Citroenitis

Post by j_roc »

Dear Dr,
Please help Me. Since buying my Xantia 7 months ago, I think that I have beeen struck with a severe case of Citroenitis. It appears that the symptoms are obvious - when I sell my Xantia I aspire to own the flagship of the range (Xm with a V6). And the mere mention of something historic like a H van, Traction avant or Sm sends me weak at the knee's. Even when I see a dog eared Bx estate with the back end sagging on the floor, knock's and dent's from front to rear and smoke billowing from the 670k engine I see a potential "project" car! Please help me - before I would have been content with a Ford Escort, but now I think that I have got Citroen LHM in the blood. Please can you prescribe some pill's or put me into some councilling programme to save my sanity (what's left of it) and my future wallet.

Many thanks - Alex Ryles.

You should probably try staying away from some of the seriously infected people in here! I tell you, the longer you stay the worse it gets, and theres a very deffinate point when you cant make it back from normality, you'll talk down to everyone who doesn't own a PSA car, and stop to help any of them who have lost there way!

I'm a bit worse, chaps.
Get me a nice looking babe and a HP Cit side by side and i will probably choose the Citroën, honest! They will burn our wallet down the same way, but the Cit will never betray us :P
You know the feeling when one sees an abandoned dog and wants to take him home to take care of him and love him? I need a brain surgery, fast!

Even worse...

I was the proud owner of a K plate BX TXD in 2000, I traded it for a brand new Berlingo Multispace. In 2002 I traded that as a huge loss for another Multispace, this time an HDi. In January this year I sold the Berlingo and bought.........another BX TXD.

To date there is no known cure.

Well there is but it involves a wooden box and six feet of earth.

I'm sure you won't feel the same in a few years given the choice of a Xsara or C5!

That's the big problem. :? What do I get if-when my ZX meets its demise....

Has to be diesel auto.. Has to be an ECU free zone!! I dont need aircon, or a turbo.. I can unlock a door without needing mechanical help.. I can wind a window down.. Music is a distraction in a car, (in my opinion it's worse than a mobile phone!) So as long as I can get traffic news, thats all I need from a radio.

It has to be.. Reliable.. Comfortable.. Have PAS.. Reasonably economic.. Have good all round vision.. Seat 4-5 people.. Have room for carrying stuff in the back with easy access so a hatchback would be peferable.. And be a good all weather road holder.. :D

So what do they make now that fits the bill? a diesel wheelbarrow? lol.. Looks as though I will be driving pre facelift, ZX's till my driving days are over... :? :D

Edit.. the time given for this posting seems to be 2 hours fast :?

Of all your requirements, this will be the hardest to achieve. Idiot European regulations now mean that a diesel engine cannot achieve emissions regulations without electronic control, and I don't think there is ANYTHING on the road under 2 years old that doesn't have a critical ECU. (this ignores ABS-specific ECU's etc.)

If European law continues the way it's going, exhaust emissions will be amazingly clean..... BUT we will all have to buy new cars every 5 years, because we won't be allowed / able to fix them, and so the environmental burden of making and scrapping all these cars will be massively worse than keeping the older car on the road.

How amazingly short-sighted is that!

There is no help, Alex.

To alleviate the symptoms, get one of each, less those models whose name starts with "C"

Incidentally, you are also showing slight signs from plurali'sedapo'stropheiti's! If you run a fruit and veg stall you are exempt.
