Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Having previously owned an e30 325i (170bhp 2.5 inline 6pot), I'm wondering whether an Activa would closely match my needs, I miss my old 325, but one of the many reasons of not buying another one is the fuel consumption. SO...

I know the Activa has 150bhp and is probably lighter, so power to weight ratio would be good, how solid is the engine on...

Well, I'm sure you'll be pleased to know that my plans to leave french cars in favour of a Rover 420sdi have suffered a setback caused by my purchase of what may be another ebay bargain ( 3 of 3 now ) - a 405 STDT estate !

Needless to say, the 2.0 GTX estate will soon be up for sale. A shame because it's a great car, but I simply can't afford £15...

Went shopping today, the price of veggie oil has suddenly shot up from 35p a litre to 50p a litre in both Aldi and Asda.

By the time you add fuel duty (as we all do), that destroys the financial incentive to be eco-friendly.

At the auction in Chesterfield tonight, there was a nice looking 405 (curved dash) petrol which only bid to about 150.

There was also ( which I had my eye on ) a 5dr ZX 1.9D - very good condition internally and externally - pretty new tyres all corners, spare unused, clean, straight, two lady owners, plenty of mot.

They came around to starting...

I asked the guy to pop the bonnet, I undid the radiator cap - the car enthusiastically responded by washing my hands, mouth, nose and glasses with high pressure coolant :o ( it was coolant, not water, and luckily it was cold !).

Needless to say, soaked, I put the cap back on, shut the bonnet, and let the driver take it into the hall, and it bid...

As we are moving soonish i am thinking of getting rid of my bx estate(1.9d na) as i will have to spend more time on the m/way.
so i`d like something quiter and more able to cope with modern traffic.
the budget is probably what i can get for the bx(2-300) +400ish.
my list is vw passat,xantia or zx all non estate versions.
i like the first not sure...

the build quality of the BX might not be as high as the XANTIA but a BX is easyer to mend and far less complicated,you oviously are not driving it right if its not keeping up with modern traffic,my daugters dersh keep up and its only gas flowed 602cc,BXCLUSIVE for ever

I did't go stainless on the xantia but I've just picked up the xsara after having a full system fitted by longlife in leeds.

Service was excellent and the exhuast looks really good. They have my recommendation.

did you know there are industry standards being rolled out for automotive technicians? Its a bit like corgi register for our plumber but for cars.Each technician will be assesed for skils at 3 posible levels,service,diagnostic and master technicians.with modern day cars getting more complex i see this is a good idea as far too many people work on...

modern day cars are more complex ,but when they go wrong you need to know the systems ,water in electronic units is the worse you would not beleive the greif that causes and how long it takes to find.i see maim dealers having 2 parts to a workshop one side doing routine servicing and the other doing diagnostic work.

The two (2) locating dowels will now be made of 416 stainless steel. That way, nobody will have to be concerned about corrosion.

how easy is this? Ok here's a scenario:
I have a policy with the AA (fortis), and i'm gonna buy a new car, not sure which car i will buy, i finally decide to buy one say 250miles away, is it possible to call the AA, give my policy number and say, can you change the car to this now ?? what happens then... do they say yes sure, it will be £40 more...

Anyone fitted an Ipod to a car and managed to use the steering wheel controls to change tracks? I'm using a Sony head unit with 10cd autochanger and i'm thinking of changing to an Ipod. Yesterday I saw (on T.V) a advert for the new VW Jetta. Is it me or do I seem to be having a case of deja vu as im sure that its been round before........No wait it has been round before :lol: :lol:. The colour is a brilliant lovely lightish blue, really really nice. (Its not a Citroen though).

Hi

My parents have a 2004 Mondeo.

The car came with 2 x keys.

On the Ford PATS transpomder immobiliser system you need 2 x coded keys to code any more keys to the car, If you don't have 2 x coded keys & you need another key coded its then an expensive trip to Fords

So I advised my mother to get another standard key cut & I would code it...

