Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

A couple of weeks ago some little ####ard wrecked my drivers side wing mirror, I've just got a replacement through the post and want to know how easy/difficult it is.
Never had to replace one before and haynes manual is useless.

Hi guys

ABS light is permanently on so got out the old multimeter and tested across the pins, 3 sensors showing ok but front driver's side showing duff so replaced it. Checked new sensor with multimeter and now shows ok. However, light is still on so checked again with multimeter and passenger side rear is now showing duff. Is this just...

Don't know if this helps but I'm part way through sorting my ABS at the moment and had a sensor show duff at the multi plug but on testing at the sensor plug was ok! Put it back together and tested at multiplug again and was ok!!
Seems that the plugs at the sensor ends sometimes get bad connections so I'd try testing yours at the sensor plug first...

I may have to change the diesel injector pump on my Citroen Xantia 1.9TD SX (1997 vintage with keypad imobiliser).

I'm thinking of fitting a second hand injector pump.

Will this change my imobiliser keypad code to that for the new pump? (Or is there no problem and the code will remain the same as with my old pump).

If I don't know the keypad...

I am trying to figure out why the low hydraulic pressure light is not coming on in my GS. I replaced all bulbs on the dash and confirmed I now have choke, defroster, hazzard, turns lights etc. The light with the -| |- symbol and the one with a brake pedal symbol wont light at all.

The switch is most likely bad, but it also seems like the wiring...

The safety valve pressure switch is a simple chassis connected switch. The switch terminal should be chassis connected when the car has stood for a while and pressure has fallen below 100bar.

Chances are the complete instrument cluster has been replaced over time, thus part of the wiring does not match.
Taken from the old haynes manual...

Hi,
Because I do not use my citroen cx gti turbo2 very frequently I sometimes use a battey charger to charge the battery. Used to classic diesel engines in the beginning I did not know that you have to disconnect the terminals before connecting the charger because of the risk to damage the electronic parts of the injection and ignition....

You will probably get away with charging a CX with the battery leads connected but i wouldn't guarantee that it doesn't do any damage to the electronics somewhere in the cars electrical system.

BUT the more electronic control systems you have in a car, the greater the chance is that one of them may be damaged by the charger if the leads are left...

i know the xantia ones don't fit the 205, cos my cousin liked my seats and wanted plush ones like mine in his 205, i.d say try the AX or BX, something similar in size/class probably match (as in they have the same or similar floorplan).

I've had my Xantia for over 6 years and done 95,000 of the 160,000 miles on it. Generally it's been little trouble but the day before Christmas eve it developed a problem and had to be towed home.

It's a 1997 Citroen Xantia 1.9TD SX (Turbo Diesel) with keypad imobiliser:

Hi, got a problem , The rubber hose on the drivers side screen wash jet keeps fallen off , Bit to dark to look fully , but I have refitted several times but after a few uses it comes off again , Should this have a clip or will I be best to tie wrap on , glue it on or tape it on or try and replace the hose .

well the car just failed its mot today
1 anti lock braking system warning lamp does not illuminate
2 nearside front suspension arm has excessive play in pin/bush

has anybody got any ideas as what could be wrong with the abs light and how to fix it

as for the suspension arm do i need to replace the whole arm or is there some kind of bush...

I recently fitted a pair of 6000K H.I.D. lights to the dip headlamps of my XM. Although the extra brightness is very welcome I'm not keen on the slightly blue tint of the light that falls on the road. 96 xantia 1.9td estate, Hi I towed a car trailer yesterday and just about broke my back due to the harsh ride, I felt every bump in the road. Six months ago I changed the rear spheres because of the firm ride. If anything its now worse. Any ideas or has GSF sold me a duff pair. PS its been hydraflushed. regards john.

ok, the car in question is an M reg 1.9td VSX.

a guy at work has just bought a xantia with duff suspension, no give at all, obviously i said change the spheres and it will be a new car, naturally i check the lhm level and all was good, what i did notice though was how amazingly quick and smooth his hydractive 2 went up and down compared...

Noticed on three recent journeys that with the air vents on my 1.9td (1993) Xantia is letting off a smell similar to burning gloss paint, which logically means some kind of oil..

Flipped open the bonnet and found that at least one of the leak-off pipes (according to the Haynes manual) between the injectors is badly damaged and the engine block...

