Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Brake binding

That doesn't sound like they are binding badly. Disk brakes always rub a little because there is nothing to phsically push the pads away from the disk (unlike drum brakes).
Try removing the pads and pushing the pistons back a little see if that improves things. If one is stuck then you should notice it.
Keep one pad in place while you push the...

HArd Rear Suspension- Fault

by alan s » 04 Mar 2003, 05:38

Sounds like a couple of flat rear spheres although swing arm bearings can also cause the ride to stiffen up but not to the extent the spheres will.
When it goes up & down, does it do it in a fairly smooth even fashion and are the wheels straight? (perpendicular)
I'd be fairly confiden the new spheres will cure it.

Replacing Xantia Rear Discs & Pads????

by mbunting » 04 Mar 2003, 02:30

You'll need to remove the caliper to get the disc off. The bolt holding the caliper together ( through the pads ) can seize, so a liberal use of WD40 the day before ( careful not to get on the disc / pads ) can help.
May be worth getting a caliper seal and replace it if you split the caliper ( I did deliberately on both ) approx 70p from dealer....

Hi Mark
Your car should not sink appreciably unless it is left standing for a very long time (eg weeks). The systems differ slightly between very early cars (pre mid 1994) and later ones such as your own. The later cars have an additional suspension sphere between the rear wheels called an antisink sphere, its purpose being rather obvious by its...

2 weeks into my ownership of a 1997 R plate TDLX Temptation with 69,000 miles and full service history. a handful of questions.
Is my vintage meant to lower itself on switching off by much. Rear lowers a modest amount and front a fraction. Some early models almost sit on the ground seemingly?
Looking under the bonnet the 2 front spheres both have...

Oil in the intercooler ?

by Dave Burns » 28 Feb 2003, 03:13

First post

Some also comes from the turbo its self, the bearings in it are hydrodynamic like those of the crank and camshaft and so needs a pressurised supply of oil.
I think it would be unrealistic to expect an oil seal to seal the shaft totaly at such harsh operating temperatures and high speed.
Plus when the oil pressure to support the spinning shaft is...

It sounds like spheres. When they go the ride firms up. I very much doubt over inflating the tyres did it.
The front ones are pretty easy to do yourself and the most likely to have gome.
You might be better off finding a local independant Citroen specialist, if it is the fronts there isn't much labour involved and they should be able to get the...

Hi
I have an M Reg 1.9TD.
I recently changed the brake pads & unknowingly over-inflated the tyres.
It now is a nightmare to drive -any bump or indentation makes it bounce all over the place -its very, very scary ( I drive 40 miles to work every day). There is also a clanking noise from front drivers side which is a recent development
Is this just a...

Xantia Vibration

by JohnW » 27 Feb 2003, 22:26

First post

Did you actually SEE them doing the wheel balance?
One thing that comes to my mind is the possibility of a wheel being buckled and the balance job not able to counteract the wheel not being straight and round. If you watch the wheels spinning on the wheel balance machine (taken off the car, not balanced while on the car) you may get an answer....

My car start to vibrate when hitting over 100km/h. I have changed both drive shaft, center bearing, engine mounting, lower arm bush. I also have done wheel balancing twice but the vibration still persist.
Anything else that I should look at??

Battery light

by RichardW » 27 Feb 2003, 20:48

First post

Never see mine coast down, as it's a diesel, and when you switch off it stops dead
But, I think the light is powered up and earths through the alternator, then when the alternator is running it puts +12V to the light which then has +12 on both sides so goes out.
I have heard of others putting LEDs in BX's, and not heard of the charge light...

Last post

Anyone know how the battery/alternator warning light 'dumps' the coastdown current from the alternator when you switch the ignition off? - Watch the warning light when you switch off, you'll see what I mean - you can even see the pulses, so could be from the trio/field diodes.
According to my Haynes book of lies & my multimeter, there's no earth...

ZX mystery leak

It's lunch time....at the moment!
Gearbox oil (should) stink to high heaven, so probably not that.
Could be PAS or brake fluid - I'd get it looked at ASAP as you don't want no brakes. If you run out of fluid the PAS will just go heavy - control will not be affected (although if you go through a time of on-off power steering it makes things...

I have a new problem. On Weds morning, when I reversed out of the garage, I noticed an interesting puddle. When I parked up last night, I placed a clean bit of cardboard underneath the car to get a closer look.

ACTIVA NOT SITTING LEVEL

by RichardW » 27 Feb 2003, 18:07

First post

Standard suspension only levels up and down on an individual axle. Only Activa has ability to level left to right. Drooping at one side suggests a problem with one of the activa rams, possibly wear in a bush at the top or bottom, or internal leakage higher on one side than the other? Activa is somewhat of a 'black art'!!
Unlocking of car will...

Last post

Hi,
I'm not at all familiar (yet) with the Xantia self levelling system in general, or the Activa anti-roll circuit in particular.
Just lately, when the car is stationary, with the engine off, the car is level front to rear, but leans slightly to one side.
Does the standard Xantia suspension self level in all directions, or does this particular...

Brake Doseur Valve Replacement

by alexx » 26 Feb 2003, 15:44

First post

You must lower the car to the lowest position, to depressurize rear suspension (it's pressure supply for rear brake circuit), and depressurize the system at the regulator, loosening the screw by about 1 turn. I think pumping the brakes several times after that is not necessary, but it wouldn't do any harm.
On BX, brake pedal directly acts to...

Having been quoted silly money to get this changed by a Citroen specialist, I am going to get one of the mechanics at work to do it. I too thought this a bit odd, I'd...

Diesel timing

by Dave Burns » 26 Feb 2003, 05:38

First post

No such timing marks on these engines, where would you get the signal from to fire the strobe, unless you have access to a timing light that can pick up the injection pulse through the pipe wall, they exist but AFAIK they are very expensive.
The usual method is static timing using a dial test indicator and piston travel adapter fixed to the pump,...

That does sound like a balance problem. Is the vibration felt through your steering wheel or for the want of better description your bum. Ouch! I wonder if the caliper has become dislodged? You would almost certainly have heard/felt that much slop in a wheel bearing. Another explanation is that you picked up a stone or a piece of metal that became caught between the wheel and the caliper.

Xantia Alarm / CODED card

by blueboy2001 » 25 Feb 2003, 04:53

Don't worry about it mate, the card simply holds a passcode under the scratch off panel to allow access to the immobilser parameters on the dealership computer. Its only ever used when the immobiliser goes belly up or you need keys adding or deleting.
