Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Is anyone able to advise the location of this Railway Tunnel?

Its somewhere on the Fort William to Mallaig Line and I suspect it's likely to be prior to the Glenfinnan Viaduct. I believe the train was travelling West.

My father has one of these in his loft in mint boxed condition - I will be round at his probably this Sunday (he used to have it fitted to his Austin 1300, then he fitted it to his Mk 1 Metro - it was still working when he took it off and boxed it up).

Yes, you have to watch the bu**ers - I've just emailed the bay of evil over a seller selling goods advertised in a picture, when in fact the price shown is for the plastic bottle only! It is completely misleading and I suspect against the Advertising Standards code of practice. More over it is an annoying waste of time. As you can see picture one...

Hi John all the vans are Renault and just rebadged accordingly. I know that other vans like the Citroen Relay did have the engines fitted by who badged them. But as far as i am aware the Nissan is a Renault though and though.

Been running my Xantia 1.9TD on different ratios of WVO, WHO and diesel. It's been running now for 2 years and within I covered about 40kkm. Only mods that I've done is coolant heat exchanger and heated fuel filter (from a Golf MK1 :-D ). I change my engine oil every 10kkm and so far I didn't notice any polymerization...

I went about 5 miles on 100% new sunflower oil on my Xantia 1.9 when I went to trade it in 12 years ago. I had no fuel left and wasn't prepared to put a fiver in just to get to the dealers, so 2 bottles of sunflower oil was only a pound. I never noticed any problems in that 5 miles. It was end of March in Scotland so washy that hot. I did wonder...

It hasn't been on for a couple of years now and when it was I only watched DVDs and piped the sound through the stereo.

My Grand Picasso has a few light scratches on it, as you'd expect with a 9 year old vehicle. If it were metal, I'd not hesitate on polishing them out with Farcela or T-cut, but they're on the front left and rear right wings, which are plastic.

Can I do the same sort of thing on plastic? Do I need a special compound or material to do it ? I...

as we are about to apply for another Blue Badge exemption i thought i'd pass them on.........even if you don't use them often hopefully some of yoiu can save a bit and stick it to de Man :)

Not everyone is aware but free Road Fund Licence is available for main vehicle, possibly also if you can prove your car is main one used by Badge...

I used to use sunflower oil in my Xantia back in the day without any problems. Was usually a 50/50 mix but on the day I traded it in, I was low on fuel so stopped at Safeway and bought a couple of litres of sunflower oil, enough to get me to the Citroen dealership. Those where the days when a litre of sunflower oil was 43p and diesel was 89p so...

Been a few threads on Dash Cams, but today has seen the profile of them raised sufficiently to become the subject of radio phone-ins.

Operation Snap, pioneered in North Wales, is likely to be copied, or rolled-out along similar lines to a police force near you!

Title says it all. My 22yr old xantia is up and running again and since going into the indy for welding and a host of other repairs my breakdown insurance has lapsed. I never expected to see her again! So, is there a decent low cost service out there who would attend to a car of that age without any hassle as i'm not as confident of her longevity...

Just to update ... went with GEM in the end. Advertising 10mths for 12, £83 - £18 topcashback so £65 all inc for roadside, recovery and home assistance, any car. And ... they explicitly state that age of car doesnt matter. So that swung it for me 😃. Now to get them to fix my air leak problems on the drive... I think not somehow!

A year or so ago, I built another pair of hi-fi speakers, this time a small-ish pair for the lounge, to mate up with a new 4k Sony tv, via a small 12+12W rms amp.

Had previously put together one or two speaker pairs making use of piezo tweeters - often poo-poo'd on grounds of quality - and this time I took the trouble to calculate enclosure...

I want to cut some fairly intricate shapes in large c. 1mm mild steel sheet, including some inside curves. I don't need engineering style precision, its for artwork.

Tin snips are OK, but hard work, don't really do inside curves too well and distort the edges a bit (but not so bad it cant be dressed back). My old Goscut is hard work and...

Think I will try again with jigsaw and clamp between thin mdf or ply sheets, few offcuts in garage. Maybe with spray mount. Immediate thought was I'm going to need lots of ply, but thinking it through you only need to sandwich the area you are...

There are some truly nasty looking pics on this site: of broken injectors and glowplugs. Quite a lot of inventive, if abortive, efforts to remove them. The guys that run this place must have lots of kit, and lots of patience!

I was just checking on PSA Group's site for some info and I see they have now finally incorporated GM's European operations into the branding - God help us all:

Got Porsche 911 as well.

Fine...but the proviso is that it's old enough to be air cooled. I lost all interest in them after that.

I'd take a first gen Boxster mind you, because image and styling aside they are honestly a cracking car to drive, and feel every bit as quick as the 911 of the time and a lot more nimble.

With the MOT regulations changing from May next year to increase the MOT age limit exemption from pre-1960 cars to a rolling 40 year exemption, what nice French cars will this allow to be driven both MOT and road fund licence expempt ? What would you get ? :)

I'd buy a Volvo Amazon. Granted it's not French but you can still buy parts for it. Wouldn't go near a 40 year old French car as I can only get about 60% of the parts I need for a 20yr old one.
I would have a petit limon though as I've a soft spot for them since I started one. It's not a car I'd drive on the roads.

That was quite a successful race car in the 90s, but of course drew no attention. Iirc they had to pump up the suspension prior to each race as the lhm pump wasn't allowed in the class rules, this may have been a later rally car though.

Oh, and it's best to be REALLY sure that the wire you about to cut, is, in fact, as dead as you think it is :shock: Fortunately the RCD did its job and it was no more than a small fizz. No idea why the wire is live - it was not connected to anything in the light switch (and I thought I had confirmed it dead with a circuit tester). Now terminates...

I saw an interesting youtube yesterday about the poisons emitted by those sweet smelling candles the ladies love about the house, it seems they're more harmful to people indoors than the air pollution created by motor cars outside.

I don't have a link but a 'candles v diesels' search might pop it up.

I can find zero reference to wire colours. I know from solving my Xantia cooling fan issues that wire numbers (printed in dot-matrix micro numerals along the wire length) is the preferred method. As the wires come pre-pigmented, is there...

Police have found a Peugeot 104 that was stolen 38 years ago (it was four years old when stolen), and will be returning it to the original owners. However, it is not in a great state;

At the Great Dorset Steam Fair this year was a traction engine that had been in (under?) a river for 50 years, after it had been pushed there to reduce the erosion of the bank.

Considering that flooded cars are generally considered write-offs, that Pug looks like an interesting prospect - though I doubt the interior's as good as it looks.
