Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi Guys,

The Hydractive ECU (H5) on my XM isn't getting any power.

I have checked the fuse that is mentioned in the handbook and Ciaran has also advised me to check the ones that act on the deadlock as this caused problems with his suspension also.

After checking the two of these I am not getting any power at all to the ECU.

Hi,
I have a 2002 C5 with a dicky radio/cd player.
It loses signal on the pre-set channels but if it is re-tuned to another channel its ok for a short time then gets crackly again.
I have checked the ariel connection on the car roof and have cleaned it.
Is this a common fault and if so how easy is it to replace the stock radio with another one...

I'm having trouble ensuring I get the correct head gasket set as I know Citroen have at least revised the manifold gaskets on my engine as well as at least one head coolant hose & fitting.

I got the gasket dealer confused so he asked for my reg and that gave him...

Hi guys and girls....

I have a 1996 VSX 1.9 TDi 90BHP which runs super smooth :wink: or so i think.... :?

Its the first time i have had a diesel Xantia and im not sure if it has all the power its meant to have...

From rest and up through the gears the car pulls strong with no smoke and definate turbo boost. Speed rises quickly until you get to...

I've recently bought a 1996 1.9TD VSX Xantia estate. There's is a little pool of fluid down in a little crossmember area under the hydraulic pump. There is a bit of oil dropping down from the back of my 1.9 TD engine, appears to be up near the manifold but not sure !. Its not much - infact I never have to top up the oil, it just looks messy underneath. Anything that leaks up and around that area that is a diy fix ? . Engine has 208 K on it so I suppose its not too bad !

I have air somewhere on suction side of IP on Xantia 1.9 td with Bosch pump. The clear pip that goes from the side of the main filter is showing bubbles. Obvious canditates? primer bulb?The situation is made worse in that Biodiesel will have softened a hose or two. Can the IP Pump be bled?

My 1.8 Xantia 16v developed a leak in the silencer (it only has one unlike many other Citroens). I purchased a replacement from GSF but found that it emitted an unpleasant booming note which was noisier than the original citroen manufactured silencer, even with its leaks. Can anyone recommend a source of effective silencers for this model?

Anyone know which of the transducers is the emitter and which the receiver? One of mine doesn't work and I'd hazard a guess that it's more likely to be the emitter. Saves me doing both door cards if I get it right first time.

You may find that the turbo can be dismantled in situ and the centre bit with the 2 rotors and the oil feed can be removed alone and substituted. I helped a guy do one on a Land Rover the other day - but the LR turbo is on top of the engine!

I'm not sure if that was a Garret or a KKK but basically the thing comprised of an alloy casting (air) an...

I'm wondering what the negatives are against fitting a cone filter direct on the turbo.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to diagnose the cause of a knocking noise on my '92 1.4 Carb ZX (105k miles on clock)...

The noise only seems to happen under load, on right hand turns. It can occasionally be heard on left handers faintly, but it never occurs off load. The noise is a rhythmic knocking, that appears to increase frequency with road speed....

Hi Guys,

Just to polish this one off, Changing both driveshafts did the trick on this one, had myself convinced it was the diff too!

New shocks all round, 2 new rear wheel bearings, freed rear adjusters, 2 new driveshafts, gearbox oil change and an MOT retest later and the ZX is alive for another year!

Hi, my fathers xantia P reg 1.9TD VSX is over heating, he seems to think that the fans are not running when he is stuck in traffic, it doesn't boil over when he is moving along the motorway only when stationary.

could someone please throw some light on the location of the coolant sensor/sensors that trip the cooling fan/fans please?

My sister's 93 Xantia 1.8 has got a pretty serious oil leak - it's used 7.5l on a recent trip to France (so that's about 1l/200 miles then...). We thought it was the crank seal so she had this and cam seal changed a few months back, but it doesn't seem to have made much difference. Any thoughts? Yes, all the 2.0 HDi's are

Believe there are three different outputs for the 2.0 HDi but all are turbocharged. The 90bhp is not intercooled though, the other two are.

More likely to be two causes than one, I'd have thought. I've blown my cigar lighter (auxiliary socket) fuse many times just by plugging my phone charger into it - it seems to be especially vulnerable to getting short-circuited if you don't push the thing into the socket absolutely straight. I've also found that when the cigar lighter goes off, so...

Does anybody know why we cannot drive our Xantias in the US please? it has always intriged me as to why there is a warnning above the headlamps under the bonnet of my Xantia saying this vechicle is not suitable for use in the USA has it got something to do with the americans hating the French or something else?

It's just one of those irritation...

As mentioned on another thread my serpentine belt gave up the ghost, got a new one from gfs, my car has a manual tensioner, eventually figured out that to get it too loosen off I had to loosen the bolt in the middle of the wheel, belt went on ok, but when tightening everything up, and turning the engine over the belt keeps coming out of alignment...

Right, I changed the spheres, changed the LHM for Hydraflush and (tried to) bled the brakes.

I followed Jim's instructions step by step. However, on taking the car out for a run it doesn't feel right, not sure if this is me or not. I can't explain how it feels other than not right. Also I believe I may have been supplied the wrong size pipe seal....

