I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

These engines should run at about 80-85 on the gauge and rising to around 90 in traffic.
It does look as though yours is running a little high, but all engines can be slightly different and the gauge is not super accurate.
Might be worth getting the cooling system flushed and the rad flow tested to make sure there are no obstructions/scale...

Can anyone tell me what temp my 98(R) 306 1.9 D Turbo should be running at under normal conditions.
At the moment it seems to be running high at around the 90 mark & when in traffic can go higher but is brought back down when the fan kick's in.

have you tried a citroen dealer with a Lexia or Proxia machine ? they are practicaly identical macines as a diag2000,they would just program it as a C8 & it will work fine. have you fitted the additional brake switch & the cc stalk ?

I want to switch on the cruise control functionality in the ECU of my 806 HDI.
The generic scan tools / fault code readers cannot do this, it has to be a Diag2000 which is what the Peugeot dealers use.
I can't find a dealer that will do this for me, probably they don't want to be liable for making a mistake or something, and they certainly won't...

If your brakes are binding, your wheels will heat up and will be red hot after a few miles. So that's fairly easy to diagnose.
Brakes need to be stripped and cleaned up as part of a service schedule anyway, you'll need brake cleaner and copper grease to do the job.
But go easy on the copper grease, you don't want it getting onto the pads.

Gassing battery has to be overcharging problem. The acid in the battery is sulphuric. I would suspect the alternator. Regulator/diodes in fact. I wouldn't have expected dim lights at idle though.

No filler cap per se, but a filler / level hole. it's a bit of a swine to get to, and to gain access you will probablly need to remove the N/S wheelarch liner. The bolt is the only 19mm head one on the pressed steel end of the gearbox. remove it, and squeeze oil in until it starts to drain back out again. If I'm filling a gearbox up from dry, I...

Its difficult to see from the online GSF catalogue, but for the 1986, 1360cc 205 models there is only the one clutch, it is common with the 954 xv8, 1124 xw7, 1360 xy7 xy8 engines. The 18 spline clutch is either 21, fitting G1, F1, E1 engines, or 20.8 fitting the XU/XUD engines.
The engine you have is the Peugeot design, the clutch you got I think...

There isn't an easy way to do the end plug. The deep socket won't go on and if you use an OE spanner, you'll round off the corners. Best way is to use a spare ring spanner, shortened. It's then possible to use leverage at an angle.

My otherwise troubleless 406 1.9 TD has trouble starting in the cold. Sometimes 4 turns. Starts fine when warmor when the air temp is above 7°C.
I am fairly sure that it is the glow plugs. I have changed the two easy ones on the RH side of the engine but does any one know an easy way of changing the ones behind the fuel pump without it's removal...

Sounds like the fan resistor not relay. This shouldn't take to long to remove. If it any thing like the Xsara its by the motor assembly and the passenger side.

Fuses are OK, could be the relay, does anyone know which relay & where it is.
The heater control seems OK as I can still get hot/cold air out of vents when travelling at speed just no fan control.

How easy is it to fit a boost gauge to a 205?
I've been reading about the BX having a over-boost switch under the battery, so plumbing one in would be quite easy using that feed. Does the 205 have one, because i've never noticed it? If not how easy would it be to get another pressurized feed?

Sounds like the water pump inlet to me. Pig to get to indeed. A bit easier if you remove the drive shaft and lower engine mounting which involves draining gearbox and supporting engine. There is an intermediate driveshaft bearing which is often hard to remove from its housing. The engine mount is part of the same assembly. You can reach so far...

My 98’ R reg 306 has deadlocks, I have the old style IR remote with two buttons the big one locks and unlocks the car. The small one works the deadlocks, you can also set them manually by locking the car with the key in the door. Turn the key to lock the car, then turn the key a bit further and you should hear another electric sort of noise...

I'd always thought that the late 306s came with deadlocking as standard. This was called into doubt the other day when it occurred to me that my 306 (x-reg HDI GLX) doesn't appear to be deadlocking the doors.

The early non multiplexed cars had 3 temperature sensors.
One for the STOP & high temperature warning light, Another one for the ECU & Bitron unit & a third for the temp gauge.
Your HDI is multiplexed im afraid, It could be a just duff sensor, electrical connection or it might want a software upgrade.

Drove fine for a couple of weeks but occasionaly the red STOP light flashes and beeps on the dash and the digital display shows ENGINE TOO HOT OR OVERHEATING (cant remember exact words). thats depends where it came from, but according to the KYB listings, all 406 saloons have a choice of 3 shocks. Standard, badroad and adjustable. They are all interchangable in pairs it would seem.

It sound as though the ignition switch has failed or you have a short somewhere. The single small wire that goes to the starter motor pre-engage solenoid should only be live them the ignition key is in the start position. Disconnect the wire from the starter and either use a meter or a bulb to ground to see what is happening. I do not recall this...

Hi
The rear on a 405 is a torsion bar set up.
To lower it, all you do is pop the rear arm of the spline & move it around a notch or 2.
Yeah right, Its a real sod of a job to do because everything will be siezed & wont undo.

