French Car Forum

Merry Christmas to one and all. :D

Yes vanny thats the one mate samuel L jackson and peeps. Ive not noticed any Bx's either but mainly due to the missus going oo ooo im on in a sec (shes on screen for a few secs at one of the nite clubs).
I quite like watching them drive round town too as you watch them drive donw one street go round one corner and they appear on another street on...

The stuff at our local BP is luminous green as well. I was changing the fuel filter on a mates car and I thought someone had maybe put LHM in the wrong place! It looks exaclty the same!

It's probably quicker to go - London to Edinburgh Via Glasgow! :D Crazy huh.. :(

You can do London to Edinburgh via Glasgow, but you have to go up the M6 via Birmingham and Manchester or up the M1 then accross the M62 to Manchester then up the M6. In either case, its a lot longer or the traffic gets you. Personally my choice would...

Or, you could find a motorway, cruise at 120 kph (slightly illegal) and time yourself over two kilometres based on the posts at the side of the road.

The posts at the side of British motorways are less accurate than our speedometers.

As fo rthe accuracy of GPS, at a steady speed it is as accurate as you can get. Shame we can't say the same...

Looks like a good idea. Especially after the mess that I have just scooped out of the XUD in my mums Rover. Long, long overdue for a coolant change - the reason that the HG has recently let go  (and I blame myself for not checking it as my parents know knaff all about cars). -Anthony.

Just seen in Asda..... £1.25 for 3 litres.....thats cheap! I don't think it can be an official part though as there's no chevrons...lol. Personally, I just love the look on the face of the girl at Lidl when I walk out with 30 litres! I just love deep frying!

I have taken some pics whilst working on the car, but I live in fear of getting the camera covered in guk, the pics I took of my engine when I was building it up just look like a heap of oily things :(

I suppose most of us have taken chances in the past in the thought that getting caught will not happen to me? (no insurance/mot/tax)
Let him cast the first stone eh?
Imagine if you had a horrible accident, not perhaps your fault, the effect on you and other people could be catastrophic without the insurance cover to help rebuild broken lives.
For...

I'd go the proper route. Police may not bother you any other method but best not to think about what would happen in the event of an accident. Last thing you want is the insurance refusing to pay up.

I've got to fetch my 2cv from Lincolnshire at some point (about 110 miles away) and enquired about these classic car transport folk. One bloke...

Yes, just like Friends Reunited you have to add yourself to their database..... Wouldn't call it useless, but the more people who add their old cars, previously owned, current etc will build the database and who knows what you'll be able to find out, e.g. it was a write off..... and you're about to buy it.

And its on e-bay complete with roof :-)

Very tractable engine though which surprised me.

Thats very true, they are very capable of being pootled at 1500rpm in 3rd and 4th.......seems a waste though :-)

I could be tempted by Marks Hurricane (if you happen to spot this Mark)

That was well shocking news that. 34 is no age to go. I remember when I first heard the news about him having the tumor and thinking that he would pull through it. Damn shame. :(

I can see the wide mouthed frog headline in the Sun already.

Nice to fill that missing slot in the Citroen lineup though. Time to change the system then I think.

I mean just how unlucky can you be.

Damn, i never thought of looking at it that way, thanks.

Has to be worth ago. One of those clever but simple ideas! Hope it gets off the ground.

I recently had to fit two new front tyres, and was told by my garage that they were doing an offer. Rather than buying the budget tyres (I AM on a limited budget) for a bit more, they were doing a promotion on Vredestein Hi-Tracs.

Green ?????

I know it wants a wash, but GREEN !!!!???? Yes it would of been me.

There is another saloon to be seen around the Poole area sometimes too.

Well Citroen made a TD Xantia and I suppose its vitals could be transplanted. Probably easier into a Zx than a BX as there's more room under the bonnet and presumably they share a similar ancillary drive system. (BX hydraulic pump is over the gearbox driven by a pulley on the camshaft.)

Search may have to step up a gear as the Audi decided idling wasn't such a good thing to do on the way in! Three pedal driving in the fog. Ah, what fun!

If it plays up on the way home, I'm cancelling the CV joint replacement and I'll just get rid. It's my only car at the moment while my 2cv is having a winter fettling session so I need my one car...

Bet you wish you had kept the diesel now :-)

Touch wood

I have never had to touch a battery after replacing dead ones with bosch (five now and counting)

I also agree with F&f and Jeremy. The response to someone writing a bit of tripe did appear to be well OTT at the time, all forums have to put up with the odd nutter or two, thats life. and thats why we have moderators.. :)

If that was the cas ewouldn't it follow that they would close all the forums?

