Hi,

over on

www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk

they have a system where they loan a timing tool for bosch and bosch copy Injection pumps,

apparently it works on XuD engines and a couple of others.

they ask that you are a menmber for at least three months, pm your name and address on the site and donate at least a pound to the website when the tools are borrowed, apparently you keep the tools until the next person requests them and post them on recorded delivery and post the tracking Number on the website.

Does this forum do something like this with tools or special tools? if not why not?

best wishes.

Nigel.

Generally not done here as the tools are mainly just generic ones, other than being the lexias(very very expensive) and the Sphere removal tools(which are quite cheap, I could maybe see the use for timing belt and IP timing tools but by comparison the the Veggie oil forum is quite large compared to us small frenchies :-) so they have more availability of such items.

the problem i can see with this is some people do not know how to treat tools corectly,
what would the proccess be for the tool owner to get an exact replacement for one which might become damaged beyond repaire

I think this thread needs some posative thinking without all of the negatives the system must work out ok else where so why not here>afterall you have to build trust don't you.

From what I've seen on this forum (and one of the things I really like about it), those with specialist tools are more than happy to either visit others if passing or not too far, or have them come visit to meet up and share a pot of tea, and to assist in the work that needs doing.

saying all that it might work for all the non reliant on there tools for there work,

also i cant help just saying what first comes into my head so please dont keep taking me the wrong way,

if we met we might actualy like each other

I think there's many feel the same as you Malcolm and as they're actually the tools of your trade, I fully understand your stance on the matter.

Even under my supervision my nephew feels it's ok to leave my tools lying on the ground and kick them out of the way instead of putting them back where they belong after each use. He's chewed up several torx bits and broken a few drill bits but it's a risk I'm willing to take as long as he learns and changes his attitude soon, otherwise he'll have to get his own. I'd been very concerned to leave him on his own with my tools and he's family! Yet I had no problem lending Toby my torque wrench.

I don't know what can be done to eliminate the risk of breakage/damage as everyone has different values.

Malcom,

I didnt point any fingers at you mate so in the imortal words of Micheal Winner calm down dear.

I can understand and in fact do understand as I have got older I am less reluctant to loan my own tools to other people so we are on the same level there,

I was not aware that there was some type of tool loanning actually going on in the background.

best wishes Nigel.
