Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

First sorry its not on a french car, i started using a veg/diesel and in winter up to 20% unleaded mix in my 205d then the same in my bx estate now i have a rover 420td but have been gathering info /parts since the 205.

Basically for the small amount of duty home users hand over, it costs HMRC more to administer, so it's cheaper for them to let us just use it.
If memory serves in Germany SVO can be used without having to pay duty.
Also there's the issue of the court cases etc trying to show that the goverment hasn't been living up to it's Kyoto promises.

Today I have been towing our caravan down to the New Forest. As yet the Activa is not equipped to tow so I used our old faithful Xantia TD.

I work for Commercial Motor magazine - and came accross this unusual Citroen GS van photograph while searching through the archives.

I have to confess I didn't even know such a thing existed.
Does anyone know how many were built - or whether any still exist?

Like the BX van, the GS service van was very popular in Ireland but practically unheard of in the UK. They were very popular with vets and most would have had a fairly tough life. There are maybe three or four still knocking around in Ireland - the rust would have got most of them a long time ago

Quick question for everyone,

With my car looking like I won't have it up and running for its MOT, I may be in the position of having to SORN it, the tax runs out end of march and the test is due pretty much nowish, next fortnight. Is a driveway considered off road enough for the purposes of SORN?

What are the best and worst cars you've owned and why?

My best is probably the Xantia. It's an SX model so it has plenty toys ant they all work. I paid £200 in December and it's just sailed through its MOT. I bought two tyres and a mirror glass before the test and that's about all it's needed.

Anyone any tales to tell of having Tesco's or Morrison's contaminated petrol?

If the fault is found to be in the petrol, could you sue the 2 retailers in the small claims court to recover the cost of repair?

Why can't I find a decent price on a cambelt kit for my 1.5D 106?

I've looked all the usual places & GSF seems to come out cheapest but you have to by each bit individually.
Consequently the bill is £72.20, that includes 1x Cambelt 1x Altinator Belt 1x Lower Tensioner & 1x Upper Tensioner.
Seems abit pricy when you consider you can buy a kit for...

I stumbled across them by fluke doing a web search for the bits I needed and was impressed that they did the tensioner pulley, the jockey pulley, and the belt all in one kit, and I was surprised the usual suspects (GSF,ECP) didn't also do them all together as a package- it's annoying, like BX clutch...

My, I suppose, future brother in law has informed that his R-Reg 1.3 Petrol Fiesta Encore has started losing oil.

I asked the obvious whether any on the floor where ever its been left standing and he said no.

Since I beleive the UK law has been relaxed in December to allow wireless FM transmitters, I was wondering if anyone could comment on if they've found them any good.
I'm think of these things:

Hi,

Am i correct in saying that you cannot fit the xud9te 1905cc diesel 8 valve cylinder head onto the xud11ate 2068cc block? If i remember correctly the coolant passages are different on the two engines, as is the belt.

What I am wondering though is would it be possible to fit the crank rods and pistons from the xud11 into an overbored xud9...

Dear all,

Any ideas about the practicality of swapping a 2L Hdi engine into the bay of a 406 2.1TD ?

Physically it obviously has form , but what about electrically / electronically ?

Presumably we're talking wiring looms, immobilisers etc... ie. not worth it.

Any ideas ?

Martys covered most of the problesm i've encountered with the idea (though i was thinking along the lines of a 2.8hdi from a realy van :D) the smaller HDi's hae a very similar bottom end and will physically fit into most of the PSA engine bays (alledgedly you can get a 2.1td into a 106!!). Wiring however is a bit of a big!

Yes, though it's really a '95 car on a **good day**, wearing a year 2000
english registration plate - something you don't do legitimately in the UK
unless of course it's a car that time (and a Citroen dealer!!) had forgotten...

Last series it was leaky pluriels with dodgy cutting out engines, and last night it was Clios with bonnets springing open and slamming up against the screen on the motorway-the BBC apparently had 200 odd reports of this, but Renault won't admit to a fault or do a recall (but have apparently changed the design on the latest one) they wouldn't even...

I've been after a good set of ratcheting spanners, the type I've been after are the type that have an open ended spanner on one end and a ratcheting ring on the other, these are far better than the dual ring type made from pressed and rivetted metal.

Aldi have some coming in tomorrow, (Thursday 1st Feb 2007) 5 ratchet spanners for £11.99. These...

My AX's headlamp has become a victim of the weather. So I need to get a new one.

GSF have one for £25 inc VAT (They have a branch near where I live)
Euro Car Parts have a FIFFT one for £15.30, which adding delivery comes to £24. Or a Valeo for which comes to £67 but out of stock.

Anyone know what make the GSF one is? And which is better?

Hello all, by heck its been a long time I must say, but me and my OH are in the house now and we are expecting broadband shortly, using my folks connection at the moment for Uni research and such!

The best thing about the house, is the removal of a fence panel, concrete post and a gate, oh and an iron gate, some old very solid rebar concrete...

I need some new tyres for my 406(205/55/16).After some shopping around i`m tempted to get Michelin for £84 f fitted.But i can get Goodyear NCT5 for £57 fully fitted.Cheapest buget tyres are £45,so there not really worth it.I`ve never had Goodyears before although my company use only Goodyear on all our earthmoving machines & all cars & vans....