Ok, so one of my hair brained ideas ( which will never actually happen :? ) is to put a 1.9TD engine into an Activa - that way you get reasonable performance, much better economy, and 1.9TD engines are easier to find than 2.0T's !

If you REALLY wanted a 1.9TD activa, I would have thought the easier way to do this would be to buy a LHD 1.9TD activa on the continent (that model exists in LHD) and import it to the UK. Then, either drive it as a LHD, or use parts from a £30 scrapper car to convert it to RHD (not as hard as you might think)

Alternatively, buy a 1.9TD model, and...

Only occurred to me yesterday...
If a Diesel will run on veg oil, and heating oil is the same as DERV, will a central heating boiler run on waste veg oil?
Any heating engineers out there?

Home heating oil is 28 second viscosity, and is not dyed. It has far less lubricity than road diesel, and (slightly) lower calorific value.

There are two types of home heating oil, one is pretty much the same thing as paraffin and the other is the same as red diesel. Red diesel isn't very commonly...

Slightly relates to French Cars :lol:

How many use the A1 between Pontefract and Wetherby in North Yorkshire and how many have driven through the newly opened A1(M) Holmfield Interchange at Pontefract???

Yes, I read yesterday the latest information from the HA regarding the installation of traffic lights on slip roads, basically its a case of moving the jam somewhere else.

These were tried all over the M27. Not only did they mean that you couldn't gain speed on the sliproad ready to joint the motorway, but they also caused loads of accidents...

Hi chaps!

Can someone tell me if i can use petroleum (usually pink coloured myways, lamp use), on a modern 2-stroke engine?
I have an old sprayer we used to use for treating vines that starts on petrol, then we change it to petroleum for economical reasons.
As i say petroleum i could also say biodiesel,/veggie oil...

When my parents first built their house they didn't have mains electricity so they used a diesel generator with a Lister / Petter engine. They managed to break 2 crankshafts, some of that was caused by an alignment problem and...

Can anyone give me any advice about how to get started MIG welding?
Do I need to get on a course, or would I be safe enough getting a MIG, a book, and teaching myself?
I tried getting on a course of nightclasses at my local FE college (Bradford College), but it was full, and I understand all the places get taken up by apprentice mechanics/bodyshop...

I think I can be confirmed as a fruit loop for sure now. I've just added a 1978 Peugeot 104 GL to my ranks.

my first ebay purchase of a car, took the gamble without seeing it, and its payed off. Bit tatty in places, namely two small holes to weld but seems solid enough. One owner from new, and loads of tell tell signs of a previous loving...

Years ago back in about 73 or 74 I'm sure that a mate of mines father had a soft top version. Light blue, 2 door +boot. I may be getting mixed up with something else but I know for definate his Simca 1100 rotted in to dust by 79. Broze colour now just part of the earths crust.

Hi All,

Was just wondering if all of the stuff spark plug manufacturers pump out about their premium ranges was true?

EG Bosch Super4 plugs - Are they really going to do what they say, IE improve fuel efficiency etc? Considering we arn't talking performance cars here...

If only this had been done for the Crazy Frog then it certainly would have made a lot of people happy. :D =D> 8)

This is because although the Citroen advert was shown a few times. It didn't match the amount of times that Jamster wanted the Crazy Frog shown, I.E. every single advert break.

Was anyone else up at 1-2am last night?! Brilliant programme on Men and Motors channel about the Plymouth to Dakar rally. It was about a rally from a few years ago I think.
Anyway, one of the cars was a BX! H reg. I didn't see it at the end of the programme, so I don't know if it made it or not, does anyone know?

After months of telling my wife that the ZX TD WAS the car for her,& the fact that she then wanted a ZX TD :D ,she sees a Astra TD & falls in love with it :x .Ok,so its got the toys,P/S,E/W,C/L etc,but shes only had it a week,& so far its had a new battery,new glow plugs & a service.It would`nt start,so she flatten`d the battery trying.KILLED IT!...
