had a clutch and cam belt from what he said...

Hi,

From the post it is not clear what your exact problem is.

However, the handbrake lever on the caliper often seizes up/sticks.

If you apply a little plusgas or similar to the pivot area and then work the lever backwards and forwards using a mole grip or simialr they will often fee up.

Then put some grease around the pivot area.

changed my fuel fliter the yesterday and nnow fuel is leaking from the quick release pipe from the fuel pump, its on properly and seals look ok. can't think why its doing it. bought parts disc but its not showing pics! so can't identify part number of union and stiff plastic pipe, any ideas?

Better too much than not enough. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Don't worry, I will look at the nose weight very carefully before buying. I know it's not easy to compensate. My last van I changed to smaller gas bottles to reduce the weight.

I have now had the car back from its Head Gasket repair around a month now and all has been Ok with the water level so far.

I have really tried not to think about it but the worry of that beep sound and the Top Up Fluid is still haunting me everytime I go for a drive.

When removing the right-hand (offside) top engine mount (for cambelt access) the Haynes manual says you're supposed to support the weight of the engine under the sump using a trolley jack and block of wood. It doesn't say how big the block of wood should be though. I've got a block of wood (softwood) that's two...

I just use a small trolley jack with a piece of wood about 3x3 on that. Not had any issues and done this for years.

Regarding leaving it overnight, I'd agree not to leave it on a jack. Last time I had to leave it (I guess I could of left it hanging but that's not ideal for long, better suited for some quick access) , I just used a small axle...

I feel the rear spheres need a change they visibly look in a bad way. I can see 3 when I look under, but are there more? I know of the 2 strut ones, and the third I am guessing either the anti sink or rear accumulator? I'm not sure since citroen changed them the once and I haven't since

I got under it last night and did see the 4th one behind the spare wheel like you said. I'm doing them all since its been 3 years. They are covered in rust spots so they maybe fine but looking at them it does not inspire confidence.

Also the soft sphere is leaking a bit at the front, I feel it is probably just the seal since it doesn't do so...

Our Xantia V6 seems to be giving problems at the moment.

It started to be hesitant and snatching when moving off until I changed the fuel filter and that seemed to cure that, guess it was just being starved of Petrol.

Now it seems to be cutting out, the revs fluctuate to suit it's temperament and when it's remotely warm, even after running for 2...

You may catch a glimpse of the Bitron without practically dismantling the whole car but that is all you'll get. Classic Citroën design - if you can see it, you can't touch it; if you can touch it, you can't see it. :lol:

I believe the diagnostic plug reading only supplies the ECT result, and the Bitron status (not its triggering state).

Does anyone know how an improper ride height affects the handling of my Xantia? Aside from the obvious raised or lowered centre of gravity, does it cause, say, a softer or firmer ride?

Mine's too high but still handles reasonably well, albeit a bit boaty.

Uniroyal 550's are very good abit soft if you're heavy on the cornering but stick like **** to a blanket in the wet and very responsive.

That's good news :D If you find the link pops off again, replace it with a new one as hairline cracks can develop in the ballcups. Also, if the height corrector mechanism was stiff and a bit rusty, it may need some deeper attention.

I decided yesterday that I would crack on with the jobs that need doing on our HDi so took it into the workshop and decided to do the nearside wishbone.

Dropped the driveshaft off, and noticed the ABS ring on it was loose so I took it out and welded it back onto the shaft. The ring had splut which was allowing it to move on the end of the shaft....

Well I found the cause of the knocking last night.

I'd tried to undo the drop link, when it turned through I decided against taking it off all together.

When I grabbed the anti roll bar and pulled on it, the roll bar moved on the drop link so I put an allen key in the bolt, nipped the nut up, and that seems to have solved the problem.

What was the 'protection' added for with later water pumps ? (post 92 if I remember correctly when the covers went to bolt on design instead of clip on covers)

It's a 'side' to protect the drive sprocket on later ones, but it obviously does not fit the earlier ones due to the cover design (as far as I know the later pump will foul the earlier...

For a number of years my Xantia has had difficulty starting when the temperature gets down to freezing.
(slow starter motor.. like a flat battery with rpm pointer flicking around the dial and all the dash lights going dim )
I have had 2 new batteries over the past 5 years and put in 0-50 Synthetic oil trying to solve the problem but the situation...

Hi, I own a C5 2.2HDI manual estate. Sometimes the reverse actuator on the gearstck has stuck in the up position. I would like to take the top of the gearstick off so i can get some thin lube od furniture palish down the stcik or actautor. Does any one know how to take the stck head off please. I've hung on for a few days since the garage sorted my problem on Friday out of sheer superstition I think.
However the computer identified only one fault this time which was the EGR operating solenoid, and on inspection the vacuum tube had a slight hole in it.
Had I known where to look I could have spotted it myself.
It's on the driver's side...

Any recommendations for suppliers for wiper blades? I am needing to replace all three on my Xantia, amazing how it passed the mot given the nick of them! The rear wiper seems to be a slightly unusual fitting compared to other (lesser) cars I have owned - can an aftermarket replacement be used or does it have to be OEM?

I've got a leaking PAS supply pipe, which is weeping LHM from the join to the hydraulic pump ( it is the right hand pipe on the top of the pump, looking from the front ). I've taken it apart and it looks like a standard brake flare joint. Is this correct? If yes, can I get away with using a draper flare tool to recreated the flare? I'm...

if you look down the cam belt end of the engine with it running, you will see if the tensioner just below and rear of the alternator is not running true,

if the aux belt fails it can wind its way into the cam belt cover and take out the cam belt as well

Hi,
To add to my woes with hydraulic leak, the car is now running very rough and has drastically lost power. The car broke down a few days ago - it started making a noise which i had put down to the aux drive belt starting to self-destruct. The timing cover side of the belt had lost a few inches of the first rib so I got a local garage to replace...

I would agree, certainly sounds like timing. The only oddity is that low power and smoke are associated with the injection timing being retarded which usually makes the engine difficult to start and quiet rather than noisey, I'm wondering if your noise it due to the valves hitting the pistons. An inspection is definitly needed.
