GIRLS CAN DRIVE CARS!

Unread post by arraf911 »

I'm very tired of hearing how bad we women drive cars! Generally, the public believes that men drive better than women, which I think is ridiculous. Statistics show that women drives safer. Men are overrepresented in crashes and driving drunk more often than women!

I recently found a Volvo movie about the Volvo V60 with Auto Brake system, the front figure of the film is a woman who drives surprisingly bad. I'm so tired of everyone using women as bad role models! This video is discriminating against women, they might as well use a guy for that advertisement!

THAT'S why french cars are the best!

After watching the video I came to the conclusion only attractive girls can't drive.

Welcome to the forums arraf911!

It is a very unfortunate old stereotype that hangs on like grim death.

When I was 17 I worked for a while at the home of a lady doctor.
Not only was she very attractive herself, she had three gorgeous teenage daughters :)

But the really impressive thing was to watch her driving. The house was somewhat isolated and had a long windy road leading to it. She would come tearing up this road and park very precisely in front of the garage - every day. Also saw her driving around town, once I was aware of her cars. She could throw it around more skillfully than any man I knew, without ever being careless or unsafe, she was just a very rapid and precise person with very well developed spatial awareness and an affinity for cars. Not girly cars either, Large Rover's and Austin Maxi and an Westminster.

Observed many impressive women drivers since, two of my daughters being among them (the third one not so much :( ) - nothing to do with my tutelage, all their own work.

While it is unfortunately true that some women are careless and inattentive drivers, the same is true of many men too, I think the split is likely to be equal. Depends on the person, not the gender.

I think it has been mentioned that women have smaller, slower speed accidents - dare i say parking, and men have higher speed and often more serious crashes.

Obviously its a film advertising the auto brake feature, other wise, she seems a very good driver. To have a man driving it would be boring! It then hints at her flying the plane, hardly a derogatory thing.

I wouldnt say women are worse or better than men, i think we have all witnessed people driving on the roads who we think shouldn't have a licence, men and women.

Suburbia here is full of crap drivers, male and female. One at the end of my street I nicknamed "Miss Bump" because the front or rear of her Yaris is always freshly stove in. By comparison, our junior authoress a few doors down is an incredibly calm and restrained driver.

The "open road" seems to have more male drivers on weekdays, at least. Weekends it may be more evenly split, but they're a different bunch altogether who can't keep the traffic flowing - so I stay away.

I can't help thinking that in about 10/15 years we'll see Volvos everywhere just stopping themselves dead for no reason when the old, tired, dusty sensors think they've seen a pedestrian.

Some thing like that will make driving in traffic jams such a breeze, as if automatics aren't easy as it is.

I laughed at the search tags attached; first two were fail and epic fail.

Welcome to the forum arraf911.

We can all drive, although some people do not choose, or care to keep up to proper standards, and to drive carefully, with consideration for others whether they are male or female.

The Volvo was poorly advertised, and pandered to stereotypes, and not reality.

They also made a bad mistake trying to prove how it worked in front of the journalists, good thing the car had no driver in it.

Imagine the journalists trying not to laugh, and not believing what they have just seen for a moment, then thinking right thanks for that, what a great opportunity for a story.

While the bosses from the company are wondering what to say/do next.
