Citroen C5 2002 Hatchback

Post by MaxPrimal »

Hi guys,

I just bought a 2002 C5 hatchback to replace my Nissan Primera after the part of the engine decided to take a trip out the bottom of the casing :(

I got a 2002 2.0l (petrol) Exclusive 16V Auto - as my wife can only drive automatics annoyingly - and am reasonably impressed with it but 2 things I want to check:

1) When the suspension raises and lowers when you get in/out of the car, it seems to squeak. It passed an MOT on Friday without any issues on the suspension but I also know it is one of the areas to keep an eye on. What is the likely cause of this squeaking? It doesn't seem to harm the ride of the car at all. Just kinda annoying.

2) For whatever reason Citroen did not fit a rear wiper to the C5 it seems, despite being a hatchback. Is there any way to retro-fit a wiper to the car at all as this is REALLY bugging me, it's the first car I have had since the Morris Marina my dad bought me when I passed my test not to have one (and that was over 20 years ago!).

Is there anything else I should be checking or need to watch on the car?

Thanks
Max

hi Max and welcome..

yes the rear wiper is a big pain.. wonder if a slightly newer hatchback door could fit, with wiper on? ,, the electrics / stalk may give some headaches.. but even a manual on/off switch would be better than nothing.. others will have better ideas

If you think the lack of the rear wash wipe is a PITA wait until you lift the tailgate when its raining and water pours into the boot from either side, now that IS annoying. :?

I've checked this a few times and never had water run into the boot, it is just caught by the channels and drained away.

It was one of the problems with the earlier SAAB 900 Turbo. The spoiler used to catch it and dump it into the boot. My mates used to laugh themselves silly over it (Swedes) except for the one who bought one (but he was Danish).

A rear wiper was fitted a S1 VTR models, which are from 2003-2004. You could, in theory, replace the bootlid with one from one of those and you'll have a rear wiper. As its all 'plexed the wiring should be part of the bootlid loom. However you will need to replace the wiper stalk and have it programmed with a Lexia to let the car know it has a rear wiper. A bootlid from a C5 later than mid 2004 (a facelifted C5) will not fit.

Mine all do this too, I've never had the water go inside the car on any of the C5 hatchbacks.

Regarding the squeak, if its coming from the rear of the car it could be the trailing arm bearings although not necessaraly, if its at the front could just be noisy struts.
