Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Was anyone else up at 1-2am last night?! Brilliant programme on Men and Motors channel about the Plymouth to Dakar rally. It was about a rally from a few years ago I think.
Anyway, one of the cars was a BX! H reg. I didn't see it at the end of the programme, so I don't know if it made it or not, does anyone know?

Jean has killed the Mazda. :( She ran into the back of a big Renault. :shock: The Mazda front slid underneath it and shoved the rad back into the air con etc etc... :cry: No one was hurt, the air bag didn't even deploy. :roll:

Seriously though, I think people of my age (ish) were brought up in cars that were very very basic

I'd agree with that!! Compared to my Vitesse, the BX is positively opulent luxury management class motoring!!

In the Triumph I do have the luxury of 12 volt electrics- but fed by a dynamo,screen washers that are worked by a hand-pump,disc brakes...

Here's a tip - dealers often have a surplus of steel wheels taken off new cars which have been 'upgraded' to alloys and fatter tyres.

I had a rear wheel stolen from my Xsara last week (thief even took the wheel nuts and dropped the car on the ground). But my day was saved by a Citroen dealer who sold me a steel rim complete with new Michelin...

I have finally made it back!

When Andyspares died last year I followed the route to here but was having so many major pc problems I didn't log on.

I think my pc died in sympathy with Andyspares and I had to rebuild it with a new motherboard and cpu.

Got back up and running just before Christmas and have been slowly adding programs and going...

I've been a lifetime Citroen fan (grew up with my parents running 2CV's and CX's, then owned four 2CV's, a Visa RD, two BX's and two Xantia). Well if the average motorist could see this, then maybe they would think twice before pulling too close in front of a truck, and taking away the trucks braking distance.

It really is amazing that they forget physics, and common sense, and think that a much bigger, and heavier vehicle can stop as quick as a car.

Has anybody else noticed a massive improvement in performance and smooth engine running when using Shell Diesel Extra in a Xantia HDi... car seems to be a bit rougher and less responsive when using other diesels, do Shell put something in it?

I filled my car up with diesel at Sainsburys the other day & noticed a strange thing. When I spilled a couple of drops the fuel was bright green, not just slightly, but almost a fluorescent green like LHM or limeade!

I've never seen this before, derv is usually a very slight yellowy colour but not bright green. A couple of people have suggested...

You can do London to Edinburgh via Glasgow, but you have to go up the M6 via Birmingham and Manchester or up the M1 then accross the M62 to Manchester then up the M6. In either case, its a lot longer or the traffic gets you. Personally my choice would...

Hi Folks,

I have often wondered how accurate the speedo was on my car.

But never got round to doing a check using a measured distance (Mororway Juntions) against time say doing an indicated 60mph.

Then the other day I borowed my sons GPS device, and I was able to do a direct comparison.

Both the speedo's on my Bx's were reading 10% fast at...

Or, you could find a motorway, cruise at 120 kph (slightly illegal) and time yourself over two kilometres based on the posts at the side of the road.

The posts at the side of British motorways are less accurate than our speedometers.

As fo rthe accuracy of GPS, at a steady speed it is as accurate as you can get. Shame we can't say the same...

Several years ago, I read an advert for an in-line coolant filter, made of a fine gauze that fitted into one of the hoses. It would be nice, and very usefull, if we had a collection of drawings for things that crop up a lot. E.G. I'd go the proper route. Police may not bother you any other method but best not to think about what would happen in the event of an accident. Last thing you want is the insurance refusing to pay up.

Yes, just like Friends Reunited you have to add yourself to their database..... Wouldn't call it useless, but the more people who add their old cars, previously owned, current etc will build the database and who knows what you'll be able to find out, e.g. it was a write off..... and you're about to buy it.

Hi

Am tempted by a BX 19TRS auto currently advertised for £490. 120ishK miles. Aside from the usual stuff (ie rear arm bearings, green puddles and rust) anything I should be looking for?

MOT until Oct 06.

Isn't the TRS the one with the funny windows in the C pillar? Is the auto box generally reliable?

I have just heared in the news that rally champion Richard Burns has sadly passed away aged 34. Richard peacefully passed away late last night (fri) of astrocytoma - a kind of brain tumor, after spending the last few days in a coma. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

If you hadn't heard yet the Peugeot 4007 is on its way for 2007. Its a joint venture with Mitsubishi and will also be the Citroen C7. Its a 4x4 SUV.

Now has anybody spotted one, there may be two of them already in the country, my data from DoT shows 4007 SW SV AUTO, with two examples at the beginning of the year. I wonder if Peugeot have two here...

I bought a ZX aura 1.9D auto about 18 months ago, on Jeans behalf... Nice car, L reg, pre face lift, goldie colour, with one prev lady owner, done 50k ish. I paid about £850 for it..

Well Citroen made a TD Xantia and I suppose its vitals could be transplanted. Probably easier into a Zx than a BX as there's more room under the bonnet and presumably they share a similar ancillary drive system. (BX hydraulic pump is over the gearbox driven by a pulley on the camshaft.)

Am looking at buying a Pug 309 Diesel for £300. Problem is, what do I do if I can find no sign of a cambelt change? I hate cambelts. Changed the one on the Audi (or rather Stinkwheel did) when it was probably fine.

Anything else specifically to look for on one of these? I guess head gasket is another obvious thing to watch for.

I've been looking around for another cheaper to run car so I can get the Goodwood sorted & get it out of the salt & winter crap & the other half can have her own wheels.

So I just got a 1992 Ford Escort 1.4 with a years MOT & 6 mth tax for a decent price. Rust-free for a Ford, just a bit round one rear arch. So here's to a trouble free but boring...

You have to wonder what the point was in the Citroen, Peugeot and Renault forums not being supported by GSF any more, as they have now re-started a french car forum, along with all the other forums they run.

So all that has happened was EXACTLY what people didn't want to happen, IE the experts being dipsersed around various different locations...

I saw a P reg Peugeot 405 estate today.The lastest i`ve seen is an N reg,& the oldest 406 i`ve seen on an N reg.It must have been 1 of the last to be sold.Has anyone seen another P reg? :)

I prefer a sunroof. Lets the light in and fresh air in.

There's only about 4/5 days a year when I wish my Air con worked!

My 405 was nearly 10 years old when I got rid of it, A / C worked ok, You have to look after an A / C system for it to last.

Just to set the minds at rest of those who have removed the cat from their diesel exhaust, re the computerised MOT. Just had my '97 Xantia tested under the new system for the first time today (had the cat removed last year) and it passed with no problems. No mention was made of the absence of cat at all.

My never ending search for the perfect car continues. Anyone got any views on the Pug 406 V6? As much as I love Citroens, I'm struggling to find anything modern that doesn't either terrify or bore me!

Have seen a 406 V6 GLX 97 with 57k for around a grand. Has had cambelt along with a water pump at around 45k. Manual box.

Been looking at a Xantia as we all know to relace the Mazda. Have looked at a 'T' reg, one owner in misty blue today. All the stamps taxed and tested. Hi!

I spotted a '97 Xantia at the dealer where i bought the C5.
It's an ex-taxi, 1.9D (71bhp) with 330.000kms.
The engine claters well and the suspension seems also to be in good shape. The interior, apart from being dirty from the years and service, is also in a very good condition.

The amount of kilometers is what gets me thinking, thought...
