Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

hi lads took out my thermostat and tested it, but it didnt pop at any temperature, really not sure what t story is, cos i bought a new thermostat, with 83degrees written on it, and it actually caused the car to rise in temperature more than the old thermostat!

The thermostat is like a violin; it's about finesse and control. It doesn't suddenly go SPROINNG! :shock: and pop open when you drop it into water at 83°C.

Does anyone have a diagram of where the air pipes go behind the engine on the 1.9TD ? Ihave a massive oil leak back there and can't see where they attach. I think the leak is coming from around the alloy mounting somewhere.

Along with the cam cover gasket, the vacuum pump on the end of the cam can leak too, oil runs out the back covering the back of the engine.

I'm not sure hot glue would be suitable for a fuel device that's exposed to the heat of an engine.

If the pump is off the car and 10 years old or more, you might want to consider replacing the seals and that adjuster at the same time.

There's a huge amount of detailed guides and instructions written by other DIY'ers on the internet.

Left my Xantia in for the NCT test ( Irish MOT ) and they snagged an indicator lens and headlight adjustment...........easily sorted. However the third item was front l/h wheel very stiff.

I was surprised as the car doesn`t drive as if it has a dragging brake...and still doesn`t. I Jacked it up and sure enough the wheel is difficult to turn by...

Drained the fluid.....put in flushing fluid and bled it through the brakes.....sure enough the car felt freer after a few days. Will leave it in for 3k and then put in LHM. ..tks for the advice.......Dannyboy.

I have just tried tried to replace bulbs in my Xantia using the handbook to tell me which bulbs i need (stated H7's) so went and got them tried to fit and looks like i actually needed H1's??

Does anyone know if i can actually still fit the H7's as I have heard its a better bulb anyway but can it actuall be used? There is a double fitting on the...

I went to a Motorfactors in my town and was told that H1's and H7's fit the Xantia on a 97 plate, depending on the model. I took a H7 home and it turned out to be a bloody H1... If I'd got a H1, it'd be a H7, I just know it!!!

I have an 04 C5 and the parking sensors are indicating a fault (short beep followed by a longer one) So far, I've disconnected each sensor in turn with no change and disconnected all, again with no change.
Listening to each sensor I can hear a fast ticking which is presumably the sensor emitting.

Had the same problem on my old C5, it would beep when put in reverse then it was a continuous beep. I cured mine by laying on the ground at the back and twiddling the wires that went into the sensor, it cured it on mine.

Right i phoned him up i did to view the car. He phones back later saying. His name wasnt on the log but but he still got the green slip. Somthing about the bloke who he bought it off messed up with the log book forms.
Before i went i got a car check saying it had 2 owners. Last one was in 2002

Couldnt find anything after 2002 in the service...

its an assistance motor type but the motor & torque sensor are part of the steering rack rather than the column. There is also a seperate ECU for the steering aswell.

I've noticed hydraulic fluid leakage from the left side strut. I've jacked the vehicle and cleand well the strut area and found that the leak is from the hydraulic return pipe. the problem is that its friday noon now and the shops are already closed for the weekend. did anybody found a way to improvize such a pipe? is it possible to push a...

Anyone know if the linkage is operated by cables, and is it adjutsable, or am I looking at something more sinister and expensive to repair here?
Jumps out of 2nd and 4th on coming off the 'gas', and a bit hit and miss finding 1st.

Posted before that I had what I though was the sound of wheel bearing on the way out but was hard to pinpoint. Well the car has WANLI S1108 tyres on it, and when you google WANLI tyre noise it all becomes clear. In 15 years of driving I have never known tyres to make this much noise. BF Goodrich are Michelin's cheaper brand - they're ok. But in general, Mich for Citroen (esp real ones), Contis for VW/Audis and Pirelli for Alfas. Strange, innit! Four patches the size of your palm and it's your life in their hands. I always think of that on a wet night, cornering with an HGV approaching in the opposite direction.

Hey all,
The green goblin seems to have developed an immobiliser fault! Any of the 3 keys I have dont 'authenticate' with the immobiliser.
When turning the ignition on The immobiliser warning light stays on and the car emits a high pitch beep. It still turns over of course but is not allowed to start.

