Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The fuel gauge in my ZX TD has always been very pessimistic, and reads empty when there is still 10 litres of fuel in the tank - over 100 miles-worth. Is there any way that the sender unit or the gauge can be adjusted so that it more accurately reflects the state of the fuel reserves?

My old 1.4i ZX had fuel pickup problems when it was low. It once nearly left me on the M62 (after I'd only had it for 3 days!) and often wouldn't start when parked uphill - I'd have to roll it onto the road, where it would start straight away. Never managed to put more than 44 litres in it though! I've never forced the issue in the TD...

Hi all

I am currently useing a 1995 M reg, Xantia VSX Td.. However, it runs like new as far as the engine is concerned, but, however, when I stop the engine the car takes no more then 15 seconds to drop to the floor!!!

Its not a sudden drop, but just like I've put the suspension lever on low, and its only the rear that drops.

Hi .After changing my goosed a/c comp and getting it regassed , oops xantia 1.9td 1996. a/c engineer says one iv'e just fitted has a faulty clutch and there is no power going to the comp. When i disconnect the brown plug on the thermostat housing both fans run at low speed then the offside one stops as the near side goes to high speed . Any ideas...

chaps.. i am scared...

In the last few days, I have noticed a noise when I go over 2 of the 5 ramps in my street.. I finally raised the car and had a look.. with suspension fully up the exhaust main rear silencer is about 6 inches off the ground.. with the car back at normal height, it is about 1 inch ! :(

I haven't had the chance to look...

have just bought a 1995 citroen xantia 1.9lx td with 200k on clock.
I have noticed alot of problems with it, which i have read on the forum.

Problems- drivers seat wont stay up, speedo sticks at 50mph, key wont lock car, suspension at back wont lift, and most importantly the car is blowing out oil beside the timing belt, as i think the head...

Having just recovered from a head gasket failure, I now find myself with a whiffy smell of diesel and a small deposit of fuel under the car.

Are there any common areas for fuel leaks on the ZX TD?

If you have a Bosch pump its unlikely to be the leakoff pipes as the thing would get air in the fuel - bad starting etc.

It doesn't make any difference if you have a roto-diesel - favorite sems to be the end cap by the thermostat - I had 2 go in the last year - just noticed a smell and fuel running over the front of the engine. Have a good look...

I've got the factory manuals for the 93 model year car but my 1997 era
car has a different set up on the positive primary power box split beside
the battery and none of the wires bear any tangible similarity with what
the available diagrams tell me - does anyone have a scan/photocopy/pdf
of these circuits to help me nail my confounded dead VSX....

Ok off on holiday at Christmas :D , driving from Plymouth to Newcastle then ferry over to Norway. Then driving from Kristiansand to Vågå.

Can somebody advise me on how to fit a new Pollen Filter in a Citroen C5. Where is it located, and what do I have to remove to get out the old one?

in the passenger footwell bottom right a short plastic panel comes off (1 or two screws) the pollen filter slides under the heater unit and is held in by two screws.remove screws and filter slides out towards the footwell.

hi

just joined, need help already

i have a 1996 xantia 1.9 td

the brakes, steering and front suspension seems fine, the lhm is green and to its correct level, but recently the rear suspension completely sank when you raise the suspension to high it does not return, it remains high.

Yesterday I installed the HA2 ECU Phil Howard sold me and it works!

I am eternaly grateful to him, Mandrake, Andy and all the posters who helped me with the diagnose and fixing of the suspension.

Front Hydractive centre sphere ?

Yep. I have both hydractive spheres and rear antisink in the trunk, just had no time (and no decent lift) to change them.

The anti-sink sphere won't have an effect on this problem, but should be checked anyway, as it's important for rear brakes.

Either your accumulator sphere is almost flat, or there is high...

