Map sensor

Unread post by ezee_duzit »

Been advised to change the map sensor in the engine manifold on my 1999 1.8XS 306, does anyone know how to do this. Help would be much appreciated.

For what purpose? Is the old one faulty (very unlikely) or have you been tuning?
If it's the latter, don't spend loads on a stupidly overpriced FSE regulator. Get a Ford CVH injection one from a scrappy as they're all adjustable. Even a new ford one is less than 30 quid.
On a cold engine, pull the pipes off the old one and re attach them to the new one in the same sequence. You'll spill a dribble of petrol so rubber gloves are a nice idea. Pink marigolds work well.

By the pressure regulator I mean map sensor are these the same thing? What am I looking for?
I haven't been tuning, just had a service and they said it was faulty but wanted a fortune to replace it.
Cheers for the help.

Have a look, (sorry) search on the Citroen site for 'MAP' sensor. There's loads of info about what it is and where you are likley to find it. On you motor it's more than likley sat on the end of the inlet manifold. Held on by 2 screws on the drivers side. It'll have a couple of wires going in to it via a plug. Befor changing give it a clean first. By there very nature and where they are located they become contaminated with oil residue. Clean using brake cleaner NOT!! carb cleaner (too harsh). If you need a new one while you have it off note the part number and maker, possibly Magnet Marelli and give these guys a call
www.autoteknik.co.uk
If you aint got the part number get them the car chasis number, year reg etc,and you can even fax them a picky or ask for a picky to be faxed to you. They saved me loads on a new one. Hope this helps.

Forgot to add the MAP Sensor and pressure sensor are two differnt things. One regulates fuel pressure the other sends electronic signals to the ECU about load on the engine etc. Based on the vacume in the inlet manifold. Stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor (or there abouts)
