Rear window problem

Post by isisalar »

The nearside rear window on my xantia estate seems to have detached itself from the regulator, which sounds like it's working fine. I've wedged the window up for now and assuming that it's likely to be a clip broken I've been doing a bit of e bay research this afternoon and it would appear that there's a rubber grommet and wire clip arrangement.( it's a mk2) They're available locally for about £4.(genuine parts)
Is this the likely culprit?
Anything else to consider?
This will not be the first time I've taken off one of the door trims, thanks to mr Haynes, but following the instructions has consistently resulted in the lock/unlock buttons at the top of the trim not fitting back properly. Anyone know the correct procedure?
Kind regards
Paul

The lock button is a tricky one but I have them down to an Art, as long as the button was NOT ripped off in the first place, the grips wear off easilly..

Yes its likely to be the clip, Ive not experianced them failing myself, but it seems a common thing if the motor and wire is all there and working... or the cables have snapped.

As for the button. Make sure the inner "Grip" is in the LOWER position. Theres two small holes... fit the botton to the door and make sure the metal "lever" is in the button correctly. Now I use the edge corner of a Stanley blade.. Push the grip upwards and push the "Lock" tab past the lower hole upwards... now with the sharp edge of the blade in the UPPER small hole keep pulling the grip upwards till the lock tab clips into the upper hole... this is the Grip position... So if the plastic grip teeth are any good it should work perfectly now. If theres any wear on the grips, then its, good bye get another.. :) :) :)

Many thanks for that citroenxm, very useful.
It would seem that preserving the grips on the button is key, any tips on the best removal method?
kind regards

Removal in reversal.. press the lock tab in when its in the upper position and then slide it downward before ANY attempt to pull the button from the door...
