French Car Forum

...and here's hoping we're all still here this time tomorrow worrying about
strut tops, England footballer's chances and a recession etc. May be worth
having a lie in until after BST 8.30am tomorrow - either that or put your
head between your knees and cross your fingers!

Wondering whether the scientists said there was absolutely nothing to...

On one of the other forums I frequent, the subject of what to do should the undead rise up and run amock often crops up, and within the discussion, which vehicle to go for is hotly discussed.
Now many people talk about hummers and big 4x4s or even sports cars, but thinking logically, I always put forward the Xantia 1.9TD

My reasoning is that...

To my knowledge PSA mounts all it's engines at an angle of 20 degrees backwards.

I may be wrong in that they do it to all their cars and also I may be wrong that it's 20 degrees...

....however

I've had a 406 with the 2.0 XU and now a Xantia with the HDi. Both have had engines mounted at an angle.

My question is this...Why are they at an...

chaps, a friend swears by swarfega..

I swear at it

in the garage I worked in as a kid, commer manista was the ONLY option.. yellow with beads, I think tuffanega is probably as good..

Have tried marg and salt a few times

Swarfega has always struck me as something to get rid of soil, grass, dust etc..

I do try and wear surgical...

This coming weekend (August 29-31) sees the Citroen Car Club (CCC) Midland Section Rally take place at the Stratford On Avon Racecourse.

Anyone planning on going? I'm planning to be there on the Sunday.

You don't have to be a member of the CCC to attend. All are welcome but naturally it helps if you turn up in a Citroen :D

It should be a good...

Having 2 French cars, thought i would join up to see if there are any local meets and events for us French car lovers :D

Daily drive is a Renault Megane estate, not that i'd want to turn up at an event in this

Weekend toy is a Venturi 400GT
much better for playing out in :D

Now moved to the correct place

Just seen in this article from the Beeb that the 2CV has it's 60th birthday.
Never owned one but did have a Renault 4 that was a cheap knock-off.

Those were the days :)

It must take some dedication, this...

On a rare train journey into Waterloo yesterday, I lost all fiscal control & bought an Independent (good grief).
Once I was able to sit down & get my glasses on 8) I skimmed the 'Beat The Pump' article (fat chance). I found the following quote hard to believe:-
'Finally, if you've got a diesel car that's 20 yrs old or more, there's a good chance...

Spent the best part of the day wandering around taking photos of so many cars.
Amongst the 'rarries, DBs and mercs, there were quite a few Citroens :)
Spotted some SMs, a 2CV, a CX and a GS Rally car which seemed to be going for highests fuel economy rather than quickest time...

Currently uploading, there's about 130 in total, and a treat for...

Had my first dream of owning my very own Citroen XM :-$

Hey Guys, its that time of year again.

Can anyone recomend an insurance company who offer 0% on monthly payments? I know virgin do this and was wondering who else does?

I'm sure there were a couple last year, but I can't remember who they were.

Cheers

oops...

Google strikes again!
You reckon his strut tops will still be OK?

Andrew

Despite working there about 10 years ago, I've never had a chance to go to the airshow until now (wow has the site changed!)

Three of us went and took over 1000 photos.
Unfortunately my new camera hasn't arrived so I had to use my old 300D, but it did a decent enough job I think, but is really showing it's age.

More photos will be up later

Mine...

i've had problems with an ex-insurance company called More Than  . The treatment includes upping my xs and premium even tho' i have a protected ncb.
Just wondered if any one is with a better company? :P don't mind paying a bit more for SERVICE! i wouldn't recommend these Amateurs.
I'd be delighted to hear....
This car, incidentally is...

Last weekend I went down to Portsmouth to catch up with some old school friends (one's off to volenteer in India for 3-12 months) and see my ex who now isn't (Kate).
By the time I managed to get away from work, it was too late to get to Costco, so I treated cassy to some v-power diesel (I'll often do this when I need fuel reciepts for expenses, my...