No point in closing the others as no one...

ha! find me a 10 year old Peugeot with working or reliable air con!

I prefer a sunroof. Lets the light in and fresh air in.

There's only about 4/5 days a year when I wish my Air con worked!

My 405 was nearly 10 years old when I got rid of it, A / C worked ok, You have to look after an A / C system for it to last.

The new sysem now makes the centralised database THE record. This will prevent car owners arguing that they have a valid document when the central record has no valid entry as there can be no such thing as an error.

1. Benefits Vehicle Licensing
2. Benefits car owners
3. Benefits UK

Select ONE only of the above.

If someone dislikes their car they will obviously rate it badly for everything!

Fine.

But would you spend around 20 grand on a car you didn't like?

Wouldn't you go to great lengths to make sure you would like it?

I did. And I am not dissapointed. Maybe I have low expectations but I expect my bus to carry lots of people and drive like a bus....

Fiat panda 4X4 - what a car! All of 60 bhp under your right foot. But what good fun when you take it off road and have to winch it out of something (only I could get one of them stuck  ) - Alex.

Planète Citroën forum is running a thread on the reliability of the 1.8 engine.
There's talk of one that's clocked up 401,000 km using LPG:

Winter is approaching - and its time to realise (again) just how truly crap the ZX headlamps are.

I must uprate them
I must uprate them
I must uprate them
I must uprate them
I must uprate them
I must uprate them
I must uprate them
I must uprate them

Headmaster.

I am very patient - until i run out of it!

I know it must be extremely slow, as i already find my sister's Corsa (1.2l 75bhp) slow.

I've talked to an acquaintance about this car and it costs about half in the real world . Unless i can lower the price, then it's a no-no, as 4000 euro is the price of a TD from the same year.
For small...

I found this reply from Peter posted on another thread...

>>I am using Valvoline G-05 Concentrate mixed with de-mineralized water to a 50:50 blend. I paid about A$10 per litre for the concentrate. <<

Re Evans coolant USA it did not use any water at all. I seem to recall they claimed that once the stuff is in your engine there was little or no...

Its a nippon denso copy of a bosch i may have to remove it myself then it supposed to be a 8hr job :P ,then it should be £275-£675 only,my bx cost less than that to buy insure and run for a year :(

With modern cars its the emissions bit where people tend to come unstuck- you can check take along a car in very good order with nothing apparently wrong with it and be hit with a fail on emissions.

I sometimes have a look on the Car Mechanics mag forum, and there's a whole section dedicated to MOT and emissions: there are some really expensive...

Well done! :)

One of our local MoT stations let me test the car, I did all the switches etc. There were a few failure points which they let me sort out on the spot. Much better if you ask me.

turbo sound is the idiot noise that some turbocharged petrol engines make when their pressure dump valve opens. There seems to be competition between these fools as to how loud they can make the whoosh noise.

I see. IMHO, revving up the engine on a 2CV with a trafficlutch and switching the ignition makes a much better noise, as does the banshee...

But we have the EU to PAY farmers to keep fields empty when they could be put to this kind of use.

This is very true. The farmer down the road from me grew a massive (and I do mean massive... maybe 400 acres) field of linseed last year, and recieved a subsidy for doing so. Slight problem was that he didn't actually harvest it, and so it was...

Holes do not a wheel mounting make.. try bolts also, you must do!

Sorry, but it's Friday!

Amazing they continue with this scam two years after the DfT found speed cameras in roadworks increase the number of accidents. :x

And also thats the best thing to do with an old BMW.

Funny you should say that - that was the first job that i had during the summer holidays when I was 15 or 16 ish. Happy days (oh gawd he aint going to reminisce is he :-s ) they were indeed. And even now I still cant spell!!! - Alex.

Can't say that I have had any experience of Citroen sales (i.e new car's), but the after sales (i.e part's) Bassets in South Wales (Swansea and Carmarthen) are quite good - much better than the local Ford dealer - Days of South Wales, and the Rover dealer - Stratstone (nee paramount) are both pathetic. 12 monkeys would do a better job. Rant over -...

1986 & 1987, wow what a year. Running an old (R reg) Austin Maxi twin carb HLX. £25 per week wages, beer 75p a pint, petrol....filled the Maxi for £9.54. Fags (was smoking then but now stopped) Malborough 20's £1.25. And then there was the girls, the music & the night clubs......... I miss those times. Mind now that I'm married and have a little...