My lovely Xantia floated through its MOT this morning with only a couple of advisory notes, the usual faded front indicater bulbs, stone chip and perished front brake hoses. :D

At one point the tester thought I had an LHM leak on the rear height corrector until I showed him it was copious amounts of spray grease :lol:

Warning: (Early?) C3 lamps may have bad water seals! Last weekend I had the headlights off my C3 and brought them in to dry overnight only to find this weekend that they where full of water again :cry: On closer inspection the permanent sealing between the clear glass and the body seemed to be less than perfect and I think the assembly quality is...

Had the headlights off this weekend; turned out the faulty headlight was filled with water :shock: , possibly because I at some point had put the bulb lit on wrong (pretty easy to do :twisted: unfortunately )

It seams the motorized adjuster has seized, and I can't find a way to get it unstuck, so I had to put it all together again without fixing...

hi again,

all the lights work except the one behind the heating/ventilation/fan sliders and air con switch, they do flicker from time to time, so i guess there is a loose connection somewhere, i remember seeing the aircon one flicker more than the sliders ones,

does illumination to different parts of the dash/console come from different sources,...

Be careful taking out the double bulbholder!

It took me alot of manipulating and I had to move the sliders around a bit too to get it out.

Also if you take off the front slider display, you'll find the rubber strips keep falling out when you replace it.

I've just purchased a 1992 ZX turbo diesel for £307.99p!

It has 107000 on the clock and is in pretty good nick. The only fault I can find with it, is the blower sometimes loses it's heat when it's switched to the red/hot position. The water temperature guage stays just under the halfway mark normally and doesn't move much from there.

Here's a good one..... the driver's door on our ZX has decided not to open. Lock button is going up and down, but neither handle has any effect. I guess the lock mechanism has come adrift some how - easy enough to fix - IF I can get the door liner off with the door closed :roll:

Anybody had to do this - or know if it is even possible without...

I can confirm that you can - just - get the door panel off with the door closed. Had to remove the seat, sacrifice the speaker grille, and the speaker is not too clever now, but at least the door works again. Looks like the lock is worn out - the outside door lever is all bent, and was catching on the main part of the lock - hence the non opening....

Can anyone shed any light on what my Xantia fan is doing.

You turn the fan on and it blows as it should. However if you turn it off you can hear a noise coming from the dashboard that sounds like another fan that is not turning fast enough.

This noise is always there regardless of the fan speed and does not change in pitch or volume.

A new fan / sensor costs about £100. As a temporary measure you can hang the sensor out of the dash next to the heater controls where it functions OK. Mine's been 'temporary' like this for about 10 months / 20k miles now!

Hi people,

suddenly last night my suspension is playing silly games, i've not had much time to look at it much, but would like a quick opinion based on my symptoms before i do something silly/expensive...

started last night, and the back didn't got up (it is anti-sink, but it does sink about half way in about 30 seconds upon shutting the engine...

hi, i have recently boght a 2002 c5 hdi with 86000 miles on the clock, last week it lost power, it had blown the bottom hose off the intercooler, there is a lot of oil in the pipes & intercooler, does this mean my turbo is knackered? any help would be greatly appreciated,

ATF of ZF autoboxes MUST be changed every 30,000 miles.

I thought these units were sealed for life!

Aren't all ZF gearbox names in the following format:

(4) - number of speeds

HP - type name for all hydraulic transmissions

(20) Box model no.

Which means that things like AL4 are actually model numbers - which may cover tings like gear ratios - but the overhaul and general construction will be covered by...

I've recently bought a 02 Xsara 1.4 LX, after owning a mk1 Xsara 1.4. The PAS seems heavier on my new Xsara, noticed the mk 2's are fitted with wider tyres (195's). When the car is cold, the aux belt is squeaky when idling. It's not the screech you get from a loose or worn one though. It quietens down with a spray of WD40 for a day or so, then starts up again.

Is there a tensioner, and could it be the bearings? If so, what are these like to change? It's on a 1.9XUD by the way.