Guys and girls...is anyone up for a NW Citroen meet sometime? As there doesnt seem to be many happening why not start one?

Initial thoughts are to meet in Manchester on a Sunday perhaps in Trafford Park?

Flights will be pricey...

:)

95 mpg is what I am getting right now (WVO at 60ppl), could carry enough fuel for a long way.. suspension for those roads in the back end of India/Kent

Shelter, slight security..

And have a spare engines...

Moderators... If this is too far off topic.. Maybe someone can give me a link to a techie site where I can get help with this problem. (erm one I can understand please!).. Plzz email me with any help you may have, then I will delete the posting.. thanks..

I have a Major PC problem.. Recently my PC keeps running a process called svchost.exe. (...

Filled the old Xantia 2.1TD today, 62 litres at £114.9 per litre total £71.24 first time £70+ fill ever. I’m going to have to walk more, trying to be very good and I’ve managed to average 49.75 mpg out of the last 3 tank fulls but £70 a fill!! Was 73.9p a litre when I got the car 5 years ago that’s an increase of more than £25 a fill – OUCH! And...

Having recently paid £50 for two sill repairs to my Dad's car I notice cheap migs can be had for about the same price so wonder if it's worth getting one? I have two small and one big welding job planned already and thought I could save myself money through DIY. What are your thoughts? Are the cheap kits any good and what are the running costs of...

Has anyone on here noticed how hard it is to sell a car recently?
I am positive that it has got something to do with the current economy and people not wanting to spend money!

I've had the other halfs astra for sale for one month now (on the autotrader for two weeks, signs in the widows etc) and only had one phone call.
It's at the point now that...

For many years I have been looking for an ammeter to suit a 1939 Peugeot diesel engine conversion in a Fordson tractor. Yes, I know it is not a car! This is just a normal, round type in a sheet metal dashboard.
The electrics on the engine are Paris-Rhone. If they did not make instruments, who did? It seems inconceivable that there was not a...

chaps, I have this with my current xantia and have had it before, noticeably with a heavy comfy and slightly missed 605 :)

It isn't a constant vibration at a certain speed, more of a 'wave' of vibration that builds and dies every few seconds, noticeable at 70-80 ish...

I have 3 new tyres, all balanced allegedly.. car has exclusive alloys..

I...

My fathers 99 mondeo TD is smoking a bit - it's blue not black - any ideas? If the engine is revved it smokes but it gets worse when he takes his foot off the gas. Bear in mind the car has covered less than 70k and has a stamped book (but no invoices). He recently changed the oil and put the correct grade in - it has gotten worse since then. It...

Dear motor sport fans

As a student at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg I am conducting an empirical study on Formula One and motor sport clubs. This study is part of my diploma thesis at the chair for business economics (department for industrial management) under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Kai-Ingo Voigt.

The following...

well.. a 500 mile overnight trip to Wales and back ..

all told 550 miles.. I put in 50 Litres of WVO and £10 of deisel (about 7.5l)

so economy was : 43.4 MPG average.. (Cost of 550 miles was £35) :D

It's worth noting that I normally run my poor old TD ragged this time I tried to not use throttle for all of the above miles...

Also, roads...

Hi,
I got my Matra Murena 2.2 tuned at a RR the other day. Racepower Motorsport near Maidstone. I've been there before and the old boy, Jim, knows his carbs.

It has a Chrysler 2.2 engine, same as in the Talbot Tagora and has been retro-fitted with twin Dellorto DHLA45s, a Holbay cam and 4-1 manifold.

I'd jetted the carbs myself, so was fairly...

I just asked to have my insurance transferred and they've increased my premium by £80 p.a. but couldn't tell me why other than it's a higher-rated car . :(

With a £20 admin fee bundled on top I'm not happy at all with the quote but what can I do? If I cancel and shop around again I'll lose out on cancellation fees, will have to buy another year's...

With the increasing cost of fuel every day it seems, i have had to adopt a change in driving style!

