405 turbo diesel

Unread post by glynn25121100 »

Hi just bought a '93 K reg 405 GLDT with 195000 miles on clock[:)]. only problem is that i get an orange warning light flashing on the left side of the dash, it doesn't stay on all the time just comes on intermitently. It looks like a bowl with a pipe coming out of either side of it. Does anyone have any idea what it is as i don't have a handbook and is it anything to worry about or could it just be a wiring fault?
Everything else is fine and the stop light doesn't come on when i drive it.
cheers

It is the Water in Fuel warning lamp.
Stick a new fuel filter in & drain off the water in the fuel filter housing.
Or unplug the sensor

Thanks. Is the fuel filter underneath near the fuel tank? Does it need to be bled through after and if so how?
Cheers

Hi
The fuel filter is under the bonnet on the diesels.
There is a drain tap at the bottom of the filter housing to drain the water out of.
There is a fuel primer under the bonnet, It depends which fuel pump is fitted to the engine as to which way you prime it.
Theres a couple of different primers, Im not a diesel man myself, One of the diesel guys will be along in a minute with a better answer.

Warm up the engine. The fuel filter should be in a black housing with 4 Allen bolts holding the lid on, take the lid off and remove the filter. Clean out any muck inside and pop a new filter in, screw the lid down then give the primer bulb a good few squeezes until resistance is felt. (The primer bulb is on the LHS of the engine above cam belt housing)start the engine, it should start straight away but may misfire. Keep trying until it idles normally. Jobs a good'n!

Had the fuel filter out and cleaned out what was inside the housing. Put in a new filter and primed fuel back through. Engine started first time no problems. Drove for a bout 10 miles and light was flashing at me again. Guess its a dodgy sensor. Does anyone know how to take it off???

We also have a fussy one on a N reg 205d.
I've cleaned out & relaced filter no change......bloody ignore it!
