Classics Monthly - Citroen XM

Has anyone noticed the result of classics monthly magazine's debate of whether the Citroen XM will reach classic status?

The latest issue published the result, a resounding YES...but moreso that it already considers it a classic

I think that due to the rate that XM's have been scrapped and their rarity on british roads now, this has helped secure them that status.

I predict that in times to come that all hydraulic Citroens will reach classic status in their respective timescales.

The more the merrier i say

Thats interesting, I did think they would reach classic status, good to know others think the same. I think your right, most hydraulic Citroen, if not all, will reach a classic car status at some point.

Particularly if Citroen continue the current apparent trend of reducing the models fitted with hydraulic suspension at each model change.

Why on earth would they throw away the very thing that distinguishes Citroen from the rest?

Very true, in fact I can see a time when Citroen might not offer hydraulic suspension at all. I can understand why some new C5s dont have it, costs less to manufacture, more appeal to reps in terms of reliability - I think a lot of people think its complex and will cost them money.

Though the benefits of self levelling hydraulic suspension are excellent, for obvious reasons.

I wonder what or if anything is going to replace the C6. Its not been a big seller to say the least and if that just leaves the C5s replacement to continue with hydraulics, then it could be a very limited range of Citroens with it in a few years to come.

That will make life hard for them, the BX, Xantia and now the C5 were and are very popular cars selling in huge numbers, if they arent hydraulic there is no reason to buy them in my opinion, they become no better than similar models by Ford, Vauxhall and Peugeot...........

Really, thats not so good. Whats the point in buying a "big" Citroen (big citroens are the only ones I'm interested in) if it doesn't have hydraulics?

Hmmm, Ok, I might be moving over to the Volvo S80 sooner than anticipated.

That's criminal negligence on Citroen's own historic engineering feats and
marvels. So they're "Creative Technologie" are they?

Citroen are trying too hard to be another Audi with spray on rubber tyres and
zero give suspension or seating; do we need 'sporty' FFS!??

Maybe they don't realise that now the roads in France are superb and don't
require superb absobent supple suspension our roads in the UK are as parlous
as a tinpot run setup in a developing country.

ok the rover SD1 i can sort of understand in a brown and crumbly way but the princess!!!!!!!!!!!!???? surely walking would be better? or the bus maybe?:lol:

That is very sad news, looks like we are going to have to cherish our 'real' big Citroens even more!

However, even a big Citroen without hydraulics is surely better than a Princess! A neighbour used to have a beige Princess as their daily car. What a hideous monstrosity, it let the area down

I like Citroens for more than just for their suspension, but its a great feature to have and certainly one reason i bought the C5.

Though i agree, if that plus point is taken away then are are many more cars which id own.

Robert, an S80 Volvo! Do you have your pipe and slippers ready for that?

Absolutely!!! It ticks all the boxes, its huge, good value for money, nice to drive, and well made. I wouldn't hesitate. If I'm honest I would have a S80 before I would have a C5! (I really don't get on with my father's C5). Heres hoping the C6 will soldier on for another while, and I manage to gather a few up before I have to defect.
