Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

cheers just had it out and i found that if you put it back with the spring on if you push it back on gently starting at 5 then 8 then 2 then 11 it clips home quite happily. I may just have been lucky though :)

Is it critical? I want to swap seats but the MK1 and MK2 wiring are different colours so not able to work out polarity. Having changed from OE connectors to deans plugs probably doesn't help either.

If I must observe polarity, can anyone please tell me which wire colour is which?

I have MK2 with
Grey seat wire to Green harness wire
Pink seat...

I bought a second hand 1995 Synergie SX which I bought second hand and have been cleaning it up. The alarm siren was switched off but the indicators worked as per the handbook when the alarm was armed.

I tried to turn the siren on and got the sound of a relay clicken on and off in the passenger footwell so I turned it back off.

I can give you a vague idea of where the siren is. It's on the passenger side near the bulkhead/wing area. Could be in the engine bay or under the wing.

As I said it's vague but I'm going from a diagram not from experience!

Does anyone have any info as to the dimensions of pipe needed to replace the brake pedal spring? I think 15mm is used so what length is needed?

I've got a huge amount of 15mm copper pipe left over from a recent plumbing repair (which also gave me an oppotunity to fit a tap so I now have water supply to the front of the house :D)

I'm curious and...

yes, unclip the pedal switch plug to allow the pedal to swing further back towards you and lever the assembly number 3 in the parts diagram out with a screwdriver carefully.
Once in your hand you will see how it comes apart to get the spring out Toby

I'm a satisfied Xantia 2.0 Hdi owner. Considering a change to the C5 1.6 Hdi. 2005 -2006 model. Has anybody any advice/comments to offer regarding this (1.6 Hdi) engine. Is it as trouble -free, and as reliable as the 2.0 Xantia Hdi ?

Hi folks my c5 has recently had new spheres fitted to the front due to hard bumpy rides,the front still stays low as it was before the spheres got changed,is it the sensor on the front?if so how do i locate it and get the front to be normal height?I have looked at other c5s and they sit a bit higher than mines at the front,

Hi folks my c5 was hard at front suspension,now replaced front spheres and it has done the job but the front end still sits a bit low,
I have parked next to other c5s and they have more gap between the tyre and wing,What do u think it is?

Where is the Xsara MK2 1.6i 16V headlamp washer fuse? Location, inside the car or the engine room?

I need this help for a friend of mine who broke one of the headlamp washer heads.
He would like to disable it by removing the fuse. No owner's manual :(

Hi, my Xantia td, The pipe from fuel pump into first injector is split ! by the fuel pump. Iam suprised to see the pipe is larger internally pump end.Is there a technical name for this pipe ? I have bodged it with tape for now,

By the sounds of it, if its a rubber pipe on the bottom of the injectors (and small pieces of the same pipe link the injectors) you just need a length of leak off pipe.

It will cause starting issues if its leaking. Its quite cheap to buy and just a push fit as its not under any real pressure. Note one injector (at least) has a 'cap' at the end of...

Thank you for your kind prompt, I fitted the origial seal incorrectly (on the sphere) that is why I fitted an O ring in the first place, it was only after I read on this site the correct way to fit a seal.

Hi guys, I am having an issue since replacing the 'electronic' Bosch diesel pump on my '99 'Xant 1.9Td.

On first trying to start it (after the transplant) the 'electronic ignition key' warning lamp came on and stayed on, accompanied by beeping noise :? .

Needless to say the car did not start either.. is this to do with the ECU not recognising...

thanks, so should all three solenoids have the pipe with the vacuum at tickover going to the 'in' port ?

Don't know but as the valve is only a two port on or off device wouldn't have thought it would make much difference.

I have a leak on the rear suspension, it appears to be coming from a plastic pipe on the nearside under the sub frame, is this a low pressure return pipe? any one with any experience of this?

I have a pipe that is under the radiator near to the passenger front side. It has a rubber tube around it for protection and I am fairly sure its a power steering pipe. It seems to go under and then join to a flexible pipe towards the centre. It is dripping and leaking a bit and I wanted to know how difficult is it to replace? The rubber tube is...

Well thats the rear calipers sorted on my2006 C5 estate, What a nightmare , Seal top of master cylinder, disconect brake pipe , remove long thin bolt holding pads in place, remove pads and replace bolt, undo the two bolts holding the caliper to the suspension arm , unbelievably tight due to the bolts being sealed with loctite. Hi guys,

Im not at work so dont have access to the Cit program. Is the brown switch above the front centre hydractive sphere block the rad fan switch on a 95 TD Xant?

My fans arent kicking in at all and i remember this switch being knocked loose in the attempts to crack the sphere off. It is still plugged in but it spins around when i presume...

Vince, as yours is a non-aircon model, you'll most likely find the thermoswitch in the rad is the culprit. They are terribly unreliable...

Easy to change it although you'll get a bit wet in the process...

