Not necessarily, this phenomenon has been mentioned on here before!
There were quite a few series 1 Xantias registered long after the facelift model was officially introduced, well into 1999 & even a few in 2000.
Presumably they were old stock??

I've seen quite a few '97 and '98 Mk1's - maybe it's been sat at the back of a distributor's yard somewhere.

Any buyer with half a brain would get a HPI done anyway to ensure it wasn't a ringer.

Being sold by a trader I suspect, since there are trade plates on the rear parcel shelf in a couple of the photos.

It's quite an early car though - no passenger air bag or immobiliser. Be interesting to know what the RP number is.... Either it's a ringer, or it sat around for a loooooong time before it was registered.

looking at the wheel i think it does have an airbag, and keypad immobiliser, still ive not seen one on a w plate.

Well, just to disagree with both of you....

It doesn't have the keypad immobiliser, instead it seems to have a blue fag packet where that should be. The steering wheel does look like the airbag type that both of mine have.

Cars sold after '97 are supposed to have immobilisers, since this one doesnt, how can it have an 'W' plate, perhaps if they turned the 'W' upside down it would be more accurate :P

MK1 diesels didn't, only the petrols had the keypad immobiliser.

From 97 P reg the diesels got the keypad immobiliser too, I think it coincided with the ECU being fitted to the 1.9TD.

The fag packet isn't where the immobiliser should be, The immobiliser should be in the bin.

ECU has nothing to do with the keypad immobiliser on the TD, Its the fuel pump solenoid hidden behind its steel security shield that's immobilised.

That W reg Xantia must be very old stock, no passenger airbag fitted & the grab rail thingy instead.

Maybe it got lost in a compound, has happened to Vauxhall before, they found a brand new unregistered & forgotten about mk3 Astra van when they where doing a stock check a few years back, think Auto Express reported that & had a piccy too lol

Isn't that when the saloon got the facelift (i.e. MK2)? With the estate in 98?

The mkII facelift was early '98 for both the saloon & estate, the pre facelift models were sold alongside it for a while - quite a while by the looks of that one!