Hi, I've got a Xantia 1.9 TD (vsx),I found a drip of water coming from the radiator, at least I think it's the radiator, It's dripping from under the front valance. Can I use Holts radweld to seal this up? It's says on the bottle to pour it straight into the radiator but theres no mention of putting it in the expansion tank.

as long as you release the presure via the filler cap first, not that there should be much more than a pissst, and the K seal i used youy can put it in a cold system

A possible cause is that your accumulator sphere is flat, the part costs £19.50 + VAT at GSF, they can be changed in less than 10 minutes if you know what you're doing.

Can someone tell me how I can tell what type of suspension I have e.g. hydractive or not. I have six spheres as far as I can see. I got told I had hydractive so I put on the three at the back which has improved suspension but what will happen if I have fitted the wrong ones. I am desperate as I have also ordered the front ones now so need to know...

You won't be able to fit the rear suspension accumulator where the anti sink sphere goes as there will be no 4.5mm hole in the sphere to put the pipe in. Although you would be able to put the anti sink sphere in the wrong place!

If it is an SX then it will not have the hydractive suspension.

I have a 2005 55reg 1,6Hdi VTR Citroen C5. I have a PARROT bluetooth hands free kit which simply plugs into the back of the car stereo by removing the ISO plug, plugging this into the PARROT adaptor and then plugging the other PARROT ISO plug back into the radio. I have 2 questions:-

if its a mk2 you need a thin bladed T-10 screwdriver in the 2 holes at either side, the screws are recessed in the holes.
Also if its a mk2 its not an ISO plug its a quadlock so it wont plug straight in, you'll need a SOT adaptor.
It wont cause any problems but theres no ignition live at the radio so you'll need to get one from somewhere else like...

Working on an old Triumph I think it was....

I seem to recall this happening before where I got loan of a spring compressor that couldn't clear the cover mating surface and reach the recessed valve springs.

It was just like this one and no matter how I configured the spring end, it just wouldn't safely work for me.

Another type I'd tried didn't...

That type is for replacing valve springs or valve stem oil seals without removing the head. It's a bit of a fiddle usually but a lot less bother than taking the head off. If the head is already off you're best to use the normal kind.

After increasing amounts of black smoke, and loss of power I have decided that my EGR valve is the culprit and has got to go. Is it ok to just disconnect or should it be blanked off?
My other car is a Vauxhall and I know they sell official blanking plates for their EGR valves.
Does anyone know of a source (or how to make one up)?

After much searching on the internet i could find very little on the subject of boost on a 2 litre Activa, be it maximum boost, when it hits full boost at low revs and how the boost modulator does its job.

This evening i plumbed in a temporary boost gauge just before the ECU.

My car is believed to be untouched in this area and the results i got...

When the engine is warm it won't start for about 10 seconds and when it does start there is a big cloud of smoke, it does not happen when the car is cold.

Whan i was looking around i found 2 vacum solenoids (?) close together which 1 is disconnected, plus i found another device which i think is supposed to be connected to one of the solenoids....

Went to rescue my better half. Clutch pedal was flat to the floor, gear in neutral. Pulled clutch pedal back up. Managed to get car into third gear after pushing down hill to pick up a bit of speed and then drove it home.

Is this just a broken clutch cable, or is it likely to be something more serious.

the auxilliary belt on my xantia has got a bit ropey so i thought it best to change it (1.9td with air con)

got the new belt, carefully ripped of (i mean removed :shock: ) all the irritating plastic in the wheel arch

compared the wheels and coggy things on my car to my haynes book of lies and :shock: :shock: :shock:

Had a bit of a run through the injection system to find the cause of the flat spot. It seems the throttle potentiometer may have a dead spot. took the lid off and the track is very worn and measuring the sweep with an ohms meter there is a dip in the trace. Unfortunately the potentiometer is an integral part of the throttle body which is £300....

After a long search trying to find a suitable specialist to do exactly what i wanted for my injection pump, i found it!

Chaps name is Peter and is based in Norfolk, i wanted the immobiliser sheilding remove, new bolts and the rotor head seal replacing as i am getting the others done elsewhere but knowing what a problem it is to get that sheilding...

As previously stated, #2 injector had a hardened black glaze of deposits all around the top of the threaded hole (which chipped away fairly easily - cooked oil or diesel?). That injector proved to require a lot of force to unscrew until the very last thread. Looking in the threaded hole, there is the same black deposits on the lower threads making...

Hi, Can any one give me a guide on how to remove the roof bars that go ACROSS the roof please. Do you lever out the plasic cover, the one with a single hole in it, or do you feed the allan key through this hole - thanks in anticipation. :?

Yes there is an Allen Key in the rear over-head cupboard. I have tried pushing it through the hole in the plastic cover but it does not seem tp locate in anything. Do you have to remove the cover on the 'Cross Bar' to expose the Allen Screw?

I thought I'd take a look at the injector under magnification to determine if they require cleaning and was amazed to see brilliant shiny points of reflected light dotted among a carpet of matt black carbon.

Are these diamond crystals? I can't imagine what else they could be.

How easy is it to DIY clean these injectors? I'm thinking of soaking...

I have 97 Citroen Xantia 1.9td, I recently had the cam belt changed & the aircon has never worked since. The light on the dash doesn't light up once the button is pressed, the engine drop's a little to indicate that it has switched on but the air doesn't get colder. The air con worked fine before the cam belt change! Does anyone have any...

The A/C switch in the cabin is notorious for fading the on light giving the appearance it has not switched the A/C on. If you push the switch in extreme darkness, you should see a dim glow at least.