I seem to have been on the Airbag Warning Light topic for far too long but now wires under the seats are soldered and still it keeps flashing :(

My auto electric chap tells me the the code says Squib and it is almost certainly something to do with the steering wheel.

Not sure how much they cost from main dealer so now looking for a second hand...

Hi,
After 8 fuel top ups, and I mean top ups- the fuel is seen at top of filler neck and stays at that level, the Xantia is averaging out at 45.56 to the gallon. I rarely go over 70 mph, keeping it at around 55-65. The car is de-catted, best thing I ever done.

Random tip: Smear a hint of copper grease onto the aerial threads before refitting, just a little bit. As its conductive it won't interfere with signal reception but should stop it seizing on. :)

Lucky though, they can snap. From memory the aerial 'base' part is cheaper than the 'mast'

After reading all the bits on here, I've found I have 3.5ohms across one fan but not the other. Please see picture for where the open circuit is.

So the problem lies between that terminal 5 contact, (where the relay sits) and the battery earth.
So it's an open circuit between 'fan-and-earth' or 'fan-and-relayboard' or 'both'... meaning...

Got to move my 2.1TD breaker as the wife wants the garden back. (Selfish of her I know :oops: )

Trying to take bits off it today, and have got stuck on the following.

I think its the Diesel pump, (But knowing my skills it could be the ABS unit :lol: :lol: )

I''ve disconnected all the pipework, and also removed the three bolts. It moved...

Dave, they may also be a 4th nut on the END of the pump body.. Im not familliar with the Lucas epic pump mounting but there is on the Bosch pumps...

Yes, it's the same as a Bosch Paul, three nuts on the flange (one inaccessible) and one on the end...

A 'half moon' spanner helps with the inaccessible one...

You'll need a puller like this...

I'm in the process of putting my Xantia back on the road (2000 reg1.8 16v SX) but the wheels are in bits.The first attempt at a diy refurb didnt end well , so I've been lookign at new wheels. Came across affordible sets of 15's and 17's. The tyres that come on the 15's are too low, sidewall wise so will be a bit too different in rolling radius to...

I recentley had the ABS warnig light come on and checked the circuit to find the right rear wheel was the problem (using a resistance meter), i believe i have fixed the problem/sensor fault, however the warning light is still on. Is there a way to reset this without using a Lexia/computer, or does it mean i have not fixed the...

If you take the car for a drive, once you go over i think it's 20mph the light will go off as long as it's getting a reading from all 4 sensors that matches.

Thats normal, as the car rises the rear wheels turn, so if you stop them turning by applying the brakes then the car can't rise.

Does anyone now where the relay for the aircon clutch is located on a c5 tourer? Is there a relay or is it an output from the ECU? Hiya fellas, long time no speaky! Right have a real problem. The hearter in the wifes Xantia is stuck on hot, slide switch has no effect. The blowers dont work either but I aint to bothered about that. She is off on Holiday with the kids tomorrow an 10.30 and its gonna be torture going to Somerset from Milton keynes with the heater stuck on hot in...

surely removing the fuse for the blower would be a quick bodge or do other important circuits use the same one

Even without the blower running there is still airflow as the car moves.

Well, finally decided to do the cambelt, waterpump and tensioner plus have a go at the alternator pulley - and then the brake pads for good measure.

Successfully negotiated getting the crank pulley and covers off and did the usual scraping of hands getting the engine lock in and the belt from under the engine mount (don't need to take the mount...

Thanks for the responses, guys. Paul was indeed correct - re-instating the crank pulley (only about 2 months old, as it happens) solved the problem. I think I was over-analysing the problem and had done that classic thing of not examining an earlier assumption regarding the bottom cover/pulley. Doh!

As for the alternator pulley, it's a tight...

After running the like an XM, but simpler :wink: up the road for inspection, I am convinced it's not kicking down properly. Seemed to downshift way too soon.

Can anyone offer pointers for setting this detail - is it a hard (inflexible) measurement?

Going to be making a start today on the XMs belts and will be replacing a couple of seals on the hydraulic pump while everything is off.
My query, when setting up for taking the belts off I stuck it up on service high, whipped the stands underneath then jacked up until the wheels where clear of the ground. When I come to take the hydraulic pump...

Hi,

I had a Bigas kit on my XM TCT. Ian Brierley owns it now.

A modern sequential multipoint would be nice on a V6. These take more fitting but provide better economy (maybe power) and don't spit back, that can cause damage. Such a kit will cost a lot even if DIY fitted. Be careful who you deal with, there's some real horror stories about...

The original Philips radio/cassette recently went bang and the bloke that fitted the new radio tells me that we need a new radio to aerial lead connector/adaptor as the new radio has a different one to the old one. Any ideas what it would be called or if it has a part number or something?. Thanks.

Agree try the usual accessory shops. I've had this on various makes, there are a few types of aerial plug, the very short one like a RCA / Phono plug (but not quite) and then at least two lengths of the more traditional plug.

