Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

whinning noise, help!

by Dave Burns » 06 Oct 2002, 16:11

Most likely causes are wheel bearing's, righthand driveshaft intermediate bearing or differential/gearbox bearing's.
A wheel bearing will often make more of a racket when turning in one direction than the other.

Xantia Suspension

When a sphere is worn out, the nitrogen has leaked away and you get no travel in the suspension - thus it is 'hard' you cannot push the corner of the car down. At a rough guess; how about using a bead of clear silicone sealant. I once used it for this purpose as it allows the membrane to peel off easy in the future if ever you need to remove it. What is the clutch like, if its heavy in operation or allready seen long service it may be wise to replace it at the same time, also check the crankshaft rear oil seal is still good.
Don't forget the front of the car needs to be high enough to allow the transmission to be removed from underneath.
The gearbox end of the engine has to be supported...

A few problems! (rad / suspension / water in fuel)

by NiSk » 01 Oct 2002, 19:37

1)Sorry to be a pessimist, but it sounds like your front spheres need regassing (or replacing) (again). If you can't bounce the front of the car up and down at least six inches then there's something wrong. Can you raise and lower the car without any trouble? (indicates that the front struts arn't sticking).
Check the hydraulic oil level - has it...

Ok - to say that I haven't got a 'danny larue' about cars in general would be an understatement - so please bear with me whilst I try to explain what is wrong.
Also, I really want to try to do any repairs myself...
- Car is Xantia 1.9TD SX/LX 1996 (130000 Miles)
- All spheres were replaced last year (beginning) so solve stiff suspension.

Throttle housing and stepper motor

by rickity » 05 Oct 2002, 05:25

First post

On a similar quest trying to sort out an intermittent cutout problem.
In reply to your question nothing should happen. the stepper motor will only do something if the load on the engine i.e. air conditioning cuts in, or lights get turned on (may be), changes or drops the idle speed, stepper motor will then bring it back to norm.
I think
Good luck

Hi Folks,
I'm not giving up! I'm on a quest to understand my fuel injection system (2.0i 16v, Motronic 5.1.1). The next question is this. I was tinkering with my car last night (beautiful weather) and decided to check whether the idle speed stepper motor contibutes to anything by unplugging it with an idling warm engine. I unplugged it expecting...

Little Puff!

by Thompatruck » 01 Oct 2002, 14:23

Not a general insult, but it aptly describes the problem!
On start up my ZX TD emits a single puff of smoke, I read in a previous discussion that this is likely to be due to an initial build up of fuel......any ideas how to stop this?
All help appreciated!

Extras?

by axamax » 01 Oct 2002, 05:52

Hi,
I'm about to buy 1988 BX14RE Leader. Does anyone know what the extra switch blanks on the centre console are for? Is wiring likely to be in place for relevant extras? Does anyone have a Wiring Diagram for this model? How much is it liable to cost to replace the timing belt? Can anyone recommend a mechanic in the Beds or Herts region. Thanx...

Has anybody ever had a Citroen converted to run on LPG? I have heard stories that some cars experience valve/head promlems after conversion and wondered whether Citroens fell into this category? There seems to be shedloads of late petrol Xantias around going for silly cheap money and I guess that buying one and having it converted would be an...

Tinted windows light transmittance

by JohnCKL » 30 Sep 2002, 23:59

Anyone knows how much the side windows of a Xantia 1.9TD 1996 are tinted to? What is the light transmittance cause I want to tint it further but must comply with state regulations. Is the front and back glass tinted at all? I stay in a very hot and sunny place. Too much sun in the tropics, get cooked without a good air con and good tint.

Citroen ZX - removing the stereo. HOW?!?

by Dave1 » 01 Oct 2002, 00:44

I believe you just need to remove the two rubber gromits facing you and use a screwdriver on the two screws. Once the two screws are out you should be able to pull the unit forward and out!

Can anyone tell me how to remove the standard stereo/radio from the Citroen ZX. The one with the plastic flap.

Battery voltage?

by gjb02 » 30 Sep 2002, 21:53

First post

What they may have meant is the Battery was connected in reverse, effectively making the car positive earth. It would have meant most of the voltage critical items would have had current running through them in reverse. Most earthing circuits within components have diodes to prevent the reverse flow of current/voltage through them during normal...

Last post

The car I just bought has recently had a new battery, alternator and starter.
I was told that the battery voltage reversed and damaged these components, it also seems to have blown any fuses to the stereo and taken out the stereo head unit.
Has anyone heard of reversing batteries before? I haven't!
Thanks

what engine in xantia??? it sounds like a clutch problem to make pedal stiff (could be lucky could be cable) brakes need checking one thing you can be sure withxantia brakes working properly they are instant without much pressure (could be air in system).

abs light

by alan s » 30 Sep 2002, 04:23

There have been quite a few threads on ABS in particular Xantia ABS so if you go to search and put either ABS or Brakes in I think you'd get plenty of advice to read on this subject.
To me, it sounds more like something not telling the ECU that it's supposed to be working rather than it not working! I'd personally begin bt removing the road wheels...

Tyres Original Size

by jemboyd » 29 Sep 2002, 17:05

First post

Read your manual's 'tyres' section - it will tell you what you want to know.

Last post

Having bought my 1996 Xantia 1.9TD recently with tyre sizes of 195/50/15, I was wondering what the original tyre sizes were? The sticker on the side of door indicates 185/65/15 but the manual says 195/55/15 for 1.9TD. Which is the correct original size? Thanks.

I have had this problem. The only thing that worked for me was replacing the drivers side door lock. It's a bit tricky as the adapter is different from the original. You will need to splice the new wiring into the existing loom. Xantia 1993 TD SX still going strong 140K miles
