Should the undead rise up...

Post by Xaccers »

On one of the other forums I frequent, the subject of what to do should the undead rise up and run amock often crops up, and within the discussion, which vehicle to go for is hotly discussed.
Now many people talk about hummers and big 4x4s or even sports cars, but thinking logically, I always put forward the Xantia 1.9TD

My reasoning is that it's:
Reliable and simple, no complicated ECU, direct injection pump or spark plugs to worry about, especially the pre-immobiliser ones.
Spare parts are readily available, just swipe them from other PSA vehicles.
Loads of space inside, even the hatchback has a large flat boot.
Suspension, able to raise the car up to pass through floods or over obsticles, and it makes changing wheels a dodle (so no scary moments like in 28 days later)
Dual fuel, can run on diesel syphoned from other cars or if you can get a fuel pump working, or veg oil from shops.
Able to easily do 600 miles on a tank, meaning you don't have to spend time out in the open filling it up every couple of hours.
I actually know how to work on a Xantia, I've no idea how to change the oil on a Hummer, or what type of oil it takes, or how often it needs changing etc.
Xantias are very comfortable! If I'm fleeing from Zombies, I don't want to be thinking "ouch this seat is playing havoc with my back"

What do you think?
Would you pick something different?
An old landrover defender perhaps?

Ok, but I'm not getting drawn into discussion about the undead OK! In our
declining state of affairs in Grim Britain, alternate worse case scenario's
do sound more plausible!

Didn't they use a DS Safari to get about in our broken world in the original
Day of the Triffids? A Xantia estate? I see no reason to use anything else
but wouldn't the already decayed roads even be passable 28 days later
even with oleopneumatics?

As Top Gear proved.....the Toyota Hilux

Indestructable and good over pretty much all terrain

Not sure how good on fuel they were though  maybe you could just carry loads with you in the back?