As long as you know what the one on the car loom looks like and you can take the replacement radio with you so you know...

Hi - the missus opened the big sliding sunroof yesterday despite being advised not to!!. Yep, you guessed it,it wouldn't close again. When the switch is operated the roof will move forwards a couple of inches and then open fully again. I tried half a gallon of WD40 on the 'tracks' to no avail. This went on for some time causing my blood pressure...

Hi Guys

The old xantia's been running OK had to change clutch last year and the glow plugs right in the middle of winter and I did all 4 of them (hay-ho)

My problen now is LHM fluid is peeing out what looks like the base of the accumulator sphere? it's very difficult to see exactly where, anyone got any idea please

I have a 99 Xantia HDI 90 and have just got hold of a DTUK box very cheap.

The box is for a Siemens fuel system HDI but I have no idea how to check which system is in my car. :oops:

Yes thats correct, the lift pump is built into the main hp pump.
If its a xantia HDi then its bosch, siemens was never fitted to the xantia.

I recently blanked the egr valve off my 2004 C5 110 hdi, using a plate bought via ebay. The car ran better, however after the first journey (20 miles) the engine management light came on with the service light and the message 'anti pollution fault'. I have just connected my code reader and got the following codes:

the engine is back to standard and after several days there are no fault codes. However the juddering/shaking at tickover has now returned as it was before the egr was blocked (wasn't there with the egr blocked), what would cause this ?

What you really need is a Lexia to be able to read the associated parameters to find out what is doing...

Has anyone had to replace these, getting a bit of noise from the back over bumps, checked the trailing arm bearings which seem absolutely fine, but seems to be quite a bit of flex in the bushes.

have a look on the swinging arm,there should be a rubber pointing upwards either side that travel up on the arm. mine had one missing when I got a knockin noise over speed bumps.dead simple job, they just pop out and replace with new ones, not expensive either. I cant check proper as I sold my c5 with gritted teeth as we needed more seats and went...

The BoL says that it should be F7 but the board layout shown does not look at all like the one in the car. F7 is OK. The front socket seems to have no power. I haven't noticed that anything else is not working.

Any thoughts?

Solved!
Well as we couldn't say which fuse to look at I resorted to checking every fuse in sight. It turns out to be one of the larger size fuses in the glove box. There are just 3, 2 x 30 amp and one x 20 amp. It is the 30A one in the middle. You need a meter to tell it is blown as unlike the smaller fuses you can't see the conductor.

I have been changing the glow plugs on my van (with a 2.0 hdi). 3 went ok however the one nearest the cam cover is very hard to turn and just clicks when trying to loosen it (seams to turn with difficulty but isn't coming out) - have tried wd40 etc, now i'm getting worried it might break ?

any ideas how to get it out in one piece ?

Probably a reeeeeeeeealy simple fix,wrong setting etc. I'm rubbish with radios, I'm happy if I've got my local Pulse Bradford,Real, and some easy listening stations..oh, and my 6 cd changer jobby,that'll do me :lol:

Apart from looking like something pushed out by a small canine, this solid plug of brown stuff was clogging one of the intermediary hoses between trans cooler and the main coolant lines. It took serious pressure to expel it (my local town water is quite good for backflushing engines)...

Hi folks,

Have a bit of an issue, while not paying attention and talking while lying under the car to do an oil change I managed to undo the drain nut on the gearbox. No problem I thought to myself, sure it probably hasnt had an oil change before anyway so I went and got myself a couple of litrs of gearbox oil and set about reading the haynes...

Just a quick one, can series 1 Xantia door cards be fitted to a series 2 car? If so what modifications need to be made.

From what I can tell the door armrest screws are in different locations.

No robert... Leave them.. Just drill a 4mm hole at the end so the screw will self tap and tighten into it... Thats all... Im sure the other one lines up ok...

ok guys bit of a prob with my car 1997 td xud.... put svo in last week did over 800 miles at weekend car ran fine .... b/f went shopping on wednesday evening car stalled on him twice it will start again but struggle ... managed to get it back home started it today idles fine but as soon as you rev it to 3000rpm the revs drop and it stalls.......

DHallworth has been helping me play around on the lexia to get rid of this annoying economy mode problem.
In the lexia menu it staes that economy mode is set to 30m however I want to try changing it but it is asking for a code? any ideas what code this is?

Also I hoped we could turn off the wheel pressure sensors, any ideas how we do this?...

It's sounding very similar in traits to a Xsara I am grappling with - on and off - at present. In that case, having seen the fault logs I suspect there may be a shorted diode in the alternator.

Your dealers could also do some simple tests such as current draw at rest, and looking at the voltage waveform when running, rather than just playing...

I discovered that when I got to work this morning that I had a flat tyre. Anybody's guess when it lost it's air but as the screw in the tyre was from work I would guess during the night.

Not a problem - other that the cost of replacing an almost new tyre. Just pop that wheel off and bung the spare (never used) on.

All went as well as could be...
