Is it a Scenic II, based on the Megane with the big rear end or the old shaped Megane, as 2003 was the changeover date for I and II and they differ quite a lot.
If its the newer style, there are many things to look out for. Small electrical faults and glitches with the electronic dash display are not unknown. Keep an eye on rear tyre wear as they usually toe in. Check for crunching on the gearbox, especially when going into 2nd gear. Regular services and a full history is a must on the 1.9DCi.
1.9DCis suffer for problems, the renault forum is a great place to gather info on them. Things from engine bearings failing, turbos being starved of oil making the turbo fail, sometimes in a very spectacular way.
However, many 1.9DCis do run and run if they are well looked after, though it does seem to be a bit like pot luck.
We used to have a 53 plate 1.9DCi version, it was a very nice car, engine performed great and gave 50MPG. I still really like the cars, nice inside, i even like the styling. Though ours was not fault free, bought it at a year old, its rear tyres lasted about 19K miles, the gearbox was startin to crunch when going into 2nd, the clutch was groaning and numerous other electrical issues - sold it with 25K miles .... if someone asked me to recommend one, I couldn't. I most likely make them sound worse than they are, its just info ive gathered from our experiences and others. Ive always wanted a LagunaII, would need to be a diesel and so the 1.9, so ive done a good bit of research into them and was put off.
Im not sure about running one on bio though.
If its the older shape, i believe they are better and more reliable too.

Ah thats good news then
We did have a 2001 Scenic RX4, but it was with the 2.0 16 petrol not the 1.9DCi 105. Great car and actually the first shape scenic is better in practicality and build than the later ScenicII. The RX4 was very reliable, it was only sold as Renault didnt fit any brakes to the 2.0 versions, only the diesel ones got those!
I believe the 1.9 as used in the ScenicII is a more reliable unit, but don't know much about those.

V6 Laguna II for the weekend, Chris. A cracking car!Ive always wanted a LagunaII, would need to be a diesel and so the 1.9, so ive done a good bit of research into them and was put off.
The Scénic I is a great buy, and a much more reliable car than the Scénic II. To be honest, there aren't many issues to look out for at all, other than the usual second hand car stuff. We get loads in work, and I really haven't noticed anything that plagues the Scénic I, whereas I could make quite a lengthy list about the Scénic II.
What trim level is it?
French is best.
