Peugeot 306 Electric Window Problem - PLEASE HELP!

I have a Peugeot 306 5dr TDLX.
I am having a pain of a problem with my electric windows (I only have front ones). The passenger side works fine, but the drivers side doesn't.
I cannot operate either the passenger or drivers side windows from the drivers side switches.
I have later found out that the drivers side operates if I operate the 'opposite' function on passenger side windows, and while this is operating, the drivers side works.
i.e. I have lift the switch on the passenger side, and while doing this, proceed to open the drivers side window, and vise versa to close. Hope that makes sense!
Is this a common problem? I've checked the fuses and contacts between the door and body, has anyone else had this problem? Please help!!
