Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

What do we think here..

my belief is that its only a matter of time before this kind of thing becomes commonplace and not just used for tracking known criminals because with all of that data there already collected its inevitable that it will be used for monitoring/average speed....

I was thinking about this a while ago. Do we know what other manufacturers used the PSA group engines (I'd guess mostly XUD and HDi's) in their vehicles ?

I think Ford use the small HDi in their Fiesta ?

Didn't Skoda (or FSO?) use the XUD9 in one of their pickups and possibly early Felicia ?

Would be nice to know what other manufacturers used...

After a years lay up the Activa is (hopefully) going for an MOT tomorrow. :?

Exhaust has been done so I just hope it passes, though after a year of non use I don't hold out much hope if I'm honest.

OK, firstly I realise there are going to be some differences between countries - but what is really sought here, is a Plain English explanation of something.

What I am wondering, is if one wants to lightly use the internet via portable computer (as opposed to a smartphone) pretty much anywhere in an urban environment - what technology is...

Sims have several services that can be assigned to them such as voice, data and blackberry.
So for a dongle sim they just activate the data service.
Another network's sim with data service can be used instead as long as the dongle isn't locked to one network.
Whether it is locked or not is down to the network provider's policy.

I'm looking at a UK donor car to be (rapidly) dissected for spares then shipped as parts. The prospect has MOT but no mention of tax.

If my agent-designate were to buy it, would he/they be able to drive it to the place of dismantling without further costs (fees), or must it be towed?

Would it be smarter to make the bill of sale to myself or...

Hi gents can you help me out?

In a dilemma as to what to do next. Here goes had a 406 p reg upto feb 09, since i ve had 4 motors and not 1 equalled it. All had good reason for buying and for getting rid of. Bought an 06 punto had it 10 weeks and then got a brand new 09 corsa diesel, had that for 10 months and traded in for an 08 1.8 tdci...

Stick with your C5 search, there are many good ones around, all have a good spec and if you go for either the 2.0HDi 8v in the C5I or the 2.0HDI 16v in the C5II they are generally reliable and return great economy with good performance, especially the 16v.

I looked at 406s a while back, they are nice cars but like you, I didn't want an estate...

In these days of expensive fuels, why is diesel so much more expensive than petrol ? when i had my first diesel a bx, diesel was cheaper roughly 5p a ltr less than petrol, now i am seeing it averagly 7p ltr dearer than petrol???? Yet diesel is less refined than petrol hence why the V5 calls it heavy oil.
I want to do my bit to sticking two fingers...

Yep,

An interim replacement for the Alfa 147 has been sourced. I hope to pick it up in a few hours. Didn't want an Mi really; just that all the regular 405s are gone or overpriced.

Have to stop buying stuff; run out of fingers and thumbs now. :?

Pics in a day or so - it's really poor weather here and I don't fancy my chances of nice...

Eighteen months later... Paris now has private plates (GEB-987), and I've just rebushed and repainted the lower control arms in VHT satin black epoxy enamel. Combined with new balljoints (courtesy of Malcolm), new antiroll bar bushes and new droplinks I hope this will take some of the jitters out.

Years ago (60's maybe earlier) I'm not quite old enough to remember, a lot of cars had paper oil filter elements.

Then we went onto the nice cartridge spin on's in most cases.

And over the past few years, manufacturers have moved back to paper elements, possibly as a cost saving measure (lets not talk about the mess) , back to where we started...

I was thinking about this a few months ago.

If you cast your minds back to the mid 90's, you may recall the relatively rare ZX 1.9D Automatic. I believe this had the lovely fully mechanical 4 speed auto box the same as the 205 / 405 had (if someone could confirm that please?) , notice the lack of 306 D auto :(

Having two Honda autos at the time I did not hold much hope for a 95 ZX 1.9d auto that I bought my daughter. Actually I was so surprised....it was a lovely box and she did many miles with it. As seamless a change as I can remember.

I want to start by loosely describing the situation in Australia.

Essentially, the Gov't have said that by some date (sooner than later; can't remember exactly) we will only have digital audio broadcasting. Most stations already broadcast in parallel with the analogue signal.

However... You cannot buy a punter priced digital head unit for cars....

Can't say I share you guys opinions. Like Morgan, I just can't see any appeal for Bristol but then I also don't like Aston Martin's !!!
All of these marks are ludicrously overpriced for what they offer.

Right before it was convenient, the Xantia heater has sprung a more significant leak...

So now we have at chez moi:
Unassembled R16 (waiting for a round tuit)
405Mi16 with no aircon gas (and it's still midsummer)
Xantia with duff heater
605 unregistered and with no aircon (pressostat?)

Alfa with no issues other than some interior trim going a...

well another trip there no hassle with xantia,bloody glad its td,petrol prices over here have gone through the roof 168 a litre,diesel 138,which is on par wih our prices at home.think a new set of sherpes when i get home as ride starting to get a bit harse in rear end,didnt pack camra again so no pics,shame as some real nice areas down here ill...

He had a brand new 406 shell with 16 miles on it. Needed an engine as it was bought by a testing company for the 2.2 HDi and removed from it the day they got it back to the factory.

Just before winter started we bought a 25 litre tub of anti freeze from Millers Oils in Glasgow. When I opened it I noticed this stuff is bright orange compared to the blue stuff I was expecting.

The recent story regarding thefts of cats from cars due to the price of scrap reminded me I have two sitting in the garage to get rid of. I phoned a few merchants today and to be honest was disappointed with the quotes.

Would anyone have a twin SU setup from an early Spitfire or Herald 1296/1300 motor, complete and (realistically) not in line to be used?

I need the fanimold, carbs and linkage at a sane price. (Yes, there is a modded '64 Spitfire in the shed...)

I'm going to need some paint for the 2CV shortly, and as I haven't actually bought any automotive paint for getting on 10 years, does anyone know of a supplier for celloluse.

I used to use ICI Autocolour, but they've disappeared, I can get one pack acrylic, but I'm not used to it.

As I'm moving to the Midlands in 2 weeks time (Wolverhampton/Telford Area) and the Xantia is due for a service can anybody recommend a good garage which offers reasonable prices? If you know me at all, you'll surely know of the love I have for the Vel Satis. It is, without a doubt, my favourite car of all time.

But anyway... they also seem to be absolutely plagued. Whether it be gearbox failure, smokey turbos or just the usual Renault electrical gremlins, they are falling fast.

That's right, the Aisin boxes are meant to be pretty reliable and many independent gearbox specialists around the country are quite willing to work on AW gearboxes. Saab, Vauxhall and Volvo specialists/garages are also often happy to check out issues with Vel Satis gearboxes.