Where should I start looking?

Sounds like the problem I had Andy, as Jim will testify the Engine ECU was totally incommunicado!
Apparently the wire is in the main loom which runs through the front bumper.
I'll try get more details at the weekend when I pick the car up.

Sadly not being a party to the repair means I don't have any first hand information.

Hi all,

I am about to purchase a Hymer motorhome fitted with a Peugoet 2.5 Turbo Diesel engine.

Am I correct in that it is a CX engine that is fitted?

Is there anything I should be checking?

Depends on the year but its quite likely. Good engine those unless you get one with a pourous block as I was unfortunate enough to, I think it only affects the turbo's but results in frequent failure of the head gasket - still a nice engine though.

I am in the process of refitting the towbar from my old C5 estate onto my newer one. However in the intervening months I have misplaced the wiring notes I made. I have a diagram for the 7 pin lighting plug but can't find one for the relay that has 5 wires. Black I think is earth, not sure about yellow, orange, grey and green ?

Put three new spheres on my Hdi90 yesterday (see earlier posting).

Really pleased, but still a little apprehensive because today I needed to fetch 24 stone slabs @ 11kg each from a depot about 20miles away, rural French (i.e. bumpy) roads. So all in one go, didn't want to go twice.

Rear seats down, spread slabs, drove back home with no probs at...

In the download files list there is one to install when the electrovalves are swapped.

Do I need any security codes to implement the download? How long does it take, typically?

Will be making sure the car battery is charged, also that laptop battery is good and I'll even have the portable generator handy for continuity of...

I can't answer the original question but I think sinkers keep their rear suspension more supple (in my experience) and the steam train hissing when sat at traffic lights is quite good.

I've been trying to research the action of the rear suspension corrector but didn't really find any video or that many pictures of the part itself, so this Saturday I recored some video that you may find useful (but cetainly not exciting).

Also, I believe that the corrector is sticking! (note the foot action).

Just a quick point... The Crank pulley centre bolt does not need removing on the V6. The pulley is bolted to a flange via four small bolts. It's just necessary to remove these and the pulley then comes off for access to the belt...

hi gang i want to check if my thermostat is working ok, so i need to remove it, is it screwed in, how do i remove it, i have gotten this far already:

do i test it by simply dropping it into hot water.

btw, the reason im testing it, is because my car is slightly overheating, could this be caused by a faulty thermostat, or would faulty...

hi gang,

my dials have done 360,

i reconnected the battery after it being disconnected for about 2 days, and when i reconnected:

my speedo lies under teh rest place under the 0 and the rev counter is down at under the maximum revs of 5000rpm on my hdi xsara

any ideas how to fix this?

Looking for a set of alloy wheels to tidy up my wife's 2001 picasso, it's on 15 inch steelies at the moment, i think the xsara wheels will fit but could i use a set of 15 or 16s of a 307 or even a 206?

looking through the Haines Manual for the ride height of my Xantia 2ltr 110 HDI seems to be very comlicated can someone tell me the height from the wheel arch to the ground with the engine running and at normal height. Thanks allan

Not much at the front but the back being low is probably due to the plastic link on the height corrector being broken or the corrector sticking.

A few weeks ago I posted that I had problems with the clutch slipping in my C5 Tourer but had not been able to recreate the problem. Last week however it slipped again whilst accelerating up hill in sixth to get up to motorway speed (1500 to 2000 revs, peak torque).

I went to see the dealer who at first said that Citroen only offered a 6 month /...

There is a leak problem with the pump on my Xant and I'm biginning to suspect that the pump body may be cracked :shock:

I've replaced the O ring seal on the ouput valve 3 times now, the first 2 were standard sized from my workshop selection box but the last one was genuine Citroen as they are a special size.

All 3 have eventually started to...

Has anyone been game to try this?

I'm looking at the need to update a couple of AL4 boxes, and don't want to arrive at a point where the process is irretriveably underway yet some critical data issues are not present or matching.

Any verbal pointers on the process, would be most welcome.

