Thanks for acting so promptly though reading up about this in more detail I think another patch will be due soon because a company called Chainguard broke an embargo with The PHP Foundation and released the patch 6 hours earlier thus giving hackers access to the patch before a dedicated deadline that had been agreed by TPHPF.

My wife was going to work when it just stopped and wouldent start at all.
Turned out that 3 wires had been damaged and had to be replaced along with the stop solenoid.....that cost £70.
It was ok for 2 days then it went belly up again and the ignition switch packed in and burnt the starter motor out....

My father has just bought a R reg Pug 306 Estate and is planning to takeout the 1.9D engine and replace it with the 1.9TD out of his recently written off ZX.
I have heared some rumbilings that it wont fit because the engine mounts are different?
Is there anything i need to look out for?

306 suspension grease points

Many years ago one trick we used to do with the proper mini's 11/1300's (remember them!) and metro's was to drill a hole and attach a grease nipple to the rear suspension arms of the mini, and then fill with grease to prolong the bearing life.
I think this trick will also apply to any vehicle with a trailing arm set up, any thoughts?.

See if you can get your car up on ramps and check the linkages going from the bottom of the gear lever running forward to the gearbox. Can't remember the exact setup on the 306 but on my last 106 I had a bush pop out and gearchange was very difficult until it was fixed. They deteriorate after a while and not too difficult to replace with new ones...

I would suggest a local motor factor for the hose if it standard internal diameter.
Some hoses on peugeots have different internal diameters at either end!, so it is wise to check this out. The simplest method is insert a bolt of a known diameter into the hose to check the internal diameter.
Other than the motor factors look for the peugeot owners...

I need the thin long one which goes from the expansion tank to the radiator, and a rubber hose which goes from the metal section above the crankshaft pulley to behind the block.

I had a similar fault with the central locking on my 306 (P). It was being caused by a power supply cable being broken. Took me ages to track down as the cable was broken in the loom between the drivers door and door frame. However, managed to get enough cable to put a splice in and no problems since.

Sounds like a pin hole leak in your matrix.. Try Fortes radiator sealer first before you get into the more difficult solutions. And make sure you keep the coolant level high, you DONT want to get air in the system!

Not sure about 405's, but the radio fuse on a Xantia can be in 2 positions; one is for ignition feed, the other for permanent feed. Look for a spare half slot (so the fuse can be moved half it's length) next to the radio fuse in the fusebox.

First things first, check connections. Removing the instrument panel isn't difficult, so you could take that out and check all the multiplugs are firmly seated. Then check the connection to the sender - the contacts could be dirty so give them a squirt of WD-40 and then try.
If all the connections are good, I'd suspect the sender as the newer...

Hi ,
I am allmost certain that the springs holding the brake shoes together are too weak and are not returning fully after you have pressed the brake.Make sure there is no traces of grease or brake fluid on brake linings.

Then when I go forward one rear wheel locks (NSR).
Pressing the brake pedal again and releasing frees the wheel.

205 front anti-roll bar - help

For anyone needing to tackle this job:
I drilled rubber of the offending bush to get the suspension arm off the roll bar.
It left a metal sleeve, which was causing the problem, which I eventually got off with mole grips after heating and drilling.
There's no way the roll bar would come out without dropping the subframe - despite what Haynes says,...

I'm trying to take off my bottom suspension arms on my 205D to renew the bushes - but one of them won't come away from the anti-roll bar.
The securing nut is off, but the old bush in the suspension arm seems fused to the bar, and when I push/turn/wallop it, the rubber in the bush soaks up all the force.

the wheel studs you need have slightly concave washer (held on the bolt) as a head and they dont have any taper on them at all. the thread is 25 mm long but im not sure of the thread profile. I can send a picture on the weekend if you stil need help.

What type of pump do you have, it will be either Bosch or Lucas DPC AKA CAV Rotodiesel
Are the fuel and air filter's ok and the stop solenoid has a good connection?

306 radio removal

Haynes manual refers to a couple of removal tools.
They are like flat strips of metal 15mm wide with a 7x6mm hole 6mm from end. It appears they are pushed between radio bottom and facia and locate in the radio bottom at the same time as releasing a couple of clips.
Then using these strips, you SHOULD be able to pull and release the radio.

306 Steering rack

Hi,
I have wear at the inner end of the track rod arm (inside the gaiter) on my '95 306 XS.
Is it possible to replace the bearing/balljoint on the inner end or is it a case of replacing the whole steering rack?

SORTED! Turns out to be........the engine mounts causing the exhaust to flex. Adjusted the clutch a few times but no difference to the noise. I knew there was a lot of vibration of the engine - started off by replacing the enginge mount at the front right - by the timing belt/beside the coolant expansion tank. Is the car used for just short journeys if so it might just be a build up of condensation in the engine due to the fact that the engine doesnt get hot enought to steam the water off. Otherwise it sounds like the headgasket, check the coolant for signs of oil. If its the tu engine they reknown for popping the headgasket between the main oil way and...

Have you checked the fuses? Either the diagram on the fuse box lid or your owners manual will tell you what ones to check.

The rear lights on my peugeot 306 (1996) have stopped working, when i turn on the side lights the dash board is illuminated but no lights work. when i turn on the ignition the front side lights come on but not the rear, all other lights in the rear clusters work.I have checked all bulbs and cleaned all the contacts.

i know with older diesels its ok if u put a little petrol in, a couple of litres or so. It is even supposed to help clean injectors like some of these additives u can buy as well as helping the car start a little bit quicker. As such as long as it is a small amount and theres lots of diesel in the tank its ok. But as for a newer hdi engine i cant...

New to this forum though I have had the Pug 106 1500 1996 Diesel for 5 years!
It now at 80K miles has a worn rear suspension arm post on the Subframe (LH side), well what happened is the seal failed and water got in and rusted the bearing running service. I fitted new bearings but of course there is still a little play in the bearing...

Sounds like it overheated due to the cooling fan not cutting in. Not too big a problem.
Thing is, if it got too hot, the cylinder head might have warped which means a head skim and new gasket.
Get the fan checked out first, top up with water and give it another go.
Head gaskets go whether you are in traffic or not.

Central Locking/Warning Buzzer

Hi
I had the same problem when i removed a faulty door speaker.
My central locking stopped and the warning buzzer didnt work.
I found that i hadnt reconnected the electrical joint on the inner door properly when i had removed the speaker. Once i tightened it all was ok.
Not sure if that will help.

just tried to get a new plip, cos the rubber buttons on mine have rotted away. Peugeot inform me that it will cost me sixty quid to replace the whole plip as they no longer do a replacement case for the older thick type plip, and the newer thin type cases do not fit. I was about to drop my trousers and be thorourly shafted by peugeot spares...

Replace the fuel and air filters with quality items (you can get them here). The cost of that will be under £20 but it doesn't really count because these are consumables anyway. It's worth running some injector cleaner through it, everybody has their favourite and it'll cost about £6. Taking it for a long-ish high speed run will also help...

306 TD water bleeding?

The process is fully described in the Haynes manual, but assuming you've not got one, here's a couple of tips.
There are three bleed screws: one on top of the rad on the nearside, one on a coolant pipe that runs past the fuel filter housing and one at the bulkhead that is attacehd to a short length of pipe for improved access.
You'll need a header...

I've been offered a pair of headlights from a late 306, so they're the all-in-one jobbies with the indicators and clear lenses. Does anyone know if they'll fit a phase one 306? Also, is it true that they're the same lights as fitted to the 406?
