The axle would be a straight swap but you would have trouble with the brake lines, they are different on the 1.6 when compared to the 1.9. One uses two lines to the rear, one uses only one (I cant remember which is which).

is that a double injection relay connector ? if you can hold on till tommorrow i'll get you the citroen part number (same part) for the repair connector.or you could get one from a scrapyard.

Put your new air filter in and also 2x or 3x the recommended amount of Dieselclean or Redex Diesel. Try to delay the retest for a day or so to give the treatment time to do its stuff. Take the car for a good thrashing down a motorway prior to the test. Make sure the temperature is up when its tested, but they should do that.

I'm experiencing a problem with my 306 HDI, at first I thought it was 'one
of those things' but its getting worse. It's losing it's turbo boost
intermittently when accelerating - generally it occurs around 2,200rpm and
goes dead for 1-3 seconds, then comes back and performs how you would
expect. Putting your foot down doesn't give any boost either...

new radiator is needed before you blow the head gasket? that if it hasnt already?

Clean the pump off and positivly identify the leak, or you can well expect to keep forking out until its eventualy nailed.
If its only leaking, why the huge quote for what should only be a sealing washer or o ring replacement, something most diy'ers could do providing there isn't the complication of an immobiliser involved.
What pump is it anyway.

My Xantia had this problem when I got it new. It went back to the dealers several times but eventually the trouble was pinned down to the tailgate lock. Although it was locked, it was telling the computer it wasn't. After an exchange, it gave no further bother.

the arial transponder is located around the switch assembly.
if you having problem with the key recordnise due to faulty arial transponder the key light will flash.

There's no need to change them until you find that the engine becomes reluctant to start. Glowplugs can go for many thousands of miles, on the other hand, they sometimes go quickly.

If it's the o/s corner that the noise is coming from have a look at the intermediate bearing on the drive shaft. Give it a spray with WD40 - it'll only be a temporary cure, but it may point you in the right direction.

It is for a 1.4 diesel though, and the locations in a couple of instances didn't seem to match the 1.5D Escapade when I stuck my head under the bonnet yesterday ... so , before spending mony please read the ECU.

Your going to need to replace the lamp thats lights your miles/trip.

If you are not losing brake fluid I would be looking at the master cylinder. It might be that the internal seals are not holding the pressure.

Please guys, does nobody know about this one ?

It is indeed a breather valve running from the rocker cover to the maninfold. Your best way forward is to replace the air filter and rocker cover gasket, gunk the engine and get everything clean so you can see any oil leaks.

I've seen earlier Solex carbs converted on the BX (same carb/engine) - but couldn't give you a source for the conversion. Was that a local GSF branch who gave the advice, or Andyspares itself? The advice can vary dependent on local knowledge.
The conversion I've seen on Solex carbs keeps the coolant pipes in place AFAIR but substitutes manual...

The old 1995 306 (manual steering) has a bit of a problem. There is a persistent wobble/vibration in the steering wheel which becomes noticeable at around 50mph and gets worse with increased speed. So far I've done the usual checks; tyre pressures, front wheels balanced and tracking. There has been no change Plus the car has just passed it's MOT...

If you feel it's worth it then £50-ish would get you a manual choke conversion kit (unless you can find an unwanted, reduced one on a factor's shelf or one in a scrappy attached to a car).
Alternatively, there are 2 things to check (haven't done this myself so it's all theory)
(1) Bleed the coolant, leaving the top of the autochoke feed till last...

Was every thing ok up until this moment, had there been any work carried out on the cooling system recently.
This could be a water pump leak or a water leak at some other point in the cooling system, but it could also be as sinister as the cylinder head gasket.
You need to make sure the cooling system is free of air by bleeding it, this may...

You need an inlet/exhaust manifold gasket, a turbo to exhaust manifold gasket and depending on the type of oil feed connection at the block a new o ring, but some of these are just a flared metal compression type fitting.
It's not going to be easey and you need it on stands or better still on ramps to get at bolts from underneath, I prefer ramps...

SOUNDS LIKE THE FUEL LINE HAS GOT DIRT IN IT AND MAYBE BLOCKING THE JETS UP A BIT. TRY EITHER RELACING THE FUEL FILTER OR FITTING ANOTHER IN LINE FUEL FILTER THIS MAY REMEDY THIS SITUATION FAILING THAT HAVENT GOT A CLUE.

Due to pressure from SWMBO I am fitting a power steering unit (off a 1.4i) to her diesel 306, the the only part I can see a problem with is the pump and belts is it the same pump and why all the different sizes of pulleys??

Maybe a compression test first, then a check of the pump timing. I take it you've already checked for dirty fuel filter and injectors. Also for binding brakes.

This would work, but to be honest the only time the intercooler may get too warm is when in traffic, the lack of air flowing across it causes it to act as a heat sink. I'm assuming the intercooler is mounted on top of the engine, in which case have you got the ducting which directs air over the 'cooler? If not, this would be more effective than...

The wires going from each pad should connect by means of a push-in connector situated near the bottom of the strut. In my experience they are unreliable - they either fail to give a warning of wear, or display the warning light because of a short. I much prefer to rely on periodic inspection.

When looking at the car, make sure its been serviced regularly, with regular coolant changes/checks. Ask if the head gasket has ever been replaced. Check the coolant level, it should be full and a nice green/greeny-blue colour. The oil will always be black in a diesel engine of this type, but check it isnt as thick...

Did one years ago while the hub carrier was still on the car, wasn't easey, better to take the carrier off and get it on a solid bench or just take it to some outfit with a press.
Doesn't matter what you do to get the old one out as long as you don't damage the carrier obviousely, but the new one must only be driven back in using its outer race or...

Hi all , i'm about to buy a '99 406 2.0 estate auto , however it has a tapping noise from the top of the engine. It has done 95,000 miles and appears in good condition with full history. I've been told ( not by the dealer ) that 406's have noisy fuel injectors , but it sounds like the classic tappet noise. Can anyone suggest otherwise?

I have a 405 GRDT and use it a lot for towing. Is there a way of increasing the turbo boost by adjusting the wastegate? I seem to remember this was a tweak on Petrol turbo cars which increased turbo boost and was wondering if i could do this on mine? If so what do i need to do to the wastegate rod?

I'm going to look at a 205 XRDT with a view to buying it. Is there anything that I need to pay particular attention to an these? Any known problems that is besides the basics you look at with every car.

On the 1.5D engine there's only the one bleed screw which is set into the hose near the header tank. The fan cuts in at 96C. Mine very rarely does anything.

My 306 gradually lost turbo kick until it drove like a normally aspirated car. Turned out to be a hole in the pressure sensing pipe which goes from the middle front of the intercooler to the side of the fuel injection pump. Very easy fix (new bit of pipe and 2 jubilee clips). Another guy I heard of with the same car had the same problem after...

does it have a little shocker on the throttle lever ? if so take it off & throw it away.

Those wheel bearings aren't adjustable so what the garage were trying to achieve is a bit of a mystery, once they have play in them its there for good.
To get the drum off, shove a screwdriver through a wheel bolt hole at roughly the 20 past position for the near side and 20 to for the off side, you need to find the handbrake lever inside the drum...