I'd certainly fit a bass blocker to the tweeters. A simple series connected (in-line) 10µF (microfarad) Bipolar electrolytic capacitor should do perfect.
Its not the power (which is the average music power) of 220W that has to be accounted for, but rather a near-DC (constant voltage) level from the bass component.
This may fuse the tweeter coil....

Oh dear my girlfriends ZX has a new problem

the instrument lights (illumination), clock and cigarette lighter illumination has all failed :roll:

tremendous fun to drive around at night peering myopically at a unlit speedo........

so i have checked all the fuses and they are ok, i have checked the internal illumination dimmer switch and it...

Hoping a few people on here remember what a CX even looks like...

Our recently acquired '85 CX25ie is series 1 of course, but being late S1 it received the climate control aircon system that apparently was installed into Prestiges and Series 2 cars.

Only in theory it has. On a CX it will absolutely destroy the fuel consumption.

Only just picked up my 3rd Xantia yesterday. 1996 1.9TD SX and I'm actually happy with it!
I gave everything a full work over in the test drive, especially the heater.

So I was pissed off today when it stopped working :x Especially with all the frost we're getting!

Its got A/C and the toggle switch with AUTO on the far left and MAX on the...

Hello all. 1993 ZX td. It seems that the boot lock has failed. It does not unlock with the central locking or the key. When pressed the button goes in but does not feel as if its contacting anything, the button returns out .
Any ideas without resorting to a angle grinder or crow bar please.

Hello well the lock now works sort of, I have left the inside cover off untill I can think of a perminent fix.
The problem was that there was so much slop in the button mechanism that the pin had detached itself from the central locking plastic lever and when pushed was missing the lock lever/plate.
This and the complete set of lock/ign barrels...

Sorry! but by far the most likely cause is a broken or slipped cam belt. Take off the rocker cover, you will probably find you have a three part cam shaft!

I have a problem with the Blower fan on my '99 Xantia HDi Exclusive.

The problem is that the fan runs at a fast speed (but not full) regardless of the control panel setting. The fun will not even turn off when the slider is moved to the position to the right of auto. The fan also runs when the engine is not running. However, I have noticed...

For your info I have just purchased PNP Darlington Transistor MJ11015 from RS limited £4-76 each.
Just waiting for their arrival then a bit of drilling and soldering and the blower will work at the various speeds.

A follow up to my older post That sinking feeling.. ( a while ago, I still have not fitted a known working Anti Sink unit..

I think that the not wanting to rise when loaded and the little jump are related problems. I'd say it's either lack of pressure or a internal leak, with Hydractive systems the pressure must be inexcess of 150 bar to activate the HA valve, the pressure regulator is set with a bottom limit of 145 bar and a top limit of 170 bar, as time goes by both...

The ZX has a slight misfire on tick over & upto about 2 ~ 2.5K.
I personally think its overfueling, but I'm wondering if you guys have any ideas that I could try.
It has brand new plugs & runs a known good coil pack. The engine is a 1.4 Multipoint with the squared inlet manifold. The fuel rail was originally a ingle input one that I changed for...

This happened on my daughter's Saxo 1.1.

I took it to my local Citroen Specialist and he said my ECU was faulty. He fitted an exchange, reconditioned, ECU and it cured it.

He claimed that bump starting (rolling down a slope with the clutch in. Let the clutch out and it turns the engine etc.) the car is the most likely cause of the ECU fault....

Further to my blower motor woes, I have rev counter woes.

It works for the first 20mins of a journey, then goes haywire and dies. I hate things that don't work properly right under my nose, and want it fixed!

Any ideas what to look for? Sounds like a connection to me, but where?

A week on Tuesday, I will be getting another Xantia 1.9TD as a donor car for parts, My question is, how easy is it to change the passenger side doors over? and if anyone has done it, do you have a procedure to follow?

Also same question for the rear bumper?

The rear bumper is a lot easier to remove than the front one - the access to
the bolts isn't brilliant but they seem to weather a lot better...

Rightho - recently acquired VSX 16V 2.0i manual 1997 car. It's been sitting
awaiting a replacement screen for about 3 months as other cars/jobs have
taken priority in the pecking order. This afternoon I went to move it ready
for the screen job and it unlocked on the plip but there's absolutely no dice
with any power getting into the ignition....

