I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Since we're awash with signal techies here (well, one shy of last year with the loss of our man in France), it seemed a good place to ask about used 'scopes.

Purely for looking at either stuff on the car, or consumer goods, what kind of descriptive advice can people offer? I'm thinking dual trace, but does it need to have a range higher than 20...

I guess it depends what sort of non-automotive uses you envision.

You can't go far wrong with a good second-hand Tektronix scope, but that might be overkill.

For automotive-only purposes, you might pick up a slightly outdated dedicated analyser cheaply. I had an old Crypton one for years, which I bought for virtually nothing, and was excellent...

Just a heads up that LIDL appear to be selling the testers for 99p and the mirror and magnetic pickup for £5.99 as from thursday 2nd December.

When vat was reduced to 15% in January '09 your chancellor levied an extra 2p per litre of fuel, to compensate for the loss of revenue from the vat reduction, now that vat has now gone back to 17.5% we think it only fair that you reduce the the duty again by the same amount, ie 2p per litre....

I was thinking, on some (usually older) vehicles there is no strainer / filter to prevent any muck buildup in the washer bottle.

Not just the congealed stuff, all kinds of dirt. I thought about fitting something over the pump outlet where it extends into the bottle but that's not too practical to actually get at. Although bits of congealed stuff...

Just over 900 miles of assorted motorways, B and C roads, in under 24 hours.

Cruise control helps eat the distances, with my AC/DC collection to dull more boring bits.

Temperatures (advised) between 34° and 11°C. Aircon evens it out.

All this done using an eleven year old car, which in the UK would probably be weighed in...

I couldn't agree more, big Citroens certainly take some beating in terms of comfort and refinement. Xantias, Xms, CXs, C5s, they are all so impressive anything less seems like a backwards step.

Even our big 6 is more refined than a lot of new cars and cruises nicely at 80. Just amasing.

We're looking for a big comfy cruiser and I'd like some opinions on good options.
Basically its got to be huge, bombproof and comfy.
It's pretty much got to have an auto 'box and all the toys so I don't have to lift a finger.

I've been browsing and noticed the sets of inner and outer tie rods assembled, are appreciably cheaper (about 15%) than when you buy an inner and an outer of the same brand.

Winter Tyres for the Xantia

The Goodyears on the front are looking like they will need replacing soon and Im thinking this might be a good excuse to test out winter tyres if the weather is going to be anything like last year.
I'm browsing the on the t'interweb at the moment but I wouldn't mind some people with first hand experience to comment on them.

Just heard on radio one that Oxfordshire is to get rid of all its speed cameras due to government cutbacks!

Seems this may become a feature for most counties.

Oh TYPICAL!!!!!.... the Southern Softies get to ZOOM around at WARP SPEED whilst us poor Northern Goons get (-expletive removed-) Spanked fer doin 33 in a 30 !!!!........

There are so many other offences that I see daily (and they are on the increase as cars get safer ) yet no-one seems to want to tackle them.

ABS, Parking sensors, Lane sensors, armoured (impact-resistant or hunking great 4x4) vehicles all seem to encourage a lack of due care and attention including tailgating, failure to observe when reversing...

Yay hey hey the bloody Scenic should be gone by next weekend :D . Big big mistake buying that. P/x'd it for a Kia Carens auto diesel today 55 plate with 30k on the clock. Not sure if it's made the UK news much, but at present it's not easy to get from Sydney to Melbourne via inland routes. Many of the areas I like to haunt, are underwater or cut off.
