I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

hi,
we have a renault scenic 1.6 fidji 03 plate.......when the r/c/l/ is operated it is making a squealing sound,this is coming from the lock on the fuel cap. I locked and unlicked it with the cap open and it spins the bolt out into place, when unlocking,it spins back in but is very juddery and sometimes didn't fully come out,meaning the cap...

blinking being the oprative word,

which ever direction the indicator stalk is set it indicates left,

hazards work as they should with and without the ignition on,

i fitted a new OE stalk today and they worked as they should whilst testing them several times, with and without the engine running,

then a bit later on i turned the car round...

i agree and understand all you say,

the plug in question is about an inch by 3/4 of an inch square and has 4 rows of 8 pins, so this makes them very small in diamiter although they are quite long for there size,

the plug is locked into the socket with a clamp that swings over the back of it,

Had a funny one yesterday, my indicators stopped working as I was driving along the road... Didn't think anything else of it as I was nearly at my destination.

Upon returning to my car, the engine wouldn't turn at all, no clicks, nothing.

Called the RAC, and it was a wire that'd come adrift on the Starter motor that caused the indicators to...

Laguna reversing lights

My car is a 56 plate 1.9DCI Sport Tourer. Recently the reversing lights would only work intermittantly, I know this cos' I reverse daily up to my garage door, now they've stopped working alltogether :roll:

20W-50 is perfectly good and that’s what was recommended back then.
It’s actually out of the question to use a thinner oil, the engine will smoke it.
I was in Belgium with a Renault at that time and used 20W-50.
If the engine is consuming oil from worn rings or valve stem seals, 30W-40 or 30W-50 will do.

hi all, a friend spoke to me on the weekend about an Immobiliser problem on his Dci van.. he is desperate to get it back on the road as it's his income..
A main stealer and another specialist have so far failed to get it running.. it's been some weeks now...

Scenic auto wipers

The missus has a 2005 Grand Scenic.It was before they made changes to the wipers so each time you start the car you have to knock the wipers of then back to auto to enable the auto function. Does anyone know if this can be changed with a software upgrade so it can be left permenantly on? Or is it a hardware change for the facelift?Cheers

Depends how soon the engine was stopped - or how long the oil light if at all came on...

Doesnt sound good though, normally when DCi turbos go they fill the engine with oil and hydralock up...

Id be prepared for the worse :-(

Friend and I have just 19 8 valve convertible to do Scally Rally Europe in.

440000 mile new head gasket and timing belt drives really well.

Any advice on what we should look for common faults etc to look for before we use it would be most grateful.

Hi, one of my neighbors has a Y reg clio and it wont start, He's had someone round to look at it and they've said it's the key not connecting with the immobilizer.
Does this sound right?

They've paid a deposit for new keys and now they're ignoring their calls.

Bought a towbar from a guy which is made by A1 Towing of Sheffield, and is an RT823 made for a 1997 to Sep 2003 Scenic, excluding the RX4. ( It came off his Mothers car.) My car is a 2001 Alize so it fits within the model period.

Got it onto the car, but it would seem that it sits too low,...

It wasn't damp conditions, can't remember what the ignition problem was now but have a vague idea that it was mechanical, possibly something with the distributor.

my mrs has a 1.6 fidji 03 scenic. the rear electric windows are really dodgy so we don't use them anymore. they come down ok,but it takes an age to get them to go up. The worry is,eventually they won't and we will be stuck with the windows open so like i say, we leave them closed.Will this be a case of the motors both had it? if so, are they...

It is usually caused by loose connections under the front seats. Feel in under both seats and disconnect and reconnect the plugs. Should do the trick!

On our Scenic it's at the bottom of the passenger side door mirror.
Ours failed last year and I was quoted a silly price for a replacement part from the main stealers, so opted for the scrap yard route. Picked up 2 sensors for £1.
It's still working now and the temperature reads the same on the scenic as it does in the Leon that we own.

There appear to be 3 versions of the 1.5 dci engine, 65bhp, 80bhp & the rare 100bhp one, for the model that i'm interested in.

Is the engine identical? & if so, howcome theres such a difference in the horsepower, is it just electronic jigery pokery, or are the internals & turbos different?

Which engine is the most reliable, i've heard of...

I have been asked how much to do a Cam belt and water pump swap on an 02 1400cc 16v Scenic Petrol.

Anyone here done a 1.4 16v belt job? Easy? Hard? Any pointers.

Do these engines have cleaver timing Pins to lock the cams and crank?

I've had a quick look at this belt, wouldn't say it's particularly hard it just needs a methodical ordered approach to tackling it, ideally you need special locking tools for the camshafts but I've done Audi V's by marking pulley positions with Tipex 'up to you,' seems like the crankshaft pulley could be a bastard to come off, I'd probably loosen...

scenic non starter

ive got a 99 v reg scenic, went to it this morning , started fine, pulled it off the drive on to the road, went back to it 5 mins later and it wont start, immobiliser light is flashing with the ignition turned on, so i think its that thats playing up, does anybody have any solutions? thanks

im still scratching my head with this 1, i bought an ecu/uch and key fob from ebay, fitted it, and the car started :D it started a couple more times, THEN the dreaded immobilliser started flashing again, and now it wont start again, im running out of ideas now :( any suggestions anybody???? thanks

Anyway, when I bought the car it had a aftermarket button sitting in the little groove under the steering wheel with 2 wires connected which go directly to the starter motor, this is because the start button doesn't work.