I dont see it being a major problem although i've only ever done it the other way around.
One other thing i should add is you should always make sure the engine ECU is up to date aswell, on a car with an auto box if you update one of the ECU's (autobox or injection) you should always update the other.

hi guys. ive got a p reg synergie and was wondering if the rear glass in the slidey doors is easy to get out to tint? also how do the rear pop out glass come out? any ideas? 8-)

they could be tinted if your a pro tinter but its difficult if you dont know what your doing with the glass in place in the car. :) ive tinted windows on a few of my cars n have always removed the glass unless it was a bonded window to tint them as its a better job n easier. :wink:

They are cheap new and really common.

Any TU petrol (1.1 / 1.4) will have one in the thermostat housing, along with earlier XUD's. Should have no trouble at all finding one from scrapyard if needed.

If in an emergency, bleed then insert a small bolt. I take mine out completely to bleed anyway.

I do know they snap with alarming ease sometimes,...

Oh dear-10 items on the pink VT30 this time. I've only done 4,386 miles since the last green VT20. I think my tester is getting harsher.

The bit that seems to get stuck trying to extract the rack through the wheel arch is the ram and pipes. I need to get a 12mm hexagon flare nut spanner to get the two pipes dismantled it may just pull out if these were off.

I was right about the difficulty of getting the track rod ends off the rack.

I had to cut them off at the end,...

Hi all, just wondering, can the alarm be swapped between vehicles?

My parts car (UK spec) had alarm, worked really well.

New one (ex singapore :cry: ) doesnt have such a thing, the insurance company decided to hike my premium as a result.

What parts will need swapping and will it be a simple plug and play, so to speak?

You'll probably find the complete wiring looms are different between alarm equipped models and those without, not to mention usually built in PSA alarms are annoying and to be blunt not terribly reliable.

A decent (professionally fitted, so you can show the details to your insurance people) aftermarket unit will be far superior and could be made...

I have concluded that Series 1 and Series 2 front suspension arms are the same at least the non Active Suspension ones. Looking for what I thought was a hydraulic leak I spotted that the near side lower arm rear suspension bush was shot. I have had a pair of arms kicking around for several years, not sure what they are off other than it was a...

Hi guys,

Just signed up as I've a idea rattling around that I need to be put to bed or let grow.

Put very basically I'm thinking of retro-fitting the Hydractive system from either the Xantia or C5 onto a 106.

I registered on the following and paid for an hours use, 4.50 Euros.

My leaking suspension is repaired via a modified clip (screw type instead of OE spring.) £10. It looks like a jubilee clip in the diagram but

My PAS leak seems to be a common fault which also causes high frequency whistling, and it does do that. The part is a modified assembly...

I've finally got around to trouble shooting my Xantia's malfunctioning front electric windows. It appears to be a broken wire in the rubber bellows between the car body and the driver's door. A degree of wiggling returns power to both windows when the door is open.
My question is which wire is the power supply to the driver's door switch?

I have heard that modern cars use no fuel when they are on trailing throttle. So now as I approach traffic lights etc. I change down, allowing full engine braking, rerasoning that this should use no fuel at all.

Is this true for my 90Hdi?

If so, then how does it work and how do you check that it is working ok?

hey gang

i have changed the coolantin my hdi xsara and I can only locate 1 bleed screw - the one on the bulk head,

i have read everywhere that there is a 2nd bleed screw, but cannot locate it.

the one ont he bulkhead is like a dust cap on a bicycle tube, what does teh 2nd screw look like, and where is it located?

The Allen screw seizes even if it’s never been overtightened, so it’s not your fault.
On the petrol Xantia, the Allen screw (item 2) is mounted on a tube that turned slightly last time that I tried loosening it.
I turned it back to where it was and it never leaked.
It’s never affected the cooling because hardly any air ever came out of there.

Had to be recovered by the ADAC last night. Afyer decent trip my front wheels started wobbling. Stopped in a Ludls carpark. Anyway guy said my caliper had siezed and the heat had melted the ball joint rubber jobbo.

I had the brake pads replaced a couple of weeks back. A week ago we smelled a burning plastic smell and burnt my fingers on the disc....
