Just heard on radio one that Oxfordshire is to get rid of all its speed cameras due to government cutbacks!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/10775216

Seems this may become a feature for most counties.

Oh TYPICAL!!!!!.... the Southern Softies get to ZOOM around at WARP SPEED whilst us poor Northern Goons get (-expletive removed-) Spanked fer doin 33 in a 30 !!!!........

Now let me THINK ..... where does David Cameron live ?????????????????

Oh Yeah............. I remember .......................OXFORDSHIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

The problem with this is, I reckon it means there'll be more mobile speed cameras to make up for it. At least with speed cameras you generally know where they are!

i would agree, i dont want to see the fixed camera's go because if they do you will have unmarked white vans parked on blind bends or layby's in the dark and other ramdom places which is going to be very bad, at least fixed cameras dont move about!!

dont get me wrong i dont think they should have been erected in the first place i know they dont work, no matter what the government facts say, the one outside my parents house was not on an accident black spot and although there had been crashes no one had died, unfortunatly since the cameras were installed (right on a junction and 100yards from a pedestrian crossing) there have been two deaths, maybe coincidence, maybe not but there certainly has been no improvement has there............

The mobile speed camera vans (not the ANPR ones) are being axed too as they are operated by the "Safety Partnerships" that are being disbanded.

Personally, I don't have a problem with ANPR vans - they set out to catch the criminals that don't tax or insure their vehicles.

BTW - it's a good idea to periodically check that your car is correctly shown on the Motor Insurers Database at http://www.askmid.com/ownvehicle/ - especially just after insurance renewal.

But it isn't their profit. All the proceeds now go to the government. Once the councils and HMG split it.

Ollie, 21, is banned from driving.

He said: "I lost my driving licence because I was driving too fast and I think speed cameras work.

"If there's a camera there you will stick to the speed limit, otherwise you know you'll get points on your licence.
*sigh*

Don't bother driving safely, just stick to the speed limit.

No wonder our road safety record has gone down the pan.

Yes, a good site.

It's a pity the security pass is so complex though. I had to try 5 times for 3 replies.

Yes, they seem to have changed it from the time I first posted about this in the useful links section. This extra security measure makes it more difficult to use! I also tried it just now and had to do it several times.

Why have they had to actually remove the speed cams? Why not leave them as they are and say nowt?