I can't make too much comment on the Laguna as I've never owned nor' wanted a Renault. I only got a Citroen cos' it was cheaper than 400 Marlboro!

The temperature issue is more than likely the thermostat stuck on cool. A new one is probably less than a tenner and take about an hour to change...

Give this place a try:

They usually have a good stock of cars, im sure they can sort some wheels out.

Be careful though, if your Scenic should come with alloy wheels and its wearing steels when its assessed that might effect your insurance claim.

It might not, as its not been in a crash but it might be worth thinking about, as it seems...

if so this a cmmon fault but it sounds likeits not too late to be saved cheaply you can buy a new plug from renault for around £40 and simply remove the old one and splice the new one on. let me know if this is the case and ill give instruction on how to do it.

Hi, spotted a 1988 1.1 litre car for sale. It has done 99,000kms and it is up for sale at 1,500 euros.

Can anyone give me some advice about what to look out for specifically on these cars? It seems to be in good condition body wise and the engine doesn't show any leaks apart from a small water leak from one of the hoses.

my father had a few Renault 4s he was always worried about he timing chain because you either remove the engine or cut a hole in the floor to access it, but one problem he did have was the bolt that holds the gear bar onto the selector inside the gear box worked its way loose and fell into the gears, very expensive at the time to fix

Hi there i have a laguna 1.9dci been having problems for the past few days now, whats happening is when you start the car the heater gets warm after a few minutes, then drops cold. replaced the thermostat and checked for blockages in the heater matrix. everything is clear and the water is clear. Im thinking it could be that the water pump is on...

sounds like a water pump to me, when your driving the pump spins faster pushing the water around the engine with greater force than when idling, it is also possible that it could be a blockage but i reckon its a worn pump.

does the temp gauge drop along with the heater temp

Hi Guys,

my first Renault last week...multiple issues, so i'll try and be blunt.

It is very sluggish from a standstill/changing up through gears and doesnt want to get up to 70. Changed plugs and leads, no difference, throttle cable had around 40mm of slack, replaced (PITA) no difference...no EML on...Should i suspect coil? runs ok, eating...

Is it possible to read stored error codes on a 98 1.9 Diesel Megane MK1

If yes what type of code reader should I be looking for. I have an old ELM327 would that do the job.

And lastly if yes where is the socket hidden on the MK1.

I've tried the ELM327 on a Kangoo 1.9D, the same engine I believe. I used Torque for my Android handset. It didn't work unfortunately, as Renault often use propriatary protocols that off the shelf software doesn't understand. My Clio is the same, although it worked great on a Kangoo with the DCi engine. I think you will need a specific Renault...

for the age of it (mines the same, so not being cheeky), i would use celly paint, or acrylic plus celly paint (carplan do some). Its not the greatest, but its a doddle to use, and cheap as well. taking the time with the prep, plenty primer, flatten between coats, and loads of fine coats of paint will bring a good result. Lacquer for a shine....

My son has a Mk1 Megane 1.9 DTi 1998

When he first turns the ignition on the trip indicator displays a row of zeros on the first row and Oil on the second row.

Is this the service indicator, if its not what is it, if it is how do I re-set it.

Is there anything that could be killing throttle Position sensors on my Megane or is it just bad luck that I have had 2 go wrong in a matter of weeks.

The car is a 98 Megane 1.9 Diesel

Symptoms of fault

Engine runs and ticks over but there is no response from the trottle, I changed the trottle position sensor on the throttle pedal and...

Just a quick update

It now turns out its not the Pedal Position Potentiometer at fault but something else that unfortunatly is intermitent so is getting rather difficult to diagnose, not helped by the rubbish circuit diagram in the Haynes Manual.

So bow I have two pots and a fault that is sometimes there and sometimes its not, this is proving...

Started to check the glow plugs today as it took a couple of winds to fire it up. Disconnected a lead off one of the heater plugs, got a voltmeter and connected one lead to earth of car and the other lead to the glow plug lead, although the ignition was off it was showing 10 volts,...

Bit confused about your reply, so what you say is when I replace the lead onto the heater plug although the circuit is now complete and 10 volts is passing through the plug it won't heat up even with the ignition off and key out and drain the battery? Ingenious these French.

Last MOT there was an advisory re worn outer anti roll bar bushes on daughters Clio.
Had a look underneath to see what part I would need, I assumed it would be the bushes that attach the roll bar to the bottom suspension mount just behind the front discs.
Went to get them at local factors and they said no its the bushes that hold the roll bar to...