So, it looks like the centre reel is integral with the seat back, and the only way to fit it will be to get a seat out of an estate. Your guess is as good as mine as to whether the seats are interchangeable!

Hello all again,

Another saga concerning my heater blower.
One trip it works and the next it wont, it's not the ignition swich as it's bypassed.

The resistor pack is only a couple of years old so I'm hoping it's not that, but that also isn't likely to give an intermittent fault.

Any clues?

Thats the same problem i had and it turned out to be the brushes both was worn down approx 6mm left to the wire but 1 of them was burnt and course to touch,it also stuttered as if there was something stuck like a twig in the vains but got told by an electrician it was the motor on its way out.

Just had a new cambelt fitted but the top front cover is now damaged there is a hole the size of a 20p on top have put duck tape on to stop stones getting in but what i need to know is what year did they change covers from clip to bolt on type as this info would make it easier to to find 1.

Have tried to rewire the ignition switch with a relay as described in the forum. It does not work. When I measure the voltage on the switched feed I measure 12V+ but when attached to the relay I measure 0.127V. So looks like it is totaly gone. All that looks totally correct, so it must be the switch contact that can’t even handle the low relay coil current.
You can confirm that by jumping the switched wire 1 of the grey plug to #85.
If it then works, you can make a permanent fix of...

Got a problem which has developed with my Xsara 1998 1.9D in that when I want to wash the front windsreen it will only activate the rear wash....it doesn't activate the wiper (as in the 3 auto wipes) but it does activate the front wipers into their 3 auto wipes. thanks for that.....just had a real good go at it as it did seem to lose efficiency so I siphoned all the water out of the reservoir a couple of times and gave it a few minutes with a good solution of one of the limescale remover fluids. It seems to be back to its former self and power.
Stilll like to give it a proper once over in the summer.

Hi, I'm trying to replace the drivers side fog light bulb in my X-reg Xantia. Reading the Haynes manual it states I should remove the fog light external surround to remove the whole light unit to get to the bulb (which i believe was on the mk 1 and 2 Xantias). On my Xantia there is no surround to remove plus access to the fog light from underneath...

Easiest route to the fog lights on a Mk2 is to take the headlamps out and go in from the top. Not as bad as it sounds and certainly better than the method Citroen advise of removing the front bumper.

Hi, my Xantia SX estate 2000 model has a prob with the front electric windows (the back ones work fine), basically they don't work and the door switches on both doors don't illuminate to show they are active.
I reckon, and have been told, its the control switch so I followed the Haynes manual and removed the drivers door trim but there was no sign...

Not having much to do with the HDI engines, a mate just popped over and asked if I would have a look at his C5 HDI, I didnt look but I think it's a 2.2.

unlikly but what might have acured is the pump has been leaking so level has gone down and has been topped up without bleeding the system,hence trapped air maybe,to check for head gasket just crank it over stone cold with the cap off to see if the coolant eruppts or gasses up,you can only do this check with the engine stone cold

Does anybody know the size and type of bulbs used in the ZX? (mines a 1993 model). I need to replace them all (only one left) as I can't see the instruments at night. Indicators, brake & the like are ok, its the ones that illuminate the dash.

Took my '94 170k miles 1.8 8V petrol Xantia for MOT; fail.

1. New front disks & pads reqd, fair cop guv : Now replaced.

2. Emmissions:-

Fast Idle
CO <.30% actual 0.06%
HC <200ppm actual 105ppm

I have an M reg xantia 1.8i. The hydraulic pressure and fluid levels and the red stop light come on occasionally whilst I am driving but then goes off after a second. please could some one help with what I should be looking for. Check the top of your LHM resevoir. I had a problem with the seal on mine recently, and LHM was slopping out when I cornered hard. After a couple of weeks the contents would be low enough to trigger the STOP light. After manipulating the seal about I have cured the problem and it doesn't happen any more