Certainly not a DEAD starter if it is making a noise. It does sound like it is not engaging with the flywheel. Could be a number of things. Do you get a loud click before it spins? 80 quid is about right for a mechanic to supply and fit. You could do it a lot cheaper yourself with a breaker's unit but the mechanic has to earn a living. Hi,
I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago about starting problems I was having (intermittent, turns over well but doesn't catch especially after damp and no use). It's a 205 K reg petrol 1.1l.
Well today, I had the same problem after 2 weeks perfect operation. But my starter motor seem to have stopped working.
I pulled out choke, turnerd it over...

Start by checking the wiring and associated connections on the sender unit in the tank, then go on to the sender unit itself.
I have found some Peugeot sender units to be optimisitic. I work off the trip meter, start thinking about filling the tank after 550 miles.

I seem to be having a minor problem with my fuel gauge!
This has now caused me (mostly my wife...) to run out of fuel in an embarrasing manner

Whilst jump starting my daughters car with my 106 xnd the lead earthed on the peugeot and blew the 25amp fuse - I have changed the fuse but still have no electrics although the ignition light now stays on permanently when the battery is connected - everything appears to have gone - is there another fuse box somewhere ? or has anyone any ideas...

I paid £300 for a td engine and gearbox, found through internet forums. Dont limit yourself to looking just for an engine, I've seen the complete cars go for as little as £150.
Whats wromng with your current engine is it beyond repair?

Are they both xud 1.9 turbo diesels,? Around 97 the 406 engine started to change as well as the 306 so there may be some differences. I am guessing you already have a head? just compare them see if they are visibley the same, no extra connections etc. Internally they should be the same if the external is the same.

Could I fit a 306 TD head (from mid '90s car) on my 1998 406 1.9TD. Is it a straight swap or more of a case of just technically possible but not easy?

I am desperatley trying to locate a speedometer drive housing for my 1995 306 n/a diesel gearbox. I need to find out what other gearboxes will use the same fitment. Am I right in that my gearbox is BE3? If so will the housing off a 205 / 309 gearbox fit??

I did it many moons ago to my old 205. With the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual I managed to figure it all out. An easier way to do it is to find a GTi in a scrappy and remove the loom that runs from the fusebox to the instrument cluster, swap this and the instruments with the one in your car, and hey presto it works!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how hard it would be (or if it's even possible) to swap the instruments from a 309 GTi into a 1.4 TU engined 309. I'm assuming it's a case of whether the wiring looms are the same or not.
Another option would be the dash from a 205 XS which I belive has a rev counter and a TU engine, but I'm not sure if...

Best bet is to find a second hand unit from the yards. This will be a fraction of the price from the main dealers. Aslo you will discover how to remove the unit on yours.
From what I can remember, you dismantle parts of the dashboard and disconnect the heater control cables.

The variable speed cabin fan has stopped working on my 1992 309 GRD and having tested the motor can only assume the rotary control/variable resistor circuit board is the problem. Any one out there suffered the same problem and if so does Peugeot still sell replacement parts?

The mysterious warning light is the sidelight's on warning. If the 309 heater control is similar to the 306, it is a pig to change the bulbs as you have to remove half to dashboard to get at them.

ive got a 1994 306 xld, the other day while i was driving, this little green symbolo of a light bulb appears in the top left corner or my instrument dial. do any of you know what this is, as far as i can tell, i havnt got a light out.
also, does anyone know how hard the heater dial dash bulbs are to replace, haynes says it quite hard, (4spanners)...

This is a pretty common fault with all 405's I think. I have to take mine out every year as it starts to get cold and find if you spray a load of WD40 on the spindle it cures it right up. No need to replace until it stops!! :D

Hi,
I have just removed the interior fan unit from my 405 as it was making a sweaking noise, even with the engine of and the key in the accessory position. The noise tended to get faster if I increased the fan speed.
Has anyone fixed one of these, are they worth fixing, if not then where is the cheapest place to get one.

Hi all
Has anyone had the head gasket leak on the 1.6 16v engine. It has only done 33000 miles and its leaking already? Obviously its just out of the warranty now as well. Its leaking on the right front of the head. Just wandering if its happened to others or am I just unlucky??

If it isn't bust, don't fix it. They sometimes sieze, and can be coaxed back into life with some WD-40 on the hinge and some gentle persuasion with mole grips.
But it's the kind of thing you'd only become aware of when an MOT tester points it out.

Its good that your are pulling the choke out. Try pumping the acclerator pedal few times to add some neat fuel into the carb. This should help a bit. Its worth making sure the plugs and distributor are working ok and there is a decent spark getting to the plugs. One thing to try when you have more time is to take one of the spark plugs out, attach...

Welcome to the forum. Have a look down at the brake pedal, you'll find a switch. Press the pedal with your hand and see if the bit that touches the pedal moves, as sometimes the switch can stick. To check the wiring and feed, pull the wires off and connect them together, this should activate the lights. If the lights come on, the problem...
