The seatbelt question I'm sorry can not answer. But the cold start might be due to a Cold start sensor. This is situated under the distributor and is a 2 pin blue coloured switch. The switch is available from Andyspares/Gsf part number B93490 @ £11.75. For the small price this is well worth trying first, basically it tells the system to work on...

Have you changed the coolant lately? as it sounds like you have an air lock in the system, try emptying the cooling system and filling it following the haynes manual, i.e. using the bleed screws and a header tank etc..and it should be fine......

Turbo/exhaust problem - 306 XRDT

More likely to be a leak on the intake side than the exhaust, look for loose connections in the ducting from the turbo to the intercooler.
The intercooler to manifold rubber gasket can fail and cause blowing and reduced boost pressure, plus noise of course.
If none of them, perhaps a blown manifold gasket.

Its just possible you have a dodgy starter motor. Next time this fault happens try to hit the starter motor and see if you get a response. you could have a sticky solenoid. first things to check are the battery connections are clean and tight and the same for the connection on the starter motor. check the earthlead connection from the battery...

From the top of the fuel tank to the hard pipework there are two lengths of fabric covered rubber hose. Have you checked those? Over time they do develop pinholes. Access is through a plastic covered hole under the rear seats.

Anyone know why I have the following faults.
Dashboard bulbs come on and go out randomly.
Headlight dash bulb doesn't work, but not blown.

You will have to remove the Intercooler completely to change the Glowplugs at the diesel pump end I'm afraid. A small 8mm and 12mm spanner are required to remove the plugs, access is tight.
As regards the diesel filter, the drain is at the front, the black plastic screw. Originally there would have been clear plastic tube fitted to this to that...

If its anything like a Xantia, the alarm will sound after approx. 30 seconds, if I disconect my battery I simply press the plip to arm/disarm the alarm, this resets it to normal again.
More important is having any radio codes safe before you go ahead.
Remove the Negative (-) lead first incase you hit an adjacent part of the body with the spanner...

The glow relay will still operate and click wether all or none of the glowplugs are working, though if none are working you would hardly have a prayer of starting it on the bobbin from cold.

The problem you describe is caused by failure of the rear brake compensators, they do not allow anough fluid through to the caliper.
Theres one for each side, and you'll find them in-line on the brake pipes towards the rear of the car.
They are a fairly common failing.
I'm assuming by the way that the rear caliper...

Just coming from one side would have me thinking possibly something in the final drive which would make it a fair bit cheaper to fix than an entire gearbox.

That noise almost sounds as though it's in the final drive. Has the oil level been checked?
In recent times, I've had a phobia about this since I found in 4 cars, an average of about 300 - 600 ml of oil in transmissions which were supposed to have a capacity of 2 litres. All cars were garage serviced.

205 overheating/dashboard warning lights

It looks like 2 wavy lines with a lid on top. Any ideas what this relates to?
Low water level in the radiator??

My 1991 205 1.1 Style overheated on the M25 today! 2 red lights came on. One was the temperature guage which went off once the car had cooled down. If you have a sunroof, do a search on that, including Citroen Forums (Fora?) as well. If that fails, look for postings made by me. Sunroof is always a very good starting point if you read my posts.

Any ideas as to how rain water makes its way into the footwell on the passenger side. Have changed windscreen in case it was leaking but that has not cured it.
Nothing obvious but its awful as it gets steamed up as at this time of year the heater is always on!
Any ideas please?

Next time it refuses to start, loosen slightly an injector union. Attempt to start. If there's no fuel escaping, check that the stop solenoid is working correctly.

Can anyone help??
My dad has a Peugeot 205 TD, on an L-Plate. He is currently experiencing problems when trying to start the engine when it is hot. He has no problems with starting the engine from cold, however after a journey it refuses to start for a long time after. This problem can change from being intermitent to being after every journey....

yes i have got the manual my pug is the basic 405ge 1.6
im going to put another sensor in rad and change thermostat
today after i had parked up fan kicked in 1 minute later then turned off again radiator was cold and i just turned on ign and on it went again this is without turning on engine this is the first car i have had thats doing this and...

Hi there,
Well sometimes the fans will kick in after you have switched off the engine apparently this is normal providing however the engine is quite hot, if the engine is cold and is doing this then yes I think you have a problem. if you do have a problem you will probably have to check out the Bitron sensor (if you have air con) or the sensor...

Just out of curiosity; have you tried totally disconnecting the battery, leaving for a few minutes & then reconnecting to see if the ECU then resets to its original settings???

You should be getting rather more than 36 with your 306 DT. Fuel consumption is best checked from brim full tank to brim full again, and dividing miles travelled by amount consumed. Also have a good look around the engine bay and see if you have any obvious fuel leaks. Check the flexible hoses from the tank to the rigid pipework. Check tyre...

I've just had my 406 (R - '97) tested by the garage from where I recently purchased it. The car has twice exhibited an alarming symptom of power-loss between 1,500 & 2,500 rev's in all gears - 1st gear usually not as bad as other gears. This is accompanied by a very metallic knocking sound (much louder than a tapping sound)...

Can you tell us which red light it was that was coming on and staying on. To deactivate the airbag system all you need do is disconnect the battery and wait a couple of minute before working on it. When you reconnect, its advisable to turn on the ignition from outside the car, just in case the bag deploys. If the airbag light stays on, disconnect...

Looking in the manual it looks like a long, but fairly easy job. Depending on whether its pre or post 1988.
I'm having the same trouble, my bulbs are going at a rate of one a month, hence the other post.

Halfords perhaps or maybe a local light bulb specialist shop?
Check your owners manual which might give you the bulb type required - if not, then the light bulb guide in halfords will.

Firstly is your car fitted with air con? Because the pipes cover the cable where it goes through the bulkhead and its a pig of a job. This requires unfastening the pipes on the offside and utilising...

Have seen mention of this issue before, but not the solution!
How do you get sufficient access to the engine side of the bulkhead to release old cable, and engage clip fitting of the new?
Removal of intercooler and associated pipe work does not enable enough access.
Car is 1997 R reg 1.9DT 5 door.(Airrcon fitted)

Anyone who drives a Pg 605 TD ( 2.1 ) fancy having a look under their bonnet for me??
Ive recently rebuilt the engine and there is one pipe I cannot remember where it goes!!!!
Presently it is running along the top of the radiator - it comes from under the o/s front wing somehere.....heads along the top of the rad, it has a 3 way t piece on it,...
