The cleanliness comes largely from the oil. LT71141, which that gearbox uses I expect, has more detergent in it than Persil as I found out when I spilt some on a mucky carpet tile. It was dirty black before the spill and the LT returned it back to its original blue :o

Also, when working on an autobox, your working area has to be spotless. Virtually to operating theatre standard. Dirt can cause absolute havoc, especially in the valve block...

The old boy who submitted that post clearly knows his game...

Wonder how you got the first link and not second. Second one is current mind you. Worth logging in to see TC being opened 8-)

Your comment of sinister is a bit spooky Dean. One neighbour used to say that with the amount of grinding sparks and welding flash she expected Frankenstein to be wheeled out of garage any night

Gosh :D That was worth joining up to see that page. Wonderful and very educational for all 4HP20 owners as well.

The failure in that 'box was exactly what happened on my Old V6 4HP20, the same badly burned clutch pack and likely a duff lock-up plate in the TC. Shows why if there is any doubt on the health of the TC it MUST be rebuilt. Not a DIY job though...

I noted the two logged in people viewing that thread were Deanxm and CitroJim!!!!
