Unread post by Martyn027 »

Hello All ,
I have recently bought an.. xantia 1.8 16v p reg , and am experiencing some electrical problems,

I have been reading some posts on here re these but would like some of your oppions in a resolution,

Problem 1, Blowers dont work ( Well worked Twice at engine start , as soon as egnition is turned off it dont work after that )

Problem 2 , Fuel Guage dont work (always shows as empty )

And my most recent is I was driving along the other night pitch black and my headlaps went off at random , now they dont work at all . only sidelamps rear lamps etc.
Oh and the alarm fuse is also disconnected i think due to the water in footwell issue seen on this forum.

I have checked fuses but im learner diy mechanic lol . please help any sugestions ?

kind regards
Martyn

Hi Martyn and welcome :)

Problem 1/ the internal blower will only work with the engine running should take a couple of seconds to start after engine fires up

Problem 2/ Do you have the fuel warning light working when ignition switched on :?: .I think that the warning and the fuel guage are run from seperate feeds but could be wrong. The sender unit for the gauge is under the rear passenger seat drivers side (UK) maybe worth giving the connectors a pull apart and a good clean. My guess is a broken wire somewhere :)

Headlight problem could be fuses as they are seperate from the sidelights or the plugs loose on the back of the lamps themselves.Do you have full beam?? Could be the bulbs have blown.

Check the wiring plug going into the fan sometimes these plugs can give a bad connection, meaning intermittent fan activity, the plug and fan is located in the passenger foot well the upper carpeted section just below the glove compartment, the carpet should come off with 4? screws.