My 1.9 TD has been tweaked to run a little more boost, and more fuel to improve response and match the boost. When i turned it down a few weeks ago, i really missed the low down responsiveness that the tweaks gave, so turned it back to how it was,...

I can't get the Opera Browser under Vista to work with citroen.service.com

I can log in but trying to look at the spares areas it does nothing. If you force the page to open in a new tab or window, it is blank. Java seems to be installed.

I've had to resort to IE7 to look up some spares

Any thoughts or am I going to have to...

If it's been covered already I apologise, I must have missed it.

Is anyone going to, or have been to the French Car Show?

My son-in-law to be is interested in purchasing an Xm and we would appreciate any advice regarding the purchasing and care/pitfalls of Xm ownership.

I have had no contact with Xms other than to drool over them.

Any responses gratefully received.

I`m going to get my cambelt, tensioners, aux belt.& maybe water pump changed soon.Rang around half the French indies today, cheapest was £255 for both belts & tensioners.Dearest was £240 just for the cambelt.Rang a local Peugeot dealer(family run),£240 all in for belts & tensioners :) .

Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about TalkTalk ?

I don't have any operational issues with Pipex, it's just that I want to get away from BT line rental which is included free with TalkTalk.

I wonder how much more desireable (value £) my Xantia 3.0 is now? Since it is a year 2000 and therefore escapes the RFL increase on 2001 gas guzzlers :P

Fell of me chair laughing!

Today's news tells of UK fisherman that cannot afford to fish. Cooking oil has trebled. Is this the end of the good old british chippy?

Even worse; Other news says food (and other goods) will become in short supply because of the cost of transportation.

Was thinking the other day that I fancy a 406 or 306, to replace my Xantia, as the Xantia has a genuine 103800miles and most 406/306 TD will have done load of miles my engine and box are mint. Also the Xantia is going to need a lot of money spent on it soon, ABS light on again, clutch on last legs, AC needs gassing, front discs and pad needed...

does anyone know of a list of vehicles which can run on svo, a couple of members of staff have asked me having smelt the chips from the back of the pug! and as they are quite new vehicles i was reluctant to say yes or know without some hard facts.
thanks.

but will it fit??

This is about as good as it got this weekend - had to abandon the final fit as the relationship between the car/hoist/garage roof conspired against me. It's a long (boring) story. But another lost weekend beckons before the beast has its heart back. And England beat the Kiwis at Old Trafford. Damn!

Still, reasonably happy...

I know it's not French car related and you may call me silly etc  however,

Next month I am going to be taking on a new role at my work place. I will be driving the delivery van for them. Now its not too bad, only a smallish one (Mercedes Sprinter 311 CDI) but having not driven a van previously I just want some general advice that I may not...

Hi Folks,

I had my car, 1.9TD LX S Reg Mk2, in the garage at the start of the week for a water leak I couldn't trace and they have discovered it and an LHM leak I didn't know I had.

The water leak is coming from one of the hoses down the back of the engine going into the heater matrix, it's seemingly a complete unit and price quoted for a...

Why is it so many people have this thing against French cars? What is it thats so rubbish that I'm just not getting?
& whats so clearly fantasticallydoodydandy about Jap cars that everyone must have one & if you don't your looked down on?
I've always had this thing that just because someone like Clarkson (& I do like the old fella) says a car is...

It's often been said that nobody takes his drinkin' more serious than a Territorian, and if anyone wants to argue.......................read this!!

Bet his missus gave him an earful when he got home. :x

What's the difference between French Car Forum UK and FCF Test

This isn't really the correct place for this, but I can't find a more correct place, so here goes.

If I use firefox to browse the forum then it looses all my new-posts flags after the first page. If I use IE it works correctly and the new-post flags remain for the duration of the session.

Is it working correctly for anyone else using Firefox? Is...

I am looking for a left hand drive car (and poss. driver) for a scene in a feature film that takes place in a canadian taxi cab. We would require the car for a day's shooting currently set on Sunday 25th May near Stansted.

Any cars considered, but a 4x4 would be ideal.

Many thanks.
