Xantia droaning noise !

Unread post by froggy »

:?hi , I have just noticed a very load droaning noise in the car , between 45 and 50 miles per hour . I have to turn the radio up to try and stop the noise . This is normally a lovely Xantia diesel to drive . What could it be ? someone said , maybe wheelbearing ?
I hope someone has the answer.

I had this problem and found that leaving the wife at home cured it.........
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Could it be a driveshaft running dry? They can make a very loud noise that you can actually feel through the car's body. The rubber gaiters are meant to be airtight and full of grease but they don't last forever. When they get old the rubber will split. Water gets in, the grease gets washed out and the driveshaft runs dry and rusty. It's easy enough to check the gaiters visually for splits. You can squeeze them gently (don't do it too hard) to check if they're airtight. They should feel slightly springy like they're full, not flat and empty.

Is it engine-speed or road-speed related? (Dip the clutch and let the revs drop when the noise is there - noise go away?).

Der All,

My Xantia 1.9TD Mk 1 make the noise as what i told earlier.

To be specific, there is nothing like bearing noise. It is something else. Might be something knocking and it create a loud knock.

After inspection by my mechanic, we came across fuel pump bracket braken. This bracket is so important that with this it will create some kind of fuel starvation due to it also hold pulley from timing belt that this rotate the fuel pump.

Well just to tell you all, my problem came originally from engine mounting. I delay the repair and now I pay the consequences. All bracket cannot hold, at last the fuel pump bracket also go.

So guys, if you have the mounting problem - fix that first.

Quite right, small problems inevitably become big problems if they are ignored.

My mechanic also tell me the bracket may also crack and broken due to screw not tighten - so many ppl neglect this

Pls make sure the screw (4pcs 13mm) is tight
Thanks