Hello All,

Looking for some hints before I strip all four doors looking for a fault that might be elsewhere.

When I try to engage the deadlocks either with the plip or the key the locks pop open again as though there was a door open.

When locking the car and arming the alarm the doors unlock but the alarm stays armed, I lock the doors again...

I found the old (faulty) lock. It is Rockwell brand (fitted to a mid-97 car). I am fairly sure that the replacement was Bendix, it probably came off an earlier car.

I'm eyeing up a very late (2000 vintage) Activa to replace my very early Xantia. I have a Witter towbar on my current Xantia which I'd like to transfer over to the new Activa (Why I suggested Activa owners look away as putting a towbar on such a car may be seen as a despicable act :D ).

it is now clear from looking at the fitting diagram on the site below as supplied by reblack68.

This site lists one Witter towbar for the entire life of the Xantia hatchback.

It seems the Mk2 needs the spacer and long bolts that came with the original kit. Good job I kept them although the spacer is doing a good job of hiding...

Hi Guys,

When I pulled the steering wheel from the Xantia I managed to pull apart the slide connector for the airbag. Does anyone have a piccie of how it should be put back together :(

Thanks guys,

I did manage to get it back together last night (there is a fiberous washer in it that seperates the '+' and '-' sides). I rotated the steering wheel with the multimeter across the connector and there is no signs of shorting.

However it's now noisy and the air-bag doesn't work :roll:

BTW: Mine had no signs of clips are anything to...

Hi

my xantia unlocks its self as soon as i lock it. the indicators on each door go down and then come straight back up

sat inside the car and tried pushing each one down manually. pressing the passenger side indicator down, all the indicators stayed down. pressing the drivers side one down and the fault returns.

The big differnece between radial and cross ply tyres is that on a radial, the sidewall and the tread have vastly different amounts of reinforcement in them. That means that with a cross ply tyre your sidewall is as stiff as the tread but with radial tyres the tread is stiff but the walls can be made very thin, the stiff tread makes it resistant...

Currently have a 1995 1.9TD SX which is gradually getting nearer needing replacing.

Now have the chance to replace it with a 1998 2.1TD Athena 2 version with 108000 miles. Does anyone have any knowledge of the 2.1TD? Is it as frugal as the 1.9TD (obviousky I realise it should use slightly more fuel!).

Is it as robust and reliable?

Lee check with your insurance company first,origanally i was looking at a mk1 xantia got a quote for it and was group 8 but spotted a mk2 for same money and bought that instead got a shock when i went to insure it the insurance group bounced up from group 8 to 12 even though it was the same model 1.9td lx estate and the excuse i got for the group...

The top end boost is lack-lustre, but the turbo can be heard whizzing away nevertheless - seems like not enough diesel being injected at the mid to top of the...

Heater blower has failed, but runs on direct connction to battery. No power at brown plug connected to blower. HRS works OK. I can see this simple question is going to start the old Are Activa alloys stronger than standard Xantia alloys question....

The tyres won't come off, steel wheels, the car doesn't have enough grip for that to happen, not unless you hit something with your wheel like a curb.

I would imagine that the steel wheels are more narrow than the Activa...

I have tried two (one new) stats and checked them with boil tests on the stove. Even after a ten mile run the engine is not very hot. It will take at least seven miles in the morning to get the heater medium warm (ish). By this time the rad is not hot overall.

The Ciitroen dealer wanted just over 6 quid per 150ml can ( nowhere near enough to cover a wwhole back bumper) plus they wanted to sell me the laquer too. I got a 300ml can mixed at Halfrauds for 10 squids, which is slightly better value.

Is there an adjustment on th MK2 Xantia (HDi 90bhp) with auto clutch clearance to eanble the pedal height to be altered?

If so any thoughts as to where it is?

Short of bending the pedal, I don't think that there is a lot you can do about it. It needs some slack in the cable but the auto adjuster would take it out again. The only real solution is to fit a manually adjustable cable, but it's a lot of work!

The XTR Multispace ( without Modutop) comes with roof rails that run front to back - does anyone here know if
a) they can be fitted to a Forte (without Modutop)
b) are available to buy from Citroen UK

As Citroen UK cant give me a straight answer at all.
